Iron Man 2 The Official Whiplash Thread

Even though Whiplash's battle was very short, I still liked it much, much better than the first one's final battle. Because of both the drones being part of the final fight and the way the battle was handled. The first one was too slow paced and didn't have much intensity. They just kind of whapped each other around (which is what the Mk IV vs Mk II fight was like, but that one had more aggression and feeling to it, along with Queen in the background, so it was a jillion times more fun for me personally), it's pretty one-sided, then Stark isn't even the one to beat him.

Ultimately both villains were beaten with a blast, but I found IM2's more interesting and cool. I think I'd like for Stark to beat Mandarin single-handedly. Between the first two and the Avengers, Iron Man will have needed help from all his buddies in defeating the big boss. Let's see him reach full potential and win one himself for a change of pace.

I would like a finale battle regarding Mandarin where Tony has to use the Mark I armor. They can go the 90s animated series route where technology doesn't work around Mandarin and so Stark has to rely on his very first suit of armor. That idea was also used in the Invincible Iron Man animated movie.

^^ Exactly. People are forgetting that Iron Man was "battling" Ivan Vanko when he was controlling the drones and even War Machine. Just because Whiplash was only there at the end for one-two minutes, doesn't mean that's all Vanko's final battle consisted of.

As a whole, it was a very epic battle. Ivan Vanko was controlling like forty drones and War Machine to kill Tony, destroy the Expo and even kill off everyone at the sight, and when Tony was getting lucky with killing off the drones, Whiplash then came in and would've killed Tony without Rhodey's involvement. All in all, it was a great finale, imo. Whiplash had a short time in his Mark II armor, but he did destroy Tony's armor pretty good. So, let's look at the fact: Whiplash Mark I almost defeated Iron Man in his Mark V armor. And Whiplash Mark II almost defeated Iron Man in his Mark VI armor. The only way Iron Man won was with the help of War Machine with using the duel repulsor rays. If Iron Man did that plan himself, he would've died.

Exactly. I consider the entire drone battle to Whiplash Mark II as one complete 'final battle'...when you think of it like that, it wasn't short. In fact it was one of the longest final battles ever in a CBM.

And I also agree that Tony and Rhodey were struggling to bring him down which is why I didn't mind the actual confrontation with Vanko being reletively short...they had just gone through hell with those drones and basically were running out of gas, fast.

Okay, what the hell was up with Vanko's legs as he was getting pulled away from the race track? One looked gone while the other looked shrunken and rubbery.

Better question. How did he survive a car going at least 60 mph smashing into his legs and pinning him against a wall?

The Whiplash fight was like the Iron Monger fight if it ended with the "icing" in the upper atmosphere (and I did think it had ended there when I first saw IM1).

I saw a concept art photo and Whiplash had exoskeleton around his legs too. It wasnt obvious in the movie, but its possible that he does have one under his pants and that's why he survived. But i think that the fence on which he was pinned was pretty flexible. Anyway, its a comic book movie.

mind sharing?

Thinking back to the fight with him at the end whiplash looked really good and the whips were visually really well done. When I first thought about him as a villain it sounds dumb and you think what challenge could he give iron man. In the film though they handled it really well with Vanko grabbing him from flying away and swating his hands down. I think thats why I'm a little disappointed because I would have really liked to have seen more of it. Obviously the final battle was basically Vanko's doing but I would have rather had a few less drone scenes in favour of more whiplash because I'm sure thats what it comes down too, cost.

Using Warmachine and using the drones to kill Tony was not just a basic attack. there was purpose behind it. He wanted to show Tony he was smarter than him. And when that failed, he was probably already in rage, knowing he was bested so he went in without even really thinking. He just knew he wanted to beat him anyway possible now.

yeah, bad idea to rush into a fight angry, kinda tends to end badly, unless your wolverine, cuz he rushes into everything angry :p

Haw haw haw, you lose Stark, you lose!

A vont my burd...MY BURD.

Legend.

hey whatup every1 im new i gotta say mickey was the best villian ever i just wish he survived

as much as I liked Mickey Rourke in the role, he didn't leave much of an impression to me. maybe because he gets lost in the mix in Act II

just saw the scene where people thought he had an amputated leg/half his leg came off when he was dragged away from the race track. He was wearing black socks and his boot slid off LOL. His legs are still intact.

I saw that "missing leg" part too and I had to do a rewind on that a few times to see it was just a illusion.

As far as why Whiplash just stood there and didn't do anything while War Machine and Iron Man prepared to beat him. Whiplash had no choice, he had both adversaries where he wanted them, in his whips but they didn't do enough damage fast enough. What could he have done in those 15 seconds it took for them to come up with a plan? He had both of them in the whips and his arms are his weapons so he could of either let them go or kept squeezing them to death with the whips. So he really had no choice but to take whatever they were about the throw at him. What was bothersome was that he kept recoiling the mask while he was fighting and had it recoiled when the final blast knocked him out. I guess it's just like the Spiderman movies where they don't pay good actors to only see the mask...

are people dumb? i mean, i noticed it too but I never thought legitimately "Well, he just lost a leg!"

FYI.....Ivan didn't have an on screen death.

Just sayin'! :D :funny:

this.

unless i see them die onscreen theyre not dead until proven so.

but i really did like Whiplash, he was such a bad ass villian and wished he wouldve fought them longer.

Of all the many possible things to complain about in IM 2 ... why is this an issue?

Faceless robots fighting? It should be quick and to the point. Why would these fights need to last a long time? What does the viewer get out of that experience by seeing them fight simply longer? I want a quick, brutal and to the point fight. More believable.

In actuality they become a bit redundant and boring the longer you drag them out.

becuase a short fight can be anticlimactic, you wait all movie for the final fight, and it lasts two minutes? id be disapointed too if i didnt see the whole final fight regardless of participatns as one big finale
