The reason why I don't like that and straight outta camera is I hate all the extra work. I don't mind dodging and burning, and such. But sitting there for hours just do one thing boggles my mind.
How long of exposures are you doing? Just curious for that can increase noise, or bring out artifacts since the sensor is heating up. Also, what time is your ambient temp? What ISO are you shooting at when you did this? I'm thinking that might be the issue at hand from what your telling me.
Yeah, it's pretty much the same. I can't just sit for hours playing around with something. On top of that, I want to that I can get the image I wanted without having to cheat myself in post.
I must check my images later and see what the exposures were. I think I had the shutter open for 30 seconds with, F22 and 40 ISO. 2 thick black lines appear with a black circle on the left.
I've got more questions:t:
I'm thinking of buying the Nikon D5000(used). I'm currently working with my nikon D50 and I think it's time to upgrade.
Will my current lenses work with other Nikon camera? I have the standard 18-55mm lens, 200mm lens and a macro 60mm. I don't have a flash yet, but are all Nikon flashes compatible with different Nikon cameras too?
thalidomide,
Exactly. Those are good words, and it shows how good a photographer is even with less processing if they can get it right straight out of camera, IMO. I mean that's your thing, fine, but that's how I view it. Despite a lot of good photographers do stress this as well.
I do use Lightroom as a organizer, which it does very well and quick edits. Such as White Balance, fill, recovery, vibrancy and sharpening (Since I shot RAW it's pretty flat) or what not. Elements for really bad acne and I do have to skin smooth or dodge and burn a little bit more thoroughly. I try to spend no more than 15 minutes max on each photo.
Midnyte,
Thank you! That's what I try to go for to be honest, as I look at all these other shots that are glamour related, and such. I hate that over processed skin feeling and such. I mean, get rid of acne and such, but keep the other things in that are part of them. Say, a little bit of beard of what not. Don't get that out and turns them into plastic.
What do you mean by offend someone with a shot? Everything is subjective, it just depends on what you personally like and that photographers style. There is people I admire, and people despite my newbie ness likes my lighting style, or my lighting (even around here at home).
Perfect timing. Nice shot![]()
I envy you because you can shoot RAW. I only have 4gb of memory on my slr that's why I use jpeg![]()
I guess what I was trying to say, no matter what style you choose, you aren't going to please everybody. I think some photographers are pretty critical of others work. I was watching a photography contest on the net and I saw some fantastic work ; yet not only were they [pro photographers] critical, but they totally ripped some decent work that I thought was great.
Thanks! I'm relatively new to sports photography, but I had gotten an interview to be a sports photographer and needed a portfolio. 36 hours before I needed one, I shot some people at a park and this was one of the resultsStill have lots and lots to learn about sports photography... it's certainly more difficult than it seems.

I use 4GB cards too, but I have about 4 of them. I believe only class 4, or 6. Nothing to high, and it gets the job done, IMO.
Wow! That is pretty high on the F stop scale there, and are you taking this during the the day, or pointing at something bright? Cause it sounds like the glass is focusing on the sensor and heating up, very, very quickly. Really at that stop I wouldn't doubt it and 30sec's is a pretty long time for a shutter to be open.
I believe Nikon lens mounts are all interchangeable, it's Canon that change every 10 years. Don't quote me on that, so I would look around a little bit. You just might not be able to meter correctly, or get AF and ya might have to do it manually. Either-way, there is some 3rd party mounts that change that stuff for you; just look around.
Just be careful how many shutter counts that camera has before ya buy it, but most people are pretty truthful to be honest. That's what happened with me I got tired of the Rebel XS (Good camera, don't get me wrong!) but I need more flexible and that one is about Nikon's version of my 60D by the looks of it.
Hey guys just a thought, how about we make a theme day in this thread?
Lunar,
How old is the camera? I say your shutter is about to give out if it's getting stuck. If it's still under warranty I would send it to Nikon, and see if they are able to fix the issue for a repair.
I'm still thinking something is wrong with the sensor, and it might be need to be repaired. I can't really tell in the candle light photo since it's so dark, and the image is really small. I can see it on the other one, and it looks like pixel's are stuck or dust. Not totally sure. If ya want, you can send me a full resolution file and I can take a closer look, or you can go to POTN boards and see what they say. If ya wanna send it to me, go ahead at scott at scottsphoto dot net
It's up to you.
Your welcome for the info, but the best research is to do it yourself, IMO! The only thing I would love to have a Nikon for is HSS is built into their camera's where Canon is on the flash. =/ But I think Canon has better noise abilities than Nikon.
First shot is fantastic. Looks like Freddy.
Wait I forgot that we all have jobswe should make it theme of the week not day, sorry. This isn't going to be a competition, this will help us get motivated and share some techniques/tips with each other
BTW good luck on your model shoot![]()
That'd be great. The art threads have a monthly competition.
I bought a Nikon D3100 today. I had them look at the D50(I'd like to use it as a back up). It's looking like the mirror and sensor are faulty. I've had the camera for about 6 years and it's had it's moments of bumps and what not.
Nice! Keep at it so you can get use to it! It took me awhile too.
So does anyone here make money off of their photography or is it all just for fun? Curious.
I'm a paid sports photographerAnd I've done pro senior portraits too. However, I'm fairly new to the professional world.
