Midnyte,

Without further ado, this was from when I took my camera out for the first time and ran into some friends in which I took 10 shots in crappie conditions. Here is two of my son, as I don't have permission from my friends to put up theres.

Date Time Original: 2012:02:07 16:35:21
Exposure Time: 1/200
F Number: 4
Exposure Program: Manual
ISO Speed Ratings: 1600
Metering Mode: Pattern
Flash: Flash fired, compulsory flash mode
Focal Length: 30
White Balance: Manual white balance
Make: Canon
Model: Canon EOS 60D

All of these bounced in ETTL on camera with Black Foam Thingie (BFT), and with the last one I got a pink cast off a red tube but I thought it set the mode. Virtually straight outta camera as I just add a bit of vibrancy.

I love the colors on this shot. How are you liking the new camera? Did you hear of the new Canon camera that is being released soon with it's unattractive $3500 price tag? lol

Nice. I would have killed to have had a panoramic shot of the Grand Canyon when I was there.. Do you use a Sony camera or this with software?

I stitched it together using Photoshop CS5. With the crazy weather over here, I just go for it whenever the weather is right. Yesterday I went to the North Shore Harbor to shoot the lighthouse using a circular polarizer. But the waves were so high they'd have swept me off the ground and into the bay rocks. So I went to the lighthouse high above the hill nearby. I got the results I wanted. Plus I got some shots of these thirty feet tall waves crashing into the rocks.

Just a couple I took years back and a self-portrait i took more recently.

Nice! I hope we can see your new lighthouse shots. I took some pictures near Half Moon Bay in California, but the waves were nothing like 30 feet! I look forward to seeing them.

Midnyte_Sun,

Thanks. Yes I'm loving the camera to death and the glass. Serious hobbyist now and to hope have a few more shots. I really want to try a boduior (Spelling?) shot or some glamour since I seem to do well with one person and lighting them.

The 5DMIII? Yeah. the reason it's so expensive that it's a full frame (I want one) and updated AF for pro consumer and ISO range. I will still take a 5DMII, tho.

Wadjet,

Welcome!

Lunar,

I really do like that one with the bridge, tho. Nice sharp, and the colors take on.

You have great talent for filling a frame. I need to take more pictures like this.

Thanks guys. I'm joining a photography club on Wed.:woot:

This one I took in Dallas, it was my first attempt at long exposure shots, the ISO was on auto, and it switched to the maximum, so I had to use photoshop to remove some of the grainy JPEG artifact.

This one was in South Lake Tahoe, California.

Nice shots, especially the composition of the second image. I want to do some long exposure shots soon.

Midnyte,

Nice long exposure! I was just curious a to why you used F22? Could have done it with a lot less, and dropped your ISO down to boot. I would done at like F11 or give or take.

Alistair, this was one of my first night shots with this camera, first night shot; I was still learning about F stops and ISO's when I took that shot. I can't stress enough at how amateur I am with cameras. Me and some friends were on a road trip and I didn't wrap my head around the idea of technical aspects of a beginner DSLR until until I was half way through the trip.

Ah! We have started from somewhere, and I'm still a big noob myself. Either way, I was just curious for that seemed strange since some of your other pictures (I'm EXIF looker since I learn about photo's that way) that you have taken. Either way the most important thing is your having fun!

I envy your location. Those are huge waves, damn, you were right about not getting too close. This place would be awesome to shoot just before Dawn with a long exposure.

I have 50 ISO slide film. :woot:

Yeah I've gotten fractionally better since July :O

If you can't try 50 ISO film at least once in your life then what's the point?

True. I personally would have loved to learn and do the dye transfer process , that looks like fun.

Very very true. I learned how to meter a camera back in the early 90's for yearbook, and my mom taught me how to run a darkroom (We had a enlarger and all of that stuff). I just couldn't keep with it since it was so expensive to do.

It was a blast lemme tell you, and I'm still learning overall and digital. Today I did a print I showed earlier after Skin Smoothing, and did a little bit of dodge and burn. Not the best, but it isn't horrible either! Woot!

So I guess I'm going have to go out and shoot tomorrow then after I do a few more editing of photo's. I know on Thursday I will have some, tho.

Have any of ya guys done Astro? I sooooo wanna try that, and maybe when the sky clears up I'll give it a wack again since 70-200 2.8 is tack sharp and see if I can crop up Jupiter or something.

Howdy guys!

Did my first wedding, and to be honest I don't know if I'll ever do one again. It was to stressful, but it might be due that I was shooting at White Sands National Monument...

I couldn't see my histogram due it being so freaking bright out (High Noon, worst time to shoot), while trying not to blow out her dress, keep the sand some what white and her husband wearing black. I don't have a ND Filter yet for this glass, nor a CPL. In hindsight I should have used a reflector. I have a human size one, but I think the sand would have really destroyed it so I guess this was the best set up. Hated shooting so high (F22).

Anyways, here is a few shots and lemme know what ya guys think! This has no editing except a little bit of vibrancy, and light correction (Kelvin).

The White Sands environment could have the same bright conditions as a snow covered landscape. Therefore, your camera probably overcompensated in the exposure, making it appear underexposed. Well, that's how it appears to me. Yeah, high noon is the worst time to shoot on a clear day, but if you shot in raw, you can play with the images more without losing information. The composition is very good for wedding photos. Keep it up!

Don't underestimate the range of a beginner DSLR. If you can control the ISO, Aperture size, and Shutter Speed, you have all the basics to shoot great pictures. I'm still learning the custom settings of my F100, but I can do fine with basic photography knowledge.
