Just saw the movie. Awesome. It has a lot of twists, the 99% are predictable but not the last one which is great!!!

Although the timeline may have been a tad confusing, I thought it was brilliant. Wonderful ending, and great acting from both Jackman and Bale. I actually had my friends thanking me for taking them after the movie was done and over.

I finally saw this movie tonight and it was pure brilliance!

I think my favorite part was when Bale and Jackman were reading each other's dairies and even though you know when Bale gets to the end of Jackman's dairy, he's going to get the same surprise he gave Jackman, it's still a really perfect moment of shock.

I'm taking my bro to this one when I get home for turkeyday, can't wait to see this masterpiece a third time!

Bale is the almighty! Better get used to saying that, cause he deserves some sort of mass accolades or award treatment with this film...

Jackman does too, IMO even more so than Bale. Not that he did better necessarily (I think they both did a great job), but because his role required more.

Finally, the movie started lastnight here in Australia ...seeing it on Sat or Sunday.

Its great to see that this movie is well liked. Being a period peice, I didn't think it would go over with younger people as well as it did.

My only gripe about this movie and BB was that they seem poorly edited. Its not a big deal but it didn't seem like one scene flowed into the next. Instead it was a little choppy and seemed a little to cut and paste.

That being said, I'm pretty sure its not a Nolan thing and he continues his awesomeness. I just can't wait for TDK and No. 6.

ok...can someone tell me what they believed the theme to be?

Well it is mainly about obsession and jealousy and how it affects these magicians lives and the people around them. Is that what your asking?

I agree, it's mostly about obsession, and the cost of vengence.

I saw this movie last night and the theatre was packed. Probably shouldn't be a surprise since it was a Friday night and only the second night of opening here in Oz. There were a lot of young adults (although I did spot a lovely elderly couple near the front), and I think that makes a lot of sense. I loved this movie and I'm probably going to see it one more time while it's in theatres. I watched closely, I had read some spoilers but the ending still got to me. Jackman, Bale and Caine all did exceptional jobs. Highly recommended.

this movie is probably more deep...more than obsession...more about the games we play with ourselves.

Everything comes back to obsession. That's what drives them. A movie doesn't need a bunch of themes to be deep, it explores the ones it has thoroughly.

I agree. The movie was basically about obsession and the horrible things that some are driven to do because of it. Since the premise was pretty basic, the execution had to be spot on, and IMHO it definitely was spot on. Nolan typically has movies with one or two themes, but always has a radical way of approaching the characterization. (Admit it, Memento would have been pretty damn boring if it weren't shown in pieces backwards, and the flip-flop in time was absolutely necessary to put the audience into the main character's POV.)

This movie is sensational. I'm definantly glad I avoided reading any spoilers.
I'm pretty sure I have all the contentious questions raised by the movie sorted out. I still want to see it a second time to make sure though.

I think it was left as an unknown as to which was the clone, and which was the original Angier. As he said himself, he never knew whehter he was going to be the Turn or the Prestige. He is not sure whether or not he is going to be transported over, and a copy is made, or whether a copy is made somewhere else, and he is the one that drowns.
Because no matter which option it is, he is still the same person. Even if he is the clone, he would think that he was the original. He just wouldn't know. And the two couldn't sit down and compare notes, as obviously, one of them dies quickly.

No one would know who was the clone, because as far as they're concerned, they both went through the machine.

Top movie though

I finally saw it and I'm gonna have to say best movie of the year. I was enthralled from start to finish. A definite must have for my dvd collection. I'm so suprised it didn't make more in the theaters. Not enough marketing I guess.

it beats out casino royale, departed, and x-men 3 for me.

Saw it for a second time the other night and as Sarah says when Borden teaches her the 'Bullet Catch' trick..
"It's really quite obvious once you know how it's done" or something like that.

Mmmmmm.

You could say that one line, somewhat resembles the whole film.

It's quite true, watching it a second time, the whole movie is talking about itself, you can say. The film is a giant magic trick and alot of what the characters say apply directly to the film as a whole.

Saw it last week and forgot to mention just how much I loved it. Reading the book beforehand did ruin some of the twists but took nothing away from the quality of the movie. Great performances all around too.

Just saw this today,a brilliant movie IMO and the best from Nolan so far
The acting was superb all the way through especially from Hugh Jackman who really delivered a fantastic range with his arc

The plot is tricksy and the structure means you have to pay attention which is a fine thing, the sets and costumes were very authentic and gave off a great vibe of the period

The twists are really well delivered and Nolan's build to the final reveal is expertly done

9/10

I bet this film gets a FAN-FRIGGIN-TASTIC dvd when it's released. I am always excited by Chris Nolan movie dvd's, especially ones that have his directorial commentary. His commentary on 'Insomnia' was the greatest audio commentary I've ever heard for a film. He takes you through the movie chronologically by the days they filmed and explains in terrific detail how they made the movie!

I really need to see this movie!!! I hadn't been to the cinema for a while and it was a choice between Borat and The Prestige ...sadly Borat won as I was with others.

...but Borat was still good.

This weekend is Prestige ...or Casino Royale ...d'oh so many good films on at the moment.

Some DVD release date information:
Buena Vista Home Entertainment is pushing ahead with its Blu-ray Disc releases; expect another wave on February 13th. Reign of Fire, the Matthew McConaughey and Christian Bale dragon fighting action/adventure flick should be spectacular in 2.35:1 high definition and with improved sound. Ladder 49 stars John Travolta and Joaquin Phoenix in a tribute to firefighters and Baltimore firefighters in particular. The 1080p transfer will be in 1.85:1. And the third film was recently in theaters and also stars Christian Bale, this time with Hugh Jackman. It’s The Prestige, a tale about the rivalry between two magicians in turn-of-the-century London of a hundred years ago.
