Iron Man 2 The Official Whiplash Thread

Glad to see the deal is done. Seeing Downey and Rourke facing off as the leads in a big budget sequel, just a few years ago I don't know how many would have believed that could ever happen seeing where both of them where in their careers.

Yeah i know its a great story to see both of them back on top of there lives and having the huge amount of success they have bothm been getting latley

I have to say I never thought Whiplash would actualy be in an Iron Man movie as a competent baddie. I assumed henchman or not at all. This news prob gives hope to Blizzard fans

if the Whiplash concept art for the new, Armored Adventures, cartoon, is any indication of what we might see (doubtful, but, still, interesting) I could see him as a full baddie, not just a henchman

though, few villains start out as henchmen, in there first few appearances they are always more of a challenge to the hero, but, over time the hero learns their weaknesses and they become easily beaten, which is why we think about Whiplash as being just a henchman type, now

I think the up side too having a less villain like him is that we might see numerous smaller fights throughout the movie, instead of like with Iron Monger, where it all just built up to one big fight at the end (which is probably what we would of gotten again with, Crimson Dynamo)

Very true.The genius behind the idea of combining elements of Crimson Dynamo and Whiplash is that whiplash brings the variety to the table. The whips and all that make it a different threat than just another guy in a rip-off suit. The fights would be different compared to film 1. But the Crimson Dynamo elements help allow greater variety because lets be fair whiplash was always damn lucky that he gott anywhere fighting IM in the comics. If IM had got truly miffed and rocketed at him at full speed then he would be just a smear on the wall. By throwing in the Crimson Dynamo elements you make so Whiplash can actually fight IM without getting broken in half by IM`s first punch.

It`s also good to note that from what we are hearing the villain is going to essentially be Whiplash with minor elements of Crimson Dynamo. So its not like a total fudge of the two characters like Hulk`s dad/absorbing man in Hulk. It will be mainly whiplash so there is still a possibnility of an actual dynamo appearance one day. Letys be fair though for the most part crimson dynamo was to IM what carnage, toxin or anti-venom are to spider-man. Generic popular villain who has abilities similar to hero with different color scheme to distinguish him from the dozens of other villains with the smae shtick. lol.

I dunno if Rourke will actually do a Russian accent but there is a movie that Rourke has done where he does an Irish accent. Here is a clip.

I'm Irish and that is terrible, absolutely terrible, dont know what part of Ireland, Scotland, London Austrialia or the States that accent is suppossed to be from. He gets the odd word right but the accent jumps far too much. The only American Actor I have ever heard carry a decent Irish accent was Aidan Quinn when he played Harry Bolland in Michael Collins.

I'm happy to see the cast coming together. I hope we get the gimp mask costume for Whiplash/Rourke if he's playing Whiplash.

Hope this is a good role for Rourke and the movie. I'm assuming Rourke's character will be more of the muscle for Sam Rockwell's character.

That we don't know exactly who Rourke is playing kind of reminds me when Church and Grace were cast in Spider-man 3 and people were constantly debating who they were going to play.

I dunno, I really like that design from the animated series. A show that, otherwise, looks utterly crap, might I add.

This is all complete speculation, but if they go the Russian arms dealer route, I would imagine that he is a particularly nasty fella burned by Stark cutting all ties to the arms industry. And so he gets into bed with Justin Hammer.

You only need to go back to the first IM when Bridges was announced as being cast but his character's name had not been revealed. Then we had people like Advanced Dark theorizing that he could be the Mandarin.

I'm glad that Rourke is cast as Whiplash, but they will need to have an overhaul of this villain's appearance for the movie, because in the comics he looks very lame and crappy. I hope he'll have a power suit that can go toe-to-toe against Stark's IM armor, and maybe have his gauntlets have the ability to spring out electric whips for melee fights. That could be cool visually instead of him holding a giant whip like he's Indy wannabe.

Plus, it gives marvel exposure for this c-list villian whose sitting on their back burner.
