Iron Man 2 The Official Whiplash Thread

To win the Oscar, Paltrow beat out Meryl Streep, Cate Blanchett, Fernanda Montenegro and Emily Watson.

Yeah, that really sounds like a "down year." Paltrow should be ashamed of winning. :whatever:

Yeah, but what makes them so special??? You mean, like awards and stuff??? Heh... how does 2 oscars, a Cannes, a couple of Emmys, a half-dozen Golden Globes, a SAG, and a host of others and million of nominations make Streep accomplished. Big deal that Paltrow beat Meryl Streep... com'on, get real.

And Cate Blanchett??? Are you kidding??? She only has an Oscar a couple of Golden Globes, and a couple of SAGs... and another 55 wins. GET REAL!!!

Yeah, what was I thinking? :hehe:

That said... Rourke's Marv in Sin City was the bomb... "...he's out there somewhere, out of sight, the big missing piece that'll give me the how and the why and a face and a name and a soul to send screaming into hell."

"Beefin up the ol' home security huh"
"You bet ur ass"

Mickey Rourke will be on Tavis Smiley PBS show tonight... he may talk about up coming projects.

He's more likely to talk about The Wrestler

Or talk to Chris Jericho :D

On a tangent, but I think the objection to describing Paltrow as "more accomplished" is that description is only based on one criteria, awards won. Number of roles (leading or otherwise), critical acclaim (historical and current), a current evaluation of their body of work, box office success, or even size of paychecks are other measures that may result in a different conclusion.

At a certain level, Downey Jr., Paltrow, Rourke, Cheadle, and even Favreau are all "accomplished actors".

He appeared last night, instead of the night before, for some reason... maybe schedule change. Anyway, all he did was reflect on his life, being out of Hollywood, and how his life paralleled his character in the Wrestler.

He was very open and honest; and told a very compelling story.

Rourke sounds optimistic.

LOS ANGELES, Jan 30 — Mickey Rourke is convinced he’ll lose out as Best Actor to Sean Penn at the 81st Academy Awards — and he doesn’t mind.

The actor, who’s been generating raves via his comeback role in “The Wrestler,” feels that Penn'’s portrayal of California’s first openly gay elected official, Harvey Milk, in “Milk” was, “brilliant, remarkable”.

Besides, says Rourke, “If I don’t win an Oscar this year, I will next year or the year after that.”

He has solid reason for such confidence.

“You’ll be seeing me in a lot of things — thanks to ‘The Wrestler,’ thanks to therapy and thanks to my behaving myself for the last 10 years,” says the man who, after finding big time stardom in the ‘80s, fell from the limelight after earning a reputation for being difficult to work with and making a series of disastrous career moves.

He reveals, “A sequel to ‘Iron Man’ is coming together, with Robert Downey reprising his role and me playing the villain.

“Also, there’s ‘13’, a wonderful film I made for French director Gela Babluani that’s soon due for release. I made it after ‘The Wrestler’, when I was worried what and if anything would be next for me, and it turned out to be a test that I could be consistent — which hasn’t been my forte.”

He adds that among the other projects that have suddenly caught fire thanks to “The Wrestler” is “Wild Horses” for director Walter Hill, which Rourke wrote 18 years ago.

“Life is good,” says the actor. “I’ve come to peace with anger and issues from long ago. I don’t go to therapy four times a week, like I did for several years when I really needed to, but I still talk to the therapist twice a week from wherever I’m at. I don’t want to label myself a victim, but now I can understand the armour I wore for so long was hiding issues of abandonment and shame. I was a proud man, and pride and honour can bite you in the ass.”

Rourke has already decided who’ll be beside him when he struts down the red carpet at The Academy Awards. He reveals it won’t be one of the women in his life. It will be, he says, “The man responsible for my enjoying the good times now — David Unger, the young agent at ICM who put his career on the line for me. For seven years he fought to revive the train wreck that was my career. Believe me, he risked a lot.”

Well, there you have it. It sounds like he is doing it.

If he winds the Oscar then marvel just got themselves a very good deal.

Even if he doesn't win, they got a heck of a deal for a nominated actor, especially one of his caliber.

I can only hope that Rourke is able to find his 'Double Team' form.................

:D

If he's game to do it, maybe the naysayers really need to chill out and know their roles as the Rock says. If you know the Rock, you know what he says after that.

Cool interviews. I really have faith in him with this film. I mean, he did such an amazing job in The Wreslter, Sin City, etc. As i have said, I just really think he'll pull this off greatly.

Rourke as gimp mask Whiplash would rock.

Who would not want to see Rourke in the gimp mask?

I'd rather see C Dynamo. He could play that so much better.

Definitely sounds like he's Whiplash for at least some of the film's running time, since he denied the CD thing but didn't deny Whiplash

Maybe it's TM? That would actually be more comic accurate(not that that's my bible or anything) since CD was never really so much of a bruiser outside the armor unlike the 1st TM.
