I wonder what Penguin being in this movie means for the Mob. Are Falcone and Maroni already mopped up by Batman?

That might actually be a good place to start with this Batman. He's taken care of the mob already, but he's still unprepared for the "freaks".

Matt Wagner's Batman and the Monster Men did something similar to that. It was good.

Penguin's tough in terms of fan casting without the knowledge of the type of Penguin Reeve's is going to go for, or the type of actor he has in mind.

There really hasn't been a very consistent portrayal of Penguin in live action . We've gone from Meridith to Devito to Lord -Taylor. All them have been different physically and personality wise as Oswald Cobblepot.

I can't tell if Reeve wants to go somewhere in line with the previous portrayals or take the character in a totally new direction.
It's certainly looking like he's most definitely going for a fat gangster at the very least.

I'd like a movie that touches, like The Long Halloween, on the traditional old-school mob being replaced by the freaks.

The Dark Knight had slight touches of this, with Scarecrow still running around at the beginning and The Joker and Two-Face ending up killing off what's left of the conventional mob bosses, but I'd like a Batman movie that really makes it a major plot point.

Jesse Plemons is the greatest idea on the planet. I saw that on twitter right after El Camino dropped on Netflix and I couldn’t believe it never crossed my mind.

Probably because he actually doesn't make a lick of sense to be the Penguin?

Reminder that a fan favorite for Penguin, Philip Seymour Hoffman (RIP), was 5'10".

Plemmons is def more of a bruiser type. I'd like a little more refined for Penguin.

dont get the plemons fan casting he would be more suited for a penguin henchmen

Maybe they could start with Batman taking them out. Or show it in flashback later. Or even Penguin taking them down.

If an actor that was willing to put on the weight, then who do we have?

Plemons is great but he seems a little too blue collar for the Penguin. I've always seen Oswald as more of an upper crust, old money type. Maybe Plemons can pull that off, but I have trouble seeing it.

This is gonna seem a bit outside-the-box, and a couple years back I would've said "hell no", but if Uncut Gems turns out good...

Pretty good choice if they were initially considering Jonah Hill for Penguin. He was quite good in Mindhunter and seems to me as capable of carrying a character such as Cobblepot. Just throwing a young name that no one has thought of for the role.

I'd be 100% okay with this

This guy legit creeped me out. I could definitely see him as Penguin.

I’m all for this
Picturing him with a monocle & pointy nose

Alright. I thought I was losing my mind when I thought of it while watching the trailer for that movie but I'm glad SOMEONE else sees it lol

I think it's a pretty cool choice.

But going back to someone a little more inside the box, has anyone thought of Jeremy Bobb? This super smug dude was in Russian Doll this year, and he's a total Penguin-type, very much in the Philip Seymour Hoffman mold but with his own thing going on.

He was fantastic in The Knick. Good choice.
