I'm a person with a very negative, contradictory, and nearly bi-polar thought pattern. I've been trying to deal with this for awhile - and will be shortly (who the **** cares if I tell some people on the internet I'm getting counselling?).
I've been told by a lot of people that my seemingly negative outlook is what holds me back alot, but my mind just seems to spin in an endless circle of cause-and-effect helplessness sometimes, and I don't know how to get out of it.
Anyway, I've heard people talk about visualization, goal-setting, ect. (and I speed-read through The Secret in a bookstore while no one was watching).
I've determined that at the moment, I'm not quite ready for the whole "The thoughts you put into the world influence the world to give you what you want", "Just think 'Yes, I can!'" thing, but over the past few weeks, I have discovered something else: the power of "No".
It's mainly a matter of health for me - being a college student with little income and a crazy schedule (see, that's me making excuses), I spent alot of the past 8 months eating disgusting things like fast food and junk. This month I came back to my hometown for a visit with a flu, and because I didn't feel well, I didn't pick up any soft drinks (or whatever you call them wherever you live), and due to my sickness, didn't feel the withdrawal at all.
Suddenly, something snapped. I didn't need to be dependent on any drink, any food. I didn't need to obsessively count calories and feel guilty knowing that while I was usually still under my recommended amount, I was just eating small portions of unhealthy things.
Since being here the past 3 weeks, I have been drinking 2-4 bottles of water a day, something I have never done before, I have not gorged myself on junk food. I have begun to eat vegetables again. I can walk through a grocery store, even if it's between meals, and resist the temptation of disgusting pre-packaged crap by simply saying to myself, "No".
I am creating a major change in my life. I just thought I'd share it.
