from what I remember it doesn't state specifically what the exact effect of the machine is. it's left for the audience to decide wether it does teleport the original Angiers or if it teleports the clone. Angiers himself doesn't know. neither do we.

oh right

yeah no, thats a good point cause i was thinking to myself when i was writting it, that it didn't sound 100 percent correct, yeah i agree its something sweet like that

I always assumed it teleported the clone since angier is standing in the electricity then falls through the trap door into the water case, then a clone appears high in the stadium. I thought the significance of the the last shot of angier in the water case when caine says "but of course you dont really want to know the secret because your not really looking"(or something to that effect), was that angier was so obsessed with his trick that he didnt even realise he was commiting suicide every night. The last shot, i thought, was the original angier, who suffered the same fate his wife did hundreds of days before the end of the movie.

He was so obsessed with Bordens method that it cost him his life, hundreds of times over.

ok again. why would the machinge made a clone and replace it with the original and then send teh original to another place. why make it so complicate?

I remember when I made the Prestige discussion thread about who was the protagonist/antagonist. There was so much heat in that thread.

Im confused as to what your saying but ill try to put it simply, its quite complicated.

Step 1: Angier stands in teslas machine.

Step 2: the electricity passes over angier, gathering his data in order to construct a clone.

Step 3: The angier clone appears in the rafters at the top of the stadium (it can be assumed that angier could set the clones destination)

step 4: right when the clone appears a trap door opens under the real angier causing him to dissapear from the crowds view, creating an illusion that he teleported.

Step 5: The trap door leads to the water case which locks, and Angier drowns.

Step 6: The angier clone announces his presence, claiming he teleported (since he is a clone, it could be debated that he is not sure whether or not he is the original, so he is not really lying)

Step 7: Angiers blind stage helpers clear the water case with the body and store it with the bodies from previous performances. (as seen at the end of the film)

Does that help?

By the way steps 1-4 happen in about 5 seconds.

hey i agree with that. but i think that some people here think that the original angier is the prestige and the clone dies. dont ask me why.

Yah..I dont see how anyone could think the original Angier was the prestige..its not that hard to figure out.

The thing i love about this movie is that people can go on for hours about it, and discover things they never noticed before.

the machine was built as a teleporter. creating clones was merely a side effect. what could've happened is that it did teleport the real Angiers, but some residue (aka the clone) of his remains with the machine.

I dunno, I'm just throwing the idea out there. the whole thing is so fantastical and mysterious and unexplained that it does leave room for all sorts of explanations, not one of them being definitive, and not necessarily realistic.

The trap door opens under the real angier to give the illusion that hes dissapeared. You see it happen in the movie, then the duplicate randomly appears on stage. Its just like with the hats and the cats, they remained in the same place but duplicates appeared elsewhere.

Your theory could be true, but if it was then what would be the significance of the films last shot where caines character says "but of course you wont find the secret, because your not really looking." As you see angier dead in the water cage.

This is symbolic to show that Angier was so obsessed with finding Bordens secret that he essentially killed himself to duplicate a trick which was simple. He wasnt really looking for the secret, as he was just looking into scientific possibilities or super natural possibilities, instead of just looking at what was right in front of him. Its a metaphor that humans always make things more complicated then they are.

both have interesting ideas.

prestige is a very good movie. i am so in shock now. is it real that the same guys who worked on the prestige are working on TDK? the nolan brothers?

see, but it still doesn't prove that the original is the one that stays in the machine. either way, Angiers would've still killed himself at one point or another to get the better of Borden. if not by falling in the tank the first time they did the trick, then by getting shot the first he used the machine.

either way, it shows how pointless his rivalry with Borden ended up, as it cost him his life.

and I do agree with the metaphor. I mean, look at us now. :D

yah :D some day nolan will just come in here and say that it wasnt a clone at all, it was just the guy Angier hired as a duplicate coming back for revenge.
