The Penguin The Penguin on HBO - General Discussion

I saw that Production List recently had it listed for a June 15th shoot date.

That seems deathly quick and from the off I'm pretty doubtful of that

The show got announced a month and a half ago, give or take. There's no way they've written the scripts for the show that quickly, surely. Let alone done all the casting and logistical organising of sets and props and the like. I would've guessed closer to Octoberish

The scripts for the show have been started to get written since September, so they're most likely pretty close to done, but the pre-production does seem off.

Can you link? It seems pretty quick.

Yeah, it's by no means a guarantee and I have my doubts as well. I've seen numerous projects that never reached their original date and some that were never even filmed at all. Furiosa for example was listed for a November 2021 shooting date and it still hasn't gone into production. It does however show that they could be aiming for that date for the time being and it might be full steam ahead in the next few months. Maybe they have been developing it for quite some time before the official announcement. Or maybe it's nothing since we have zero news on director and supporting cast.

In any case here's the link. It's in last week's Production Weekly too.

it got announced in september actually. the march announcement was straight-to series order.
could very well see a june/july filming start.

I bet casting is done... tv shows just don't leak / have the importance as a film does when it comes to casting.

Ehhh… for something like this, we’re definitely going to see casting announcements, but considering how HBO operates, I’m willing to bet it’s large chunks of actors all at once, rather than one or two at a time.

Here for Colin Farrell Supremacy.

Any Penguin comics they can take inspiration from? I haven't read any but want to know if you guys know of some that could work.

Most obvious one is Penguin: Pride and Prejedice. It's got some really good elements Reeves could borrow from, definitely check it out

*Pain and Prejudice

Yeah it’s one of my favourites. The last Penguin centric comic I read was Snow and Ice from Alan Grant. Don’t think they’d use that though.

Must of had something else on my mind lol thanks for the correction

Given Liotta was recently in The Many Saints of Newark, I'd wonder if he'd want to take a break from mobster roles?
I think they have casted small movie actors like the Chernobyl guys or Kenzie in those mobster roles.

He’s kinda typecast in those roles. He was in No Sudden Move (title?) in a similar role around the same time so I think he just likes getting paid and playing to his strengths.

Do we know if Reeves is going to direct any episodes?

how legit is that casting call?
definitely sounds like clayface (basil karlo or matt hagen adaption) and rupert thorne
