Typically if you cancel on someone you don't lie about it in such a way that said host can expose said lie, and humiliate you on national television. How can you possibly justify this? It was a dumb move on McCain's part, and he's going to look like an idiot after Letterman is through with him this evening.

Who knows how it was canceled. Dave is a comedian and who knows if he actually talked to John McCain himself. That's the difference between Dave and Katie.

Even if the truth is McCain never told Letterman that he had to go back to Washington, it's all about perception... and Letterman made McCain look like an idiot this evening plain and simple. The retraction in a news story never gets as much attention as the original story does, and Letterman's show tonight is probably going to get a lot of people talking. Personally I think you are grasping at straws here. McCain lied to Letterman, thought he could get away with it, and got caught in the act on the most watched late night television show in the nation. Simple as that.

But he told Letterman he'd do his show first...I dunno, I just thought John McCain was a man of principle, but I guess I was wrong. :(

Watch for yourself. :)

Also, didn't realize Leno got better ratings. I was under the impression Letterman had been doing better ratings wise for a few years now, but honestly I don't really follow those things closely.

McCain was supposed to be on Letterman, Letterman thinks he canceled to 'run back to DC for meetings on the economy', McCain was off talking to other people... in New York, and then Letterman made jokes about it and called him out.

McCain was supposed to be a guest on Letterman's show tonight, but apparently cancelled and told Dave directly that he was suspending his campaign to go back to DC. Then Dave found out during the taping that McCain was taping an interview with Katie Couric while Dave's show was taping.

He went off on McCain and Palin--I think he's just frustrated with all of them. The clips from the show were pretty funny.

Problem is, it's not McCain going to the press and saying "Hey, I had to cancel Dave to do Katie, which I felt was more important". It's Dave saying I got dumped so McCain could go back to Washington and surprise, surprise he's over at CBS. No matter what he says after this, he's just going to come off like a jacka$$ for that...and quite frankly, he just cut off one potential media outlet.

Explanation starts at 6:40 in the clip, it sounds like the senator called himself.

No, Leno's ratings have been better for awhile now...although he hasn't been to kind to McCain/Palin in recent weeks, either.

Conan had a video of Palin's visit to NY this week, which he showed a Palin double spear fishing in the Rockefeller Center fountain. :oldrazz:

Yeah, Letterman really ups his game around the 6:40 mark. I don't think Letterman could have made McCain look any worse than he did right there.

And I don't overly dramatize everything I hear in the media like you apparently do. I don't believe that everything McCain does is because of some hidden agenda.

It could easily be the case that he had emergency meetings in DC that came about as a result of this crisis. It could easily be that he had two interviews scheduled that day, but could only make one. Considering the nature of the crisis, it could also easily be that he made the choice to go with hard news over entertainment, despite that the almighty Dave might wind up 'feeling' dissed.

What you see as a flaw I see as someone who has his and his country's priorities straight.

If what you say is true, you forget the fact that he could have easily avoided this nonsense if he simply, you know, TOLD Dave all of that.

But that's BS, because he had the other interview at the SAME TIME he would've had the one with Dave. :o

So why didn't he just tell Letterman that? He basically let Letterman make him look like a giant jack*** on national television. How is that beneficial to McCain at all? You are grasping at straws here.

Letterman's analysis involving putting Palin in charge (much as McCain proposes she could be) was the only part of that where I really paid attention.

While I wonder if this stunt (much like his stunt casting a couple of weeks ago) won't pay some short term dividends, I wonder if this and the proposal to postpone the debate won't end up exposing McCain's impulsiveness and his "economy problem".

But he told Letterman he'd do his show first...I dunno, I just thought John McCain was a man of principle, but I guess I was wrong. :(

We're sorry...but 'Man Of Principle' John McCain is no longer available. Unfortunately, that item has been discontinued. There are however, several replacement options for you to consider for purchase. Among those are 'Bold Face Liar' John McCain and 'Hockey Mom' Sarah Palin (complete with Pitbull and lipstick accessories.) Which one would you like instead?

Oh man, this is the highlight of the election for me. There is nothing like a good Letterman rant/call out. This made my week
