How does Continuum compare to his John Mayer Trio stuff? I really dig that album quite a bit. His other stuff makes me want to put his mouth on a street curb and kick the back of his head.

jag

A couple songs from the JMT album appear on Continuum. Overall, I'd say Continuum has more of a mellow soul sound than a raw blues sound. I guess think Lionel Ritchie meets solo Eric Clapton.

Has anyone heard the new Yo La Tengo album yet? It's got the probably the best album title I've heard in a while, "I Am Not Afraid Of You And I Will Beat Your Ass". I'm wondering how it holds up against some of their past work like Painful and I Can Hear The Heart Beating As One, which are my two faves of theirs.

no, but my friend has been saying its the worst album title he ever heard in his life.

but then, he thinks pet shop boys are better than yo la tengo, so....

Has anyone bought The Rapture new album, Pieces Of The People We Love? I recently listening to their new single, Get Myself Into It. The song is quite catchy and addictive but not as funky as House Of Jealous Lovers. Whoever love Disco Punk aka Dance Punk, I recommend you to listen or watch the music video.

Moving Units
The Faint

Any you guys ever heard of the 13th Floor Elevators?

:o

but, actually you probably have, if you watched High Fidelity.

The song John Cusack is playing right as the movie starts, (as the needle hits the record) is "You're Gonna Miss Me" by them.

oh yeah!!! i've seen that move upwards of 20 times. weren't they on subpop back in the 90's with bands like eric's trip and velocity girl?

maybe as reissues or something. they're from the 60's.

then who the hell was that "elevators" band on subpop back then?

edit: nevermind, it was elevator to hell.

i have no idea. but goddamnit, for some reason you made me think of Edsel, and now i *really have to hear* "my manacles" but i can't find it anywhere online.

i hate you.

The new album by Scritti Politti – White Bread Black Beer is very good. The album scored a 78 at metacritic, with a user rating of 9.6.

Green Gartside (The 6 2 blonde Welsh punk rock young communist soul singer who had dinner with Derrida) is 51 years old but his voice has not changed at all since he sang Perfect Way in 1985. I was so stunned to see another album from him, as stunned as I was when Anhomie and Bonhomie came out in 99. Rather than soul, hip hop or reggae; this record is influenced by the 60’s pop that Green grew up with.

There was a good article in the New Yorker recently about the band.

This is a great website with links to articles, MP3s and videos. There is good live video of their recent performances in the UK as well as old music videos. The video of the inane interview from the mid eighties with Green sitting next to the woman from the Thompson Twins is priceless, people really dressed like that.
