I just don't understand why they don't just grab Morrison, Snyder, Johns, Waid, etc, stick em in a room and let them brainstorm, or let them have a read of the script to give feedback.

Because studios have no reason to give comic book writers a play at a cinematic game. It's a different playing field.

It's always more suited to get someone familiar with actual screenwriting. The knowledge in source material is taken care of within a matter of weeks/months of researching. Not the case when transitioning from writing 25 page scripts for a monthly, to writing a 120 page screenplay for a hundred million dollar tentpole.

I don't know. Godzilla had a revolving door of writers, now that I think about it.

And Goyer was one of them. Hell, Frank Darabont joined Godzilla for a time based off of Goyer's contributions.

I'm sure they'll do it for free because they love these characters so much.

I wonder this about most CBMs.

Because they don't have the stones to challenge the iconography of the character. Moreover, I get that they're beloved comic book writers/artists, but screenwriting is a whole new ball game.

You want a reason not to have comic guys involved in film? FRANK MILLER'S THE SPIRIT.

If nothing else, that film poisoned the well on comic book creators having a free hand in making CBMs.

Grant Morrison has actually written a few movie scripts that got made into movies.

If BvS is any good in the writing department then I would hope they would at least bring Terrio back.

I'm pretty excited for Snyder. For solo-Avenger movies, I'm not so much for one of those directors being chosen to direct any Avengers films, like we've had Iron Man directed by Jon Faverou, Captain America directed by Joe Johnston, Thor directed by I forget his name, Gilderoy Lockhart, and Hulk by Louis Letterier, and the question was who would direct The Avengers movie?

Zack Snyder is such a legendary director, however I was disapointed how he chose to direct Man of Steel "hand-held" style, I mean Watchmen was a team of superheroes, the direction was so epic and done in amazing style, but I'm worried Justice League will not look to much like that.

Seriously, up till Man of Steel, the way he directed it, before then, he was on the list of the Watchowski brothers, whom also may have been a great choice for Justice League.

Justice League needs to be big and super. Hand-held will not suit it.

LMAO, what?

I think Gu3ree really has something against hand-held filming.

I think he's ultimately saying he doesn't want Snyder or any solo movie director to do the team movie.

But then he calls Snyder a "legendary" director. Which is laughable in a variety of ways.

I'm so excited for this! SvB building directly into JL is a great idea, hopefully it ends on a cliffhanger.

I guess it's never too soon to speculate on potential JL villians.

Thoughts?

I think they go for Darkseid right away to beat Marvel to the punch being that he is so similar to Thanos.

I think they go with Darkseid too. But i dunno if that'd be a good idea. Marvel is sowing the seeds, treating Thanos like the Emperor in Star Wars. He'll appear in GotG and i imagine the next "phase" of Marvel films. They're slowly revealing him to be the puppet master behind the scenes of a lot of things.

Pulling Darkseid out of nowhere might make general audiences go "who the hell?" I don't think Darkseid's threat and overall character can be done justice in one film that will be filled to the brim with characters anyway.

I'd prefer Doomsday for JL. Doesn't really require much characterisation. He's more of a force of nature and i can see the JL having to form to combat him after he seemingly takes Superman out. Supermans supposed death being the catalyst for them all to join forces, perhaps?

My druthers for JL film villains are:

1. White Martians under the control of Starro.

2. CSA

3. Appelaxians with the White Martians

As cool as Darkseid is... Leave him for later.

I agree, but I'm already cringing at the comparisons to Thanos and the complaining online from hardcore fans as well as the GA.

To be fair the two villians are strikingly similar so I'm curious as to how they're going to address that moving forward. Maybe a radical redesign?

They are similar on the surface sure. That's why we need Darkseid built up to distinguish him from Thanos. They have totally different personalities and motives etc.

But we'll soon see. It's an exciting time to be a comic book fan.

Darkseid being a worshipped deity on his world and his inner circle should help to define him in context against Thanos.

Oh for sure. We need to see Apokalips and everything first i think.

I mean beyond looking similar and having kinda similar powers, Thanos and Darkseid are completely different.

One is a maniacal nihilist who literally worships the concept of death as a lover.

One is a God who wishes to enslave all life under his heel and destroy all free will to create order.

Potentially. If Apokolips is anything like Oa then no thanks but seeing as Snyder is involved I'm not too worried in that department. The little we got of Krypton was better than any of the Oa we saw in Green Toilet.

Snyder's world-building is pretty top tier.

His alternate universe 1980's America in Watchmen & the small taste of Krypton we got >
