A decade of being a Hypster...

Hey, thought this deserved a thread for us "old folk" on the hype. Where we can reflect and do the things us old people do. haha.

So in a little over a month, i hit the big 10 year mark on the hype. I joined the hype back before when it was still called "Spider-Man Hype" when the first movie was coming out. I was 15 (about to turn 16) and i've had a really incredible time on here. And this is my story.


The hype has caused me to meet many great people, and friends over the years.. many in person.

Thanks to the hype I have had a few life changing events that probably wouldn't have happened with out this website.

-I use to talk to Jspider13 back in the day, for quite a long time. We shared a common love for animation and of course spider-man. We were the same age, but he started school a year before me, and thus was heading to college a year before me as well. He was going to an Art Institute in Los Angeles for animation, and I was definitely interested in this. So i looked into the school, I went on a vacation to California the summer before my senior year (as a graduation present) where I got to meet Jspider13, and I eventually flew out again to visit the school.

It was the only school I ended up applying too, and I got in. Jspider13 and I were roommates for 3 years (before he graduated, and I moved into my own place) And I lived in California 4 years after that.

The total 7 years in California were some of the best in my life. I grew a lot, and experienced a lot. I came out while in LA, and have also met several more hypsters, for instance Anita I met at a Proposition 8 Rally, I believe I also met SpiderHulkThing (or Ncrawler) one year at comic-con, another hypster (i think his sn is BatsLovesCats or something like it.. was actually a roomate for about a month or 2 out there), And i Also met Speedball on a trip to DC for another Proposition 8 rally.



the second life changing event happened to me more recently...

I've recently moved back to Ohio, where I met Marx , and currently quite smitten with him. And we've been dating about 2 months now. And I love him very much.



So I ask you fellow hypsters, who've been around to gather round and tell your hype story. , and maybe we can reminisce on old times.

I hit the big 1-0 back in January. I was a sophomore in college when I joined and had been a lurker for several months before then. Some of you may remember me as Demogoblin. (No you wont.) Being on the Hype kept me sane in college. The social scene didnt interest me so I spent a hell of a lot of time posting. It was always awful when I couldnt get access to a computer.

Since I joined, I transferred to another school, dropped out, came back. I was diagnosed manic depressive and graduated college. My mother died of lung cancer and I've been working at the super market deli for far longer than I ever intended. After a long time, I decided to go to grad school. The Hype has been there the whole time. *sniffle*

Got a ways to go before I get 10 years under my belt. I found this place through another message board called Animation Insider and I was welcomed by some cool cats like Ktulu, Dissonance, UncannyAsianGirl, and some others. I've literally watched some younger posters grow up, which is crazy!

I hear ya.. I actually dropped out of school too. I'll probably go back someday, but right now i feel like i need to be concentrating on other things. School was burning me out pretty badly. I'm sorry to hear about your mother though .. and I vaguely remember your old screen name

Dropping out was a hard blow but a necessary one. I'm sure you had good reasons too. Its been a lousy ten years but thats life. At least now I have a place to talk comic books and comic movies and people know what I'm freaking talking about.

I don't know... I do know Daisy and I's clone 'Twydaisy' was removed from the member list.

Pretty sure I was aligned with the FFSers. LarryLegend became my Hype Big Bro, and Lee was the one who invited me there when I first joined, that was when it was Pre-Community, and I met my first ex in that thread I was 18ish then...I was such a twit back then when I look back on my posts from 03-06. So weird to think I've matured on these forums.

Once The TB moved to Community I learned the ways of it for a few years before sinking back into the comics and RPG's. But I was part of the Pre-Lounge's era Night Club (when we actually loosely roleplayed in there with the Hype Brat Pack), and I remember the C4.

I miss MC, Socrates, XC, Drak, T and GL.

Lackey, Equinty, Holly and others too But they were classes ahead of me.

I'm only a half-decader but the Hype has been awesome to me. I count Carnotaur3, Solidus, and Anjow1060 as some of my closest friends. And I have a total crush on Miranda Fox

I spend most of my time on the Batboards but I still love perusing the Community and other areas, and Hunter Rider and Morg have had my back on more than one occasion and for that I'm grateful. Good thread!!

Congrats! A decade on Hype is a badass accomplishment. I don't see myself lasting that long at all -- I'll probably be banned within the year.

wow you've probably seen a lot of people come and go. crazy to see how the forums go through cycles and changes in what people are talking about or interested in right? I've been a member of another site for a long time now and I can see what you mean
