The Raid

I can't see how anyone can think this is boring...unless if they are some kinda film snob. Glad you loved it.

Nah he's not a film snob, just an idiot. Almost every good movie I've enjoyed he winds up hating.

As much as I loved and enjoyed TDKR and Avengers, The Raid is still my favorite action film of the year. That final fight was just so damn epic.

I would've enjoyed the final fight much more If it was shortened by a bunch of minutes. It went WAY too long and it dragged on.

I can't remember the last time I said "ow!" and "oh!" and "aw!" so many times during a movie. I was sore when it was over.

As much as I adore and worship Bane-Batman: Round I, The Raid's fight scenes were simply the best of 2012.

The Silat/Arnis was beautifully executed.

I just realized. Why are we talking about the possibility of an American remake? Isn't that what the new Judge Dredd film is going to be? lol

To be fair, the script for Dredd was finished long before The Raid's. I think Dredd even started filming before The Raid as well.

I'd say my second favorite movie this year after TDKR. I loved going into it notknowing anything at all about it either.

Literally blew my mind.

Can they hire American stunt men to take the kind of beating the dudes in The Raid took?

Goddamn. Smashing faces against walls and ****.

The movie was pretty good. The story was kind of non existent for me tbh. I was just in it for the fight scenes and they were worth it.

Just watched this and... DAMN! Those fight scenes are easily the most BRUTAL I've ever seen in a movie! Just total bad ass action!

Thought the grey haired guy kinda looked like Ricky Steamboat.

Yeah, film snob. Sorry, dude. Guys like that bug the hell out of me. Nothing is ever good, all movies suck. They just never like anything. Come to think of it, there are tons of them around here.

The action in this was indeed insane, but the constant growling and noises from the combatants made some of it come across as kind of cheesy, when I think it was supposed to be a bit more serious. It was kind of a werd mix of grit, brutal violence and cheese.

After watching this movie like 5 times I finally just caught on to the details of plot. :funny: I never caught on to the scene with the dad until my last watch.

I thought this was a great action flick. All though, to be honest....I thought Expendables 2 was way better. It had more character.

I hate the Blu-Ray cover for this thing. I don't understand the changes because it's ugly.

Read interview with Gareth Evans in Total Film.

He talks about the star of The Raid Iko Uwais going from being a delivery driver to know sending him texts from the set of Keanu Reeves directorial debut Man Of Tai Chi.

He talks about The Raid 2 having a storyline that takes place over a couple of years and Iko's character going undercover to be an enforcer for the mob. The movie will have more action and more drama.

Total Film asked Evans how he can add more action than The Raid. Evans told them he has one crazy sequence that involves a four on one fight inside a moving car as well as a five on one knife fight.

Evans exec producing the Hollywood remake of The Raid. Iko is helping to include some Silat matial arts into the choreography.

Gareth Evans wants to make a Western in his native Wales.

Yeah, it really is a piece of sh**. It's as if they did everything they could to make it look like some direct-to-DVD piece of garbage.

Nice to hear they are moving forward with the 2nd film.

I agree, I really thought would like this at 1st,, it ended up being overkill to me. Started off good IMO.. I kinda viewed this movie as like survival mode in a video game... I dont mean what im saying as a knock, just was what I got out of it.

I personally did not find this at all to be like Dredd..

I adored the hand-to-hand combat sequences. They were executed to near perfection. As a result, Silat is receiving alot of mainstream attention (similar to how Kali got recognition from The Bourne trilogy).

My only complaint would be that the choreography became too redundant after the first two fight scenes. I was also surprised to see the lack of trappings/breaks and callous strikes to the 'softer' parts of the body/cranium from the choreography.

Oh well.

At least the environment surrounding the combatants was utilized as a weapon.

Cast Set for THE RAID Sequel BERANDAL; Julie Estelle, Alex Abbad, and Marsha Timothy Sign On

One of this year’s more welcome surprises was director Gareth Evans’ martial arts thriller The Raid. Though Evans likely had plenty of offers on the table in the wake of The Raid’s success, he chose to move forward with a direct sequel as his follow-up. The Raid star Iwo Uwais is already confirmed to return in the more ambitious sequel, titled Berandal, and now Evans has unveiled a list of actors who will be joining the pic.

Per Twitch, Julie Estelle (Macabre) has been set in the role of Hammer Girl, with Alex Abbad (Merantau), Marsha Timothy (The Forbidden Door), Mathias Muchus, and Tio Pakusadewo rounding out the cast. Silat practictioner Cecep Arif Rahman was also previously announced as starring in a major role in the film, but as someone incredibly unfamiliar with the world of martial arts, none of these names ring a bell for me. That said, I look forward to seeing what kind of exciting fight sequences Evans cooks up with Berandal.
