The Resident Evil Thread - Part 3

Yeah I miss the days of survival horror games when you struggled to survive.

Well, I started Chris's campaign tonight and got through Chapter 1 and most of Chapter 2.

Everything I said about Leon's campaign still being fun, even if it is a bit ridiculous and silly I take back. I must play Ada's part because it looks closer to Leon's if not better. And I love Ada. But getting through Chris's game and, I assume, Jake's will be a massive chore. It is just a straight up COD-styled game. Such a disappointment.

At least it proves once and for all Leon has always been better than Chris. ;) :oldrazz:

Heh. I had to say it.

Will Resident Evil ever be scary again?

If they can figure out the music and atmosphere maybe. I know RE2 gave me nightmares as a kid and a lot of it was the music. I'd get bits of the soundtrack stuck in my head and could not sleep.

This is still one of my absolute favorite tracks.

Love that!

Brings back good memories of when the series was scary.

That's really disappointing. I love Ada though and want to find out her role in all this, so I'll play it. But please say Jake is closer to Leon than Chris in the missions.

Also, I recall being incredibly stressed out and tense playing RE2 and the REmake as well. Even the safe rooms had tension because you knew there might be something right outside that door and the "safe music" was falsely comforting in its claustrophobia. The atmosphere in those games is amazing.

But I do think RE4 was one of the most intense, suspenseful rides I've ever had in gaming. If they could even recapture that, I would be happy.

Nope. Jake's missions are like Ada's. Clumsy control/crappy camera angle version of Uncharted.

The REmake is still the most horrifying game iv ever played. Thats a game that will never leave my collection

That was actually a pretty good game, it was just a little ahead of its time.

i would love it if Capcom would port Resident Evil 0 over to today's current gen consoles

So, I played Ch.2 and Ch.3 for Chris. I am liking it better today now that I am no longer thinking of it as an RE game. I get now how some RE fans felt with RE5. While it was my least favorite numbered RE game at the time, it still felt like RE to me. As did RE4 (which is still amazing, IMO). But Chris's story is not Resident Evil. I just treat it like a generic COD/GOW third-person shooter, except now I fight monsters. It works like that. But I do not know if I will be playing any RE games after Revelations this May if that's the future.

On a lighter note, is it me or has Chris become really unlikable in RE6? He is so angry at "Ada" that he leads an entire SECOND group of men to their deaths against that snake. When he's like to Ada, "You killed my men," I think "and you killed the second group." It makes the scene where they all stand up at that bar to recruit him at the beginning kind of hilarious, because he is going to lead them all to their deaths. Also, Sherry Birkin was more or less raised by Claire Redfield post-CV from what I can tell. So, he's willing to let an adopted member of the family die just to get someone who killed a few guys he didn't know for very long?

No wonder Jill didn't stick with him after RE5. :oldrazz:

I kid.

I want to play RE6, but I don't know. Chris doesn't punch any boulders in this one does he?

sherry wasn't raised by Clare since the government took both her and Leon into their custody and made them both agents. Sherry only fully becoming that recently. clare vistied her and adopted father but Claire didn't raise her.

Huh. I could have sworn that Claire raised Sherry after she escaped CV. I just checked and if that was the case it may have been retconned. Which I believe is possible, because Umbrella kidnapping her again is also retconned according to her Wiki bio which says she was raised by Simmons (bad guy in Leon's campaign who I guess will have a lot more screentime in Sherry/Jake's and Ada's).

It all changes so much, it does get confusing. I remember when Wesker was just a dirty STARS cop who worked for Umbrella and got killed at the end of the first game, for instance.

yeah well it make sense having her in government custody cause it'll too easy for wesker to kid nap her often . even if Leon or say chris and Clare saved her often . lol wow the storys that would have been made with that.

They have shown alternate ending for characters in the past with some old school ip like res.

Sherry's epilogue from Resident Evil 3: Nemesis made it sound like Claire abandoned her. I was hoping they'd run with that. Ustanak was the best boss from RE6 imo. The end of Chris's campaign is just silly imo. Even by Resident Evil standards.

I thought you played none of the spinoffs

Nah i actually still own Outbreak. I played Outbreak File 2 but i think those are the only other spin offs iv ever played, not counting Operation Raccoon City.

Resident Evil 6 multiplayer DLC now on PS3, Mercenaries map bundle in March

PlayStation 3 players can get their hands on Resident Evil 6's multiplayer DLC modes, which have been available on Xbox 360 since December. 'Predator' tasks one player with being the Ustanak, a giant bioweapon, while other players band together to take it down. 'Survivor' can be played in solo or with a team, with downed players resurrected as zombies to hunt human prey. Finally, 'Onslaught' pits two players against each other as they battle waves of enemies, each kill chain sending that many more enemies to the other player's area. Each mode is priced at $3.99 on PSN.

On top of the DLC modes, Capcom has also dated a collection of all released Mercenaries maps, including maps that were previously exclusive to pre-order customers. This one-stop Mercenaries map pack bundles together Rail Yard, Catacombs, High Seas Fortress, all available now for 80 MSP ($1) each, plus Stage Map Pack A (160 MSP/$2) and Map Pack B (160 MSP/$2). This collection will be available on Xbox Live worldwide and PSN in North America on March 5; European PS3 owners can snag the pack on March 6.

ok so I just realized some thing, it was Platinum Games that made Res 4

All capcom has to do is hire them again for their future titles and learn stuff from them like say I don't know, how to make certain game play styles work.

Okay so I finished Resident Evil 6 today. A few thoughts:

I actually liked Ada Wong's game a lot. It felt cut short and like it could have been longer, but at least all the sneaking and puzzle solving reminded me (faintly) of the original games and there was a sense that if I got caught that I'd easily die. So, unlike really any of the three games (and especially Chris's), it felt like a challenge to stay alive in parts.

Jake and Sherry have the best story of the game. I really did feel the characters grow closer and could buy Jake's cheesy arc as sincere. However, the gameplay is really, really lousy. Adding a Nemesis type character isn't scary if all you have to do is survive him from cut scene to cut scene. It doesn't feel like you're being hunted by an unstoppable killing machine. Instead, it feels like you're being annoyed by a boss that just won't stay dead and having to waste your ammo between...well, cut scenes. But at least it didn't feel like GOW. Uncharted, maybe, but not Gears of War.

So, I rank the characters' games:

1. Leon
2. Ada
3. Jake/Sherry
4. Chris

But in terms of the RE numeral games:

1. Resident Evil 4 (10/10)
2. Resident Evil REmake/RE1 (10/10)
3. Resident Evil 2 (10/10)
4. Resident Evil 3 (9.3/10)
5. Resident Evil 5 (9/10)
6. Resident Evil 6 (7.5/10)

Yes, Leon's campaign and parts of Ada's are better than RE5's best stuff. But RE5 is more consistently solid as an action game throughout, while the gameplay in Chris and Jake's campaigns were just messy and frustrating at times.

I also had a few questions related to the plot:

Okay, I get that Carla was a teenage prodigy (Umbrella seems to have a plethora of those lying around) who was infatuated with and used by...whatever the National Security Advisor guy's nam was. Got it. But why the **** did he want to "make another Ada Wong" in the first place? What was the point of that? Also, was it Carla or Simmons(?) who attacked Tall Oaks and the President? And if Simmons why? And lastly, WHAT IS THE SECRET ABOUT RACCOON CITY THAT LEON'S GAME TEASED AND WE DIDN'T SEE?!?!

Any help with these questions would be much appreciated.
