Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. The RATINGS Thread

This show was always gunna have a niche audience
You add period setting to how deeply ingrained the film is in the Marvel continuity, plus a tiny cast with a relatively small name actress in the lead, aaand the fact its an 8 episode mini-series, basically, these ratings were probably to be expected.

AoS, while having it's bad moments in season 1, has a bit more broad appeal, and yet it's ratings are only, what, .2 higher? Carter was never going to pull in 2.0's every week

I agree with all of this and think that's why ABC/Disney might be willing to give it a bit more leeway.

Hopefully the Netflix option remains on the table. If DD is a big hit that'll open some doors for the idea, I think.

I saw this posted on Twitter/tumblr this morning. I think it might be over-reactionary, but thought I'd pass it along in case anyone's interested:

Trend #AgentCarter
This weekend (Sat 7th Feb and Sun 8th Feb), do everything in your power to get #AgentCarter trending.

Yeah, a little over-reactionary, I think. I mean, there's nothing wrong with getting it to trend or what not, it won't hurt it (unless people get really annoyed with the #AgentCarter hashtag being tagged on everything even if it's not AC related) but stating "Some are even saying it might get cancelled, and the remaining episodes won’t air." is baseless fear (and I haven't heard anywhere credible say that's even a possibility).

With only 3 episodes left (2 if we exclude next week's which we already know is going to air), even if the ratings were to absolutely PLUMMET to way below 1.0 I doubt ABC would just drop it immediately from the schedule. With so few episodes there wouldn't be a reason for them to not go ahead and just air the remaining episodes (I mean, for example, how long has Forever, which is NOT a limited series, been dropping and dropping and dropping (which is a shame because I really do like that show and it's chances seem very very slim right now - their last episode was a 0.9 rating) - and yet they haven't pulled it from the schedule and appear to, so far at least, be letting it run it's course and finish out it's season)

If that all makes sense (it's Friday, my brain doesn't want to be at work :oldrazz:)

The problem is that, this isn't a matter of cancellation in the first place. Agent Carter is a miniseries intended to be a completed plot, with the *option* of perhaps bringing it back. There was never any chance of it being "cancelled". Hell, networks generally don't do mid-season cancellations anymore, they just don't renew shows for new seasons.

Is it that there are fans who fundamentally don't understand what Agent Carter is and was intended to be? Or is it knowingly aping the forms of prior "save the show" campaigns even though they don't fit?

They want a second season. I don't think that's unreasonable.

Granted, I don't think this idea is productive, but that's a separate issue.

I admit, I find it crushing that a great show like "Agent Carter" performs so badly while a piece of crap like "Agents of SHIELD" will likely continue to be shoved at us. But nobody ever went broke underestimating the tastes of the public. Ugh.

The joys of different opinions. I don't (and have never found) Agents of SHIELD to be a 'piece of crap' at all.

Here's hoping for a season 2... Don't care if it's on abc or netflix

Would love a second season. Can't see why it has lost so many viewers.

Does anyone have the Live+7 numbers?
I've been updating the first post with the Live+7 numbers as they come out. The Live +7 numbers released today are for the week of Jan. 19-25 which is the week AC wasn't on/was a repeat due to the State of the Union.

I don't want to start worrying yet. Especially considering it has taken up the role of a "mid-season" show. Meaning even with lower ratings, it is doing better then you would expect reruns and such to do in its place. I will continue to hope for the best when it comes to this fantastic show.

^

But reruns cost $0 to produce. An original show would be expected to pull in much higher ratings.

^

Of course. Anything aired vs. anything that isn't aired is basically wasted opportunity cost. However, my point is that, all things being equal, original content is expected to rate higher than reruns since a lot of money has been spent to produce the former and nothing has been spent to produce the latter.

From Zap2It, Agent Carter's Live+7 ratings are gangbusters: a 2.8 which translates into 9.3 million viewers. The latest info is from the Feb 4 episode.

Turns out the exact demographic that is interested in this show, is the one most likely to DVR it, and then watch it later. It's a conundrum to the networks, which rely on an old business model, but there's no doubt this show has a nice size audience.

And Hayley is KILLING it. Why is she not a GIGANTIC STAR?

Hot damn!

Great news. I haven't watched the episode yet…. may not get a chance to until later on tonight when hubs is home. I heard it was really good.

Excellent news! And yes, Hayley should be HUGE. Fame is a funny thing. Meanwhile, Cameron Diaz and J-Lo are big stars.

Nice. I thought episodes 5 and 6 were excellent and easily the strongest of the season thus far. Good to see that reflected in the ratings.

My hope is for a renewal, and that season 2 picks up after the One-Shot. "Director Carter" if you will.

Glad to see the ratings are still going strong, I suspect this show will pick up even more speed as time goes on.

I don't see why you singled out those two, there's nothing wrong with either of them.

I love this show, I love having it DVR'd. I work Tuesday and get home around 11PM so it's perfect for me. I even watch the commercials.
