Utd 3-0 from a pen and that should be it now. Running home from work now so won't see the rest (but can listen to the audio). Congrats to all our Utd fans here!!

Although Chelsea could/should have scored a few themselves, we could have scored 8 or 9 there tonight between the post, crossbar & the goalkeeper.

Job done none the less, CL & top 4 confirmed, I'd rest every single starter against Fulham on the final day so they're fresh for the FA Cup Final & hope it makes a difference.. although I'm sure City will do the same.

Nice to get the job done tonight and not have to have a final day sweat for no reason. Actually took Chelsea apart at times and took our chances when they came, Chelsea could and perhaps shold have had more but at least we out gunned them today when it mattered, they are a mess at the moment but probably will be much stronger next season so it was good to get the result like we did.

A trophy and top 4 is a great first season for ETH considering how it started so you have to take that. Its a shame the sale is dragging on and not looking like getting resolved soon but otherwise its been a decent season and ends on a high rather than a low. City will likely stuff us on the way to the treble but we are some way of their level like everyone else at the moment so not going to get too worked about it, we have somehow managed to pull some things out of the fire this season and that has mostly got to do with ETH you have to say, he's made this team more than the some of its parts at the moment.

My only worry is if we will get the recruitment right this summer and kick on or leave him hamstrung again, we shall see over the summer with that I guess, could be a lot going on at OT this summer, even more than usual. Curious times ahead but at least with CL football next season.

Our recruitment I'd imagine will largely depend on this potential takeover which is why it need somewhat straightened out, ideally before the window opens because it's likely the Glazers would take the same stance as they supposedly did in January & basically refuse to release funds despite the fact we were in bad need of a striker after Ronaldo's departure.. fortunately Rashford's form papered over that crack somewhat but it will need addressing.

All in all this has been a positive season, despite the hammerings from City & Liverpool, as well as a few others, it does feel like progress has been made.

However if we were to sign nobody, or only a couple of freebies, that progress can quickly be erased. I really, really, really want us to sign a deep-lying playmaker. Somebody that will accept the ball under pressure themselves, from teammates who are also under pressure. Obviously with the ability to manoeuvre themselves out of trouble or have the awareness to play 1 pass to a free teammate that clears the initial press as it seems like everyone & their mother thinks they're a high pressing team now.

Also a striker, preferably someone proven with a couple of 20+ goal seasons under their belt & ideally, in their mid-twenties.

Great first season for ETH recovering from Ole’s mess and getting top 4, a trophy and another final. CL should make the much-needed recruitment easier too.

Bundesliga finishes on Sat and there's a real chance Dortmund could end Bayern's decade of domination and win the title. Just hope they can see it over the line. The 2 clubs are facing similar level teams but Dortmund are at home with Bayern away. Dortmund start 2 points ahead with Bayern having a superior goal difference so Bayern would take the title with a win if Dortmund drew.

Me too, like of all the goals Pele attempted to score the most unuque ever, and this one always stood out for me.

City's squad depth is otherworldly, I don't think there's any squad in Europe that can compare to it man for man, it's like trying to destroy the Death Star, we need a trench run!

I agree that we have a better shot than Inter as we are much more familiar with City, but they're looking pretty unstoppable right now.

There are so many nuances to coaching now as well, with the more complex systems and different uses of players, not to mention in-game management coming more to the forefront.

That's the difficulty for Brighton, they have to hold on to the important cogs in their machine long enough to get a strong foothold in the top 7, Dortmund for instance only usually sell one big player pre summer, no mass exodus stuff like at Ajax.

I was really surprised to see Leicester get a point last night, suddenly things look really grim for Everton and Leeds are all but down.

Lol Spursing needs to be officially added to the dictionary. :D honestly these European competitions have gotten more and more convoluted, I remember the days when only the actual winners of leagues went into the European Cup, now the team who sold the most pies at halftime across the season gets in!

Love that dummy. :hehe: Would have looked ridiculous if he got it wrong .

I think teams will eventually be able to compete with City’s first team if they get everything right, but outside of Madrid when they replace the old guard, not with their squad/second team. They were able to release the likes of Sterling and Zinchenko to rivals as they wouldn’t even get in to their second team.

Familiarity and I also think Utd has a bit more about them. City will also give everything in that CL match and it being the last game of the season with no international tournament, it's even worth a red card or injury to get the trophy. The FA Cup is great, but the CL is the biggest and the one they've never won. Winning it allows the huge haul of other trophies to get that much more credit too, as winning tons without the CL always feels like something missing. Also the other Euro teams won't always be at a relatively weak point so this is the time to get it over the line. Pep will be making that prioritisation clear I'm sure, no point any key players getting injured in the FA Cup final and then missing the CL final.

You need to be a hardcore student of the game now with many more strings to your bow and much more analytical ability than before.

Yeah, and also Dortmund (Ajax too) were already thereabouts anyway with a much stronger structure underneath all that activity. Brighton without this element could be a natural championship or lower team. It will be difficult but they are so far ahead in this area relative to most other teams that they could potentially make enough money to entrench longer term benefits.

I really wanted to secure the CL with a win in our last home game and also to help send Leicester and Vardy down, but we just couldn't score after so much possession and so many shots, and then actually looked vulnerable at the end! Everton absolutely have to win. Leeds look down already, yeah.

Haha.

Most pies sold is a valid metric mate. :funny:

Dortmund throwing away the league title on the final day of the season, losing 0-2 at home with 30 mins left. Bayern about to be champions again.

Shows how being ahead on the last day but not being over the line is so dangerous with the additional pressure, and anything can happen in one day of games. Such a shame for the German league - pretty sure nearly every non-Bayern fan would have wanted Dortmund to win. Would have been a much better sporting story to tell if Arsenal and Dortmund were champs this season rather than the ones dominating.

Been asleep during the day so missed the Bundesliga drama totally. The playoff final is currently 1-0 to Luton over Coventry - oh now 1-1 while I’ve been looking away. Life left in this one then!

Going into extra time now after normal time finished 1-1. I imagine plenty of drama to come.

With the season almost over and being over 1000 pages, maybe after the CL final, it's time for a new thread?
