It might also be because Warner Bros. keeps losing money and they're considering splitting the company into two separate studios.I'm not sure I understood why those projects didn't move forward. They were going to feature less known characters and WB didn't think they were going to make money because of that?
The "marquee characters" thing is something they wanted even from BEFORE WB merged with Discovery. It might also be because Warner Bros. keeps losing money and they're considering splitting the company into two separate studios.

I wonder if it could get resurrected as long as they focus more on Gordon and do a straight up Batman Year One type of adaptation. Reeves did express interest on showing how Gordon and Batman's relationship came to be.It's a shame Gotham PD got axed seemingly in part for not being Batman-y enough. I'm a lot more interested in that conceptually than most of the villain ideas or the now dead Arkham show.
The pitch was set in Year One.On the one hand, The Batman’s vibe did feel perfectly suited for something Gotham Central-adjacent, but… I also feel like something like that benefits from a more established Batman/rogues gallery. A Year Two Batman and a rogues gallery that’s only just starting to emerge feels like it might limit things just a bit.
Huh…
Kind of an odd choice considering there’s not a huge age difference between those two actors.
