But i don't see why you want it to be critically successful,it's not looking to get a sequel it's made now and and it's a piece of work the actors and director have made in their vision to live and die, everythigng afterwards is irrelevant especially what some blowhards think

Exactly.

But that's what opinion is Cine, ppl enjoy different things and maybe it just hasn't connected with the reviewers,it doesn't deserve anything it just is what it is,what we like isn't translated to a movie deserving anything

Plus we have to see it yet,we may end up agreeing with some of the criticisms

Love the avatar Hunter Rider. And I'm agreeing with everything you're saying.

IMO its important for the movie to do well. Look at some of the movies that are box office hits and a person has to wonder if quality means anything anymore. Even if The Prestige does well, I'm pretty sure that it won't get a sequal but it ups the bar on quality. I really think that way to many people get paid to make movies that any Tom, Dick and Harry could make. Look at the list of remakes and sequals coming out. Thats pretty sad not to mention the ripoffs under new titles.

Why would there be a sequal? It's a book. This is it.

As I said, The Prestige can have Fight Club situation (critics didn't like it, but people loved) or be another The Da Vinci Code/The Black Dahlia (critics were right).

This is true,it could be a grower like Blade Runner was and still despite the reviews I'm very much looking forward to the film:cwink:

Theres some friggin' tough competition for this one...The Departed is still going strong...the re-release of Nightmare Before Christmas...Flags of Our Fathers...and then a week later...Saw III. WB's shoulda pulled this away from October months ago...and moved it to November.

WB isn't the domestic distributor of The Prestige, Touchstone Pictures is . WB has the international rights .Ther is going to be competiton no matter when the movie comes out . I think it will do fine the is weekend as well as the other movies coming out . It could be big news come Monday morning if there is record box office because there is finally so much good to see out there.

Not the movie I'd expect to have such a low rating. Interesting. Regardless, I'm still looking forward to seeing it.

Yeah, but it's only 7 reviews in. I think it's a little premature right now.

It looks like something that gets better after a repeat viewing.

That sucks, I do care. I was planning on seeing The Departed and The Prestige back to back on Monday or Tuesday, instead of school. I probably still will, but it won't be as great, I guess.

here's comingsoon.net's mini review:

Mini-Review: Although it's a bit slow and hard to absorb at first, the great performances by Hugh Jackman, Christian Bale and David Bowie as Nicolai Tesla drive what ends up being an intricate and intriguing tale of rival 19th Century magicians. It keeps you on your toes from beginning to end, always throwing a new surprise at you just as you think you've figured things out. (If you're smart or good at solving puzzles, some of the twists might be a bit predictable.) Regardless, those many twists in this brilliantly crafted mystery from the Nolan Brothers will insure you'll spend hours after seeing it trying to figure out how they did the trick. To say anymore would probably take away from the magic. Rating: 8/10

I don't bother with critic reviews so I'm not going to get worked up on the RT score .

The latest TV spot I have seen is playing up the fact that you must see the movie this weekend to see and know the big secret plot twist before it is spoiled for you . It is an good marketing ploy and may get some pepole to theaters this weekend.

Two friends of mine saw the movie yesterday. For one it's a great movie, the other one said that the script is horrible and Nolan is a bluff.

I've got a full night rehersal/sleep-over-party thing on friday. I'm going to have to see the movie earlier in the day or later that weekend.

I'm leaning towards early friday.
