Iron Man 2 The Official Whiplash Thread

And there's no way Ivan is building his suit in prison.

Agreed. I think it's after he escapes/gets let out. No way in hell would no one not notice that unless the prison he was in had very few guards.

"You come from a family of thieves and butchers and now, like all guilty men, you try to rewrite your own history. *Impossible to understand*. For soon there will be blood in the water. And the sharks will come."

"You forget all the lives the Stark family has destroyed."

I think it's more the poor audio and the fact that he's talking in a low voice that makes him hard to understand.

As I said, ADR in post production is a very useful thing for this kinda problem. ADR to the rescue!

I'm sure the actual audio sounds fine. He just can't be understood in the bootleg.

Whatever Howard Stark did to Anton Vanko, he did on the Stark Expo in 1974.

Excuse me if this has been asked and answered a million times, but does anyone know what Ivan's tattoos signify? One of them in a manip looks like a giant ship.

^Probably something like Russian prison and/or mafia tats.

Sam Rockwell Promises 'Iron Man 2' Team-Up For Justin Hammer And Whiplash

There's no shortage of nemeses for Tony Stark to wrestle with when "Iron Man 2" hits theaters next year -- and while Sam Rockwell's war profiteering villain Justin Hammer isn't as physically threatening as some of the film's other bad guys, he shouldn't be considered any less dangerous.

Speaking with MTV News about his character in the Jon Favreau-directed film, Rockwell confirmed what has long been assumed but has yet to be discussed at length—that the nefarious Hammer will not only share scenes with Mickey Rourke's Whiplash character, but they'll actually join forces against Iron Man himself.

"The closest I can come to [describing our characters' relationship] is maybe Gene Wilder and Peter Boyle in 'Young Frankenstein,' or Abbott and Costello," Rockwell half-kiddingly explained. "I'm sort of a fast-talking arms dealer and Mickey's a weapons maker, so he's a very dangerous man—he's been in the joint. And I've got the money. So we team up together to get [Stark]."

Reports of Rourke's vengeance quest against Robert Downey Jr.'s character have circulated since descriptions of the Comic-Con footage leaked; Whiplash clearly has his own personal reasons for going after Stark. As for Hammer, perhaps it's more of a business decision—making him even deadlier, possibly.

At this point, Hammer's motivations are up for debate, and Rockwell himself admitted that he's taken liberties with the character that diverge from his comic book counterpart.

"We're kind of reinventing the character of Justin Hammer a little bit," he said. "I walked into a lot of comic book shops and even some comic book store owners didn't know who he was. So, it's not as much pressure as playing Iron Man obviously, that's like playing Elvis Presley or something. With Justin Hammer is a little more elbow room for interpretation."

Well I hope it's similar.

He does look cool.

Hope they do that to his other out dated rouges gallery.

i agree besides the exposed nature its a good looking suit
i just read from one the guys working on the game that crimson dynamo isnt in the movie which is knida dissapointing considering rourke is a combo of whiplash/crimson dynamo so there really wasnt a point to the ivan vanko deal..but we'll see

Heres are the pics shown in the article.

Interesting. Its a very cool design yet it lacks a lot of practicality, especially if he is going against Tony who has a full covering prosthetic.

Not even sure it will be similar to its movie counterpart. Maybe it'll be completely different.

craigdbfan,
It's different. Those images are from the comic mini-series called Iron Man vs. Whiplash. It has nothing to do with movie. And the new Whiplash's name is Anton Vanko, not IVAN Vanko like in the movie. But his motives are the same, as the movie counterpart's.

Though, in Marvel we already have Anton Vanko (the first Crimson Dynamo). Will this Anton have connections to the original Vanko - remains to be seen.

Regarding the exposed skin. It could be possible that the whips are used to defended/deflect the attacks from Iron Man.

I like the design of the new Whiplash's costume. Very cool upgrade + better, that the "Comediant" version Whiplash from IM v3))

I'd say it's more likely that the exposed parts are just there on the comic version, while the movie version would be head-to-toe covered like that suit. Other than that, I'd say that's by far Whiplash's best look to date in the comics.

Exposed skin parts in the comics rarely mean anything.

Mandarin's costume at one point consisted of only his rings, cape and a thing that draped down to cover his junk.
