The 2012 Presidential Debates: Debate 2

We haven't solved racism because people have the same view as you - there are more important issues. Nobody wants to talk about it, or refuses to talk about it because they don't want too or don't think we should.

They're wrong.

Where have you been? It's been talked about and is still talked about even today. Problem is you can only control employers so much.

Yes...let's spend a decade talking about equality...while everything else burns in flames around us.

Why is equality even an issue worth bringing up when there are MUCH much larger topics to bring up?

The more I listen to Obama talk...the more am thinking that perhaps the only reason he became president to begin with was because everyone wanted Bush out.

Injustice, no matter what the size and scope, is worth mentioning.

And Bush 43 would have been out of office no matter who followed him. Two-term rule! :cwink:

This is exactly why there's only so much Obama could do to improve employment, especially with the right fighting him on everything and stagnating any kind of progress over Obama's first term.

Yeah...ok. Think this through.

You REALLY believe that? YOu really believe that a woman doctor makes 80% less than a male of the same type practice? That a woman CEO of someplace like GE owuld make 80% less than a male? "We're going to save lot's this year because we were paying Bob $120,000 to run the company, but since he left and we hired Marcia we're only going to pay her $24,000." You really believe that a school would pay a man $160,000 to teach, but only pay a woman $32,000?

Even better since in my area I think teachers are pulling in about $40,000, you mean to tell me you think it true that woman teachers are only making about $10,000 a year?

Maybe you meant 8%, not 80%. In which case, 8% difference is nothing. That's not an egregious inequality worthy of Presidential outrage.

Seriously?

The U.S gender wage gap is common knowledge by now.

I want to remind some readers, despite Biden "beating Ryan" with his "sheer convictions", the polls showed Romney gathered more support, and intrade had a mild blip upwards before going back down in the high 50s zone. Give a couple days for things to coalesce.

I think it is really just enthusiasm around Romney that was inevitably going to come out. I would still be shocked if O doesnt clear 300.

They just proved gender bias in the scientific community as well. Experimentally. It was pretty striking. Anybody who doesn't think this is still a problem is woefully ill-informed.
There's a reason why many scientists go by their first initials instead of their first names. :oldrazz:

Will I get infracted if I post a picture of Obama and Mittens liplocking?

This whole "Binders full of women" stuff is just dumb IMO. I didn't see it as a gaffe by Romney last night and I still don't. There are so many other things Romney said that was 10x worse than that. To harp on the "Binders" crap is just stupid on the Dems part IMO.

You clearly don't understand the issue so I woundnt comment on it. But way to imply that women are lazy and unwilling to work. Yeah, the "double shift" and the fact that women are punished for their reproduction has nothing to do with inequality in pay...

Where did I say women are lazy, you assumed that which I think speaks more about yourself then what I think. My basic point behind that is if a woman has a child their is a less likely chance they will be working OT then a male who has a child. If the woman is single and has a child it's even less likely they work OT. I don't see how that speaks of them being lazy, it just makes them practical. If a woman has no child there is an equal chance of working OT.

I get this idea because I notice when comparing

Single Women get a higher percentage > Married Women with children > Single Women with Children

Well to me the bigger ****ing deal is Romney didn't make his riches by being a capitalist. Captain Leverage-Buyout made his fortune from... in the most laymen terms... a rigged market made to keep going up. Via pure speculation. It would turn almost half the conservatives on him, if they understood it.

My god, it would be the greatest avatar ever. Obama and Mitten swapping spit.

You would probably end up on some list somewhere.....

Oddly enough, still better than Biden and McCain swapping spit. BTW, now you will all imagine this in all of it's gross, groping detail. You can't unsee it!

lol the image is on google, its fine. post it

Racism is definitely an issue. It's one of the elephants in the room.

The fact that birtherism is even an thing is evidence of that.

Racism is the mouse in the room, and it just runs out and scares people when things aren't going the way one campaign thinks they should be going.

I haven't been watching or reading any mainstream media reaction to it, just the internet reaction. And of course, from my fellow women who are all aghast. :oldrazz:

AAAAGH NOOOOOO! :barf:

And we are STILL trying to solve racism even now.

So would your suggestion be to ignore racism until everything else is solved? We would never get to that issue.

Yeah, I pointed that out earlier. Conservatives keep bringing it up, but it doesn't change anything. Even during the debate, she said Obama kept talking about the video. It's wierd to me that they can see a video of Obama calling Benghazi and act of terror and deny that's what he said, yet see a video of Crowley saying Romney is right about the video and take that as Crowley saying Romney was right that Obama DIDN'T call Benghazi and act of terror.
