I read this book years ago and reread it today in under 12 hours. I had heard recently that it was on a list of banned books and while cleaning up I stumbled across it and picked it up again.
Needless to say I researched it online casually and saw that a movie is in the works :)

wiki page for the book:
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/The_Perks_of_Being_a_Wallflower

synopsis:
Told through a series of letters to an anonymous person, Wallflower digs into the life a high school teen named Charlie. Smart and shy, he writes about family issues, the loss of his aunt, high school woes, and crushing on a senior girl, and friend, named Sam

'Emma Watson Might Discover 'The Perks of Being a Wallflower'

article said:
Our Hermione Granger, Emma Watson, may have found her first leading feature role outside of the wizardly series, and it's a pretty good gig to boot. Variety reports that Watson and Logan Lerman (Percy Jackson) are in talks to star in an indie adaptation of Stephen Chbosky's The Perks of Being a Wallflower. Chbosky is not only set to adapt his novel -- he'll also direct while John Malkovich, Lianne Halfon, and Russell Smith produce.

I just read this book and I really enjoyed it. I'm surprised that it's banned.
The movie has a good cast and I really hope they can pull this off

Full cast so far:
Logan Lerman as Charlie.
Emma Watson as Sam, Charlie's love interest, Patrick's step-sister.
Ezra Miller as Patrick, Charlie's best friend, Sam's step-brother.
Paul Rudd as Bill, Charlie's English teacher.
Mae Whitman as Mary-Elizabeth, Sam's best friend and Charlie's first girlfriend.
Nina Dobrev as Candace, Charlie's sister.
Nicholas Braun as Pony-Tail Derek, Candace's boyfriend.
Johnny Simmons
Kate Walsh as Charlie's mother.
Dylan McDermott as Charlie's father

What exactly is in the book that would warrant being banned?

Well according to wikipedia it says because of the book's treatment of "drugs, homosexuality, sex, and suicide"
But really nothing in the book is graphic or so in depth that I would say that it warrants it being banned

I had honestly never even heard of this book until about a month ago. A good friend of mine wouldn't stop talking about how good it was, and so i picked it up to see how ''good" it really was. Hoooooooly crap did I like that book.

Needless to say, I'm very excited for this movie, and not just because of emma watson lol

They're filming the movie in Pittsburgh right now. The local news has shots of Emma Watson riding around in the back of a pickup truck last night as part of the shoot. Can't get the video to link but it's posted on the main page of their site here

I read this book in high school. I liked it enough to see this, and the fact that Emma Watson is in it is a plus.

This is filming in Pittsburgh? Can Watson do an American accent?

bumping this as the movie is slated for September and I will be soon reading it again for the third time

im not ashamed to admit it. THis book was the first and only book to make me cry

I am very much looking forward to the film. Love the book. It's reassuring that Chblosky is both writing and directing the movie. And the cast he managed to assemble is solid.

It hasn't been posted in this thread. So here's 6 images from the movie:

wow, I really want to see this, never read the book, although I've heard about it. any interest I really had was because of Emma Watson, but after that trailer I really want to see this now.

Now that's the Logan Lerman I remembering being impressed by in Jack and Bobby.

I can't wait for this. The book is really exceptional and I highly suggest if you haven't read it to do so. The trailer was good and I immediately recognized some of the great quotes and scenes from the book.

A fan of the book was able to see a test screening back in January. They spoil a few things about the movie, but say it's amazing.

when i read this book as a teen i felt like my privacy was violated.

i hope the movie is as good as the book.

The shot of Emma Watson in the corset has me there. For the love of God. :atp:

I'm so glad to see her career continuing beyond the HP films, she's kinda my celebrity crush.
