um yeah no.**** that.there's nothing wrong with the game mechanics changing to open up to a wider base.having nostalgia for something you enjoyed when younger is perfectly fine but times change.

That's totally subjective. I have a problem with tons of games changing mechanics for a wider base. Generally speaking, if you are an actual core fan of a game of series, you are perfectly within your right to see it as "something is wrong". Times change? Nazi Germany was a change. Bad argument.

Also this idea that old is just nostalgia is trite. Alot of the design decisions with games are not to do with improving the game itself but improving it's maximized sales usually by simplifying, making it easyer, making it more like other games (call of duty) or entirely changing the entire core genre to appeal to a more mainstream crowd. Thats coke can production games. Basically, what is wrong with gaming today.

Not liking the new game mechanics is one thing that's ok.but that doesn't make people that like the new ones any less fans nor should they be told there wrong for liking them. And comparing the change of game mechanics to nazi Germany is just non nonsensical thats like if someone said they like blimps more then airplanes and someone said oh yeah? Hindenburg

I liked 4 but thought 5 kinda took a step back by not trying to attempt something new MC wise.the idea it to try and please the many and a lot of people liked it.I think 6 is gonna try 3 different styles leon going for the old horror esque style.chris going for the gears of war style.and the new guy going for the running like hell away from the **** Brick house that chasing him.kinda like a nemesis type enemy that just shows up out of the blue to take a dump on your day.and theres revelations thats supposed to be old school and RE ORC or joes vs cobra which is what i call it.I think there at least attempting to appeal to everyone.

A smaller lower budget digital game could take more risks. Personally I don't really care about production values all that much now. Resident Evil 5 had terrific production values, it was like a hollywood movie from the 80's. The core gameplay design was terrible though, so all that fluff on screen was moot. It's the case with alot of games. So much eye and sound candy going on that it's like cgi in movies, very common and now very hard to impress.

Shouldn't "great game" goes shoulder to shoulder with "great gameplay"?
Not necesarily. I thought Heavy Rain for example was a great game, but it didnt exactly have the best in terms of great gameplay

It's when sometimes a game is really good but the controls or some niggly little thing stops it from excelling. They're the games that I hope do well enough to warrant a sequel so they can work out the kinks the second time round.

Resident Evil 6 welcomes Helena Harper to zombie land

Helena Harper's harmonious name isn't all she's got going for her -- she's also Leon Kennedy's buddy-cop partner in this November's cross-continental zombie-murder sim, Resident Evil 6. Capcom released the image you see of Ms. Harper above in the past few days, alongside a slew of new screens. ... continue reading.

Enjoy and discussions in session.

This deff seems like its turning out to be a wrong place wrong time scenario, at least for Leon. That was something that i deff wanted to see return. Cant wait for this game.

That's the most the internet has made me laugh for a while.

Good job internet.

Has Leon ever met Jill or Chris in the RE universe? Has Claire met Jill?

lol
Chris is having fun.

I don't think so. But Claire sent a message to Leon, in Code Veronica, while she was at Rockfort Island, which was forwarded to Chris when he was tracked by Leon, that's why he went to the Island looking for Claire.
I'm not sure if they met face to face, though, but that's as far as their interaction goes.

yeah but we knew they were coming already. oh well if capcom confirmed it all the better. ada always stalks leon. serious jones for him .

Actually i think Leon has met Chris. I believe Leon personally delivered the information on Claires whereabouts to Chris. I mean this is according to a RE Wiki, so i guess its still debatable:

Leon managed to track Chris down personally, and told him of Claire's situation, and Chris headed for Rockfort Island after her.

As for Jill and Claire, id assume they have met considering Jill was Chris's partner. Id assume there was some mutual gathering prior to the events of the first game.

I hope each campaign won't feel too short, considering we are getting 3 of them. I have this bad image of the AvP game, where each campaign was like 2-3 hrs long.

How long did a playthrough take on RE5? I don't remember anymore.

I was watching a livesteamed fan Q&A with Brett Elston and Seth Killian Capcom Unity and they said (about RE6) that the game is huge, that there's a lot more to come and we haven't seen anything yet. Strangely they seemed to imply that the trailer contained something that they thought Capcom wouldn't reveal for a while. They were also cagey when asked about the date discrepancy in the press release for the game, implying that there's more to that than we realize.

I think my first play through was around 10 hrs. Once I had all the infinite ammo unlocks I think I could get it down to around 8.

I always thought the RE games were a lot longer than they actually were. Prob because of how much they scared me. A little RE would go a long way. Same thing happened with Dead Space

I think the scariest parts of any RE game were the bits when you were 'waiting' for something to happen, more so than the actual monsters.

Unfortunately, I think even if RE returned to full horror, a lot of the old tricks of the horror trade may not be as effective. For one thing, most of the hardcore fans are older and not as easily scared and many of those horror techniques are a little outdated now. I think F.E.A.R. really distilled the fright technique down to the basics. RE would need to think outside of the box to create something truly terrifying, rather than just 'unsettling.'

Maybe, but Dead Space showed you could have horror return in full. The developers went on record saying that the biggest complaint they saw in their focus groups was that the game was too scary. Players would only play it for an hour at a time before they had to take a break because the games horror aspects never let up. They changed that in DS2, had more ebbs and flows between horror and action.

You just need great atmosphere and you can have the horror return.

But Dead Space used the same tricks. It wasn't really scary, just tense. You get to a point very early on that you could be attacked at any moment, so once you adapt to that, it isn't scary anymore. Once you became strategic in your limb dismemberment, it became more about being a shooter.

That was the last good horror game for me but it feels like it's been even longer since the last truly unique horror game.
