Iron Man 2 The Official Whiplash Thread

The Spider-Man 3 Mega blocks toys included a scene with Hydroman if I remember correctly, back in the old "4th villain" days.

True i remember that.. i just hope that the whiplash robot isn't in the movie.. because it would be to similar to the first movies villain and i though that was the reason why their using Whiplash

As much as I get the ED-209 references, It would be cool if this was a nod to Justin Hammers 'Adap-tor' creation, as seen in Iron Man #217.

http://www.marvunapp.com/Appendix/adaptor.htm

I'm looking at the wings on top of that toy (yeah, yeah, I know the Adaptor was actually a helicoptor, and therefore had rotor blades instead) and the center 'cockpit' and mech legs, and I'm wondering if that's were the inspiration kind of came from.

^^ And sort of a nod to Rhodes as well. But instead of being the user of that thing, he ends up just being the leader of Hammer's drone army. They will still have Rhodes working with Hammer for a moment of time.

I'm hoping for the "ED-209" armor, actually. It's a great way to detach from Iron Monger, keep showing Mickey Rourke's emotions and have him battle Iron Man and War Machine with advantage. Good call, Favs. :woot:

Why so many gdamn colors?!?...I don't think I like that...gotta sell toys tho.
Not rushin to judge.

Market research shows that kid's like toy's in a variety of garish colours, I guess.

I'm hip...and I'm a child of the 80's, that **** started w/ us.
I felt ALL the TMNT should have wore red. I remember when the Empire Strikes Back line came out, I was a little but the whole scheme of the line was either White/Grey for Hoth or Black.

Garish is right. I'm not the target audience tho.

I know people love the original TMNT comics and I've got a newfound respect for them... but I do think the best thing that the cartoon did was the multiple colors.

Honestly, all red would not work because Joe Public wouldn't know who' who. Correct me if I'm wrong, in order to know who's saying what, they had to address their names constantly and show their weapons clearly in the panel.

And the funny thing is that the comics were black and white, so them being all red is irrelevant.

I really Whiplash works as a character. Maybe it's the cynic in me, but when the trailer came out for Iron Man 2, some people were like "OMG, Mickey Rourke looks so scary". And I was like..hmmm.

I love Rourke and I love Favs' work on Iron Man. I'm still on the fence.

(Comes in Vile One's love for Whiplash's gimp mask)

Yea..it's really wasn't about the colors, if that makes any sense. I only said 'red' cause on the covers or anytime Eastman put color to them graphically he used red, in fact the one thing the toys did have was different hue's of green for everybody. Don was darker, Raph was a brighter.

and yea in the origianl B&W they spoke differently which is how you got to know them, their personalities, and when they fought the weapons came out and then you got confirmation. I want to say there were small differences in there faces at one time.

By and large kids are quick, I think it was largely for visual appeal, Kids dig colors and identifiaction was secondary...or both.

I think the ED 209 lookalike mech is just an attempt to make the racetrack battle into a play set. Plus, I can't see Favreau putting Whiplash in something like that. So I don't think it'll be in the film.

I also hope that's not what Whiplash will be in at the end of the film but I have a feeling it will be.

If you look at the past, there have been numerous films that have had toys come out that turned out to be fairly accurate.

Two examples. G.I. Joe, people were saying that it was just for the toy that Cobra Commander would have that squid like mask which he ended up getting near the end of the film. Xmen Origins: Wolverine, same thing in regards to Deadpool. People saw the figure with the glowing eyes, sewn up mouth and Baraka blades and sat there in disbelief.

I won't believe in that toy design 100% but I'm leaning in the direction that there's a good chance it will be in the film.

Exactly. If there is a Whiplash "final" suit, we would have at least seen a glimpse of it in the first trailer. We saw glimpses of Iron Monger from the first one in the first trailer. I don't know why they would hold back now, as it isn't like he is a classic villain like Joker that can be sold on name alone. Let's face it, ED209 IS the final suit.

c'mon guys, they toys have all sorts of **** we never see in the movies. I think they even made a car for Iron Man when the first movie came out. I think Mattel also did the same **** for Dark Knight. Not to mention, the regular toys for Dark Knight were freaking awful and terrible beyond all belief.

Anyone who seriously thinks that toy will appear in the movie is an idiot. I dont mean to be blunt, but lets be serious here.

You guys remember Spidey and his jetski from the movies? Yeah, me too.

Spider-Man riding on his raptor was my favorite part of Spider-Man 3. :awesome:

Wannn AV bet?

I wonder, even though it would only seem right since they've incorporated CD elements into Whiplash, if his final suit wont be crimson red out of concern that having Iron Man fight a guy in red colored armor would make the battle scenes hard to follow?

I'm betting on it being just silver with maybe some crimson decals.

The way I see it, whiplash attacks Tony at the race track, tony fends him off with the Mark V, WL gets captured, tony sees him in prison, WL does the "you come from a family of thieves and butchers" thing, Hammer bails him out, give him some upgraded armor from the blue prints, final showdown.

...Now watch me be totally wrong. lol.

I hope it plays out something like that.

Especially WL getting upgrades from Hammer.
