I don't get the hate on Gad. Maybe he has some dramatic chops we haven't seen yet. Reeves has worked with people mainly known for comedy before (Steve Zahn) and made him work in a role where he could've been Jar Jar 2.0

Agreed, I believe he has what it take to pull it off, and like you said, the evidence is there that he’s already landed the role.

I'd be fine with Gad - he's a fine actor and looks the part. Besides, I don't think he'd be the main villain so he would just be a supporting character anyway

It depends on what type of Penguin Reeves is going for. I don't know any of Gad's work so I really can't jump on his bandwagon. At the same time, I can't dismiss him either for his acting.

In terms of other actors in general, I think there are a wide variety of actors who could pull it off depending on what type of Oswald they want.

Heck, they could even find a Bale or Hardy -like actor who can put on weight Raging Bull style for the part as opposed to looking for an actor who's already overweight. Even that's assuming they want a hefty Penguin.

How in shape? I don't like my Penguin super obese, but short and stocky is ideal, imo.

I don't honestly know, I remember seeing a picture of him somewhere though & he actually looked like someone who spent an hour in the gym every other day.

He's the first suggestion I've seen that rivals Jack Black for my favorite choice. Iwan Rheon was born to play a Batman villain, but not Penguin, in my opinion.

Every time I hear Jonah Hill be considered for the role, I cringe, and I'll admit I'm not being fair to the guy. Every time I think of him, I think his early roles where he played in dumb comedies and he was really overweight. I'm judging him on roles just like the Pattinson haters do with Twilight, and that drives me nuts. I keep forgetting that the guy has lost lots of weight, has received academy award nominations for dramatic roles, and was even voted onto a best dress list back in 2018. maybe they should let him at least screen test for it, I imagine he would probably surprise a lot of people including myself.

I could easily think of five roles that DiCaprio would be fantastic in when it comes to comic book movies. It's a shame it seems like he has no interest in that type of movie

Yeah, Gad has slightly more experience. That kid will always be the kid from Harry Potter and twilight to me and that ain't changing. I'm willing to see if he can make me see Batman though.

Like I said: We've never seen Gad play intense before and the roles in which he's been serious in has been counted, mostly because he just seems to enjoy doing comedies and PG stuff. You can't exactly give a breathtaking performance you're Olaf and Lefouf. We have no idea what he'd do if he suddenly decides to go serious, and if Matt Reeves trusts him for the job, maybe he has something we haven't seen yet. He's never done drama. He's never done intimidating.

There's this guy in Mexico named Javier Duarte who has the most ridiculous look, the most ridiculous voice and the most ridiculous presence imaginable but he's still a frigging monster that lead to an entire state going into bankrupcy and high levels of criminality. That's a different kind of villain as well, and not to name any names but I'm sure there are many US examples of people like that. And Penguin could work like that

Someone that you just hate. Not even someone that you fear, just someone that you look at and just despise.

Well, maybe Reeves is looking to do a version of Penguin that's annoying and easy to despise, which can work since he's not the main antagonist.
