The Resident Evil Thread - Part 3

The only thigh I have a problem with so far is the default run instead of walking. Besides that I love this game

I don't know how you could complain about the controls for this game when it's got the smoothest and easiest control method out of any Resident Evil game ever.

@Nathan, just wait until you play the game man. Was it you who was talking about playing ORC and not COMPLETELY hating it?

Wasn't me judging the game, just stating the reasons for reviewers giving their scores. Still planning on playing the game. As for ORC, even if I'm enjoying it, I'd score it around a 6-7/10, because I can recognize it's flaws. The controls are tight, but everything else could use a lot more work.

Well the reason I say that is, if you would honestly give ORC a 6 or 7, then you'd probably end up giving RE 6 an 8 or a 9.

You really do have to play this game for yourself. I posted like a week ago about how I was bummed because my flatmate and co-op partner decided not to buy it after the demo? After watching me play Leon's campaign for 3 hours, he went out and bought it the next day. Now we're working our way through them all in co-op and we're having a blast and we are both puzzled where all these complaints are coming from.

Honestly, there isn't a single thing wrong with this game that wasn't either a) Already present earlier in the series or b) was much, much worse in previous titles, and even then, they're hardly game breaking or a big deal.

The main problem, or the polarizing issue, of this game seems to be the content, the focus on action rather than survival horror.

Which isn't a problem for me since I never found any of the other games scary. I love the controls, the visuals, and the epicness of the scale of the story

Maybe, maybe not. ORC never made any big promises, from day 1, it didn't pretend to be anything more than SOCOM with RE characters. I didn't really have high expectations, especially since it was a spin-off and not developed by Capcom themselves. I was just looking forward to a 4 player co-op game in my favorite Zombie infested city.

Now RE6 is another entry in the core series. Expectations are much, much higher. While I may not have liked the more action oriented direction of the last two games, I can admit that from a technical point of view, they were pretty solid games. RE5 was horrid as a RE game, but just as an action game in general, it was great. I have no illusions of RE6 finally being the return of its survival-horror roots, that ship has long sailed, so I'm not going to take any points off as long as it's a solid and fun co-op game.

But it's worrying to see that even people who admit to liking RE4 and RE5, just find RE6 to be tedious and shoddy.

We'll see which side of the fence I end up being, once I get to play this. Might take a while though.

Just like RE5. Didn't see that getting torn apart like RE6. Might be the Michael Bay effect though. Getting bombarded by so much action that you just start to go numb.

As someone who is a hardcore fan of the series with REmake being my favorite, loved RE4, was disappointed with RE5, I gotta say I'm loving RE6 so far. It's so damn fun and thus far the only "QTE Fest" I've seen so far is Jake's campaign and it doesn't deter the fun game play at all.

Does anyone else think its funny that the majority of reviewers hated this game but the majority of Hypsters who've played it are really enjoying it?

So far I'm finding fans enjoying it much more. Critics be damned.

I know! After reading some of these reviews, it's like they played a completely different game.... Or just the demo

Not to mention they complained about little stuff that's either been around since the first RE or RE4 :whatever:

I know, the complaints about the controls are probably the most ridiculous considering it handles better than any RE ever has before

Def like it more then RE5. The cover controls pissed me off a bit at first, but otherwise its been alot of fun. Tons of oh **** moments haha.

I'm about halfway through Leon's campaign ( I'm guessing at my progress) and I could not be happier with it. The controls are a little different from 4+5 but so much better. I completely disagree with the critics for the most part, yeah I found a few camera hiccups and a little lag but the game has been so much fun I don't care. I really don't think video game critics know what fun is anyway!

Am I the only person who gets motion sick playing this? I guess they moved the character further to the side of the screen so you could swap hands when aiming but... ugh, after half an hour I feel like puking.

Either way I played some of Leon's campaign (I started with Jake's). It's got such a great atmosphere but they really should have made the co-op completely optional. And once again it's extremely irritating that a headshot isn't an insta-kill.

It can be, just depends on chance and enemy HP like RE4 and RE5 before it.

I have also enjoyed it immensely. Have only played Leon's campaign so far.

I thought the catacombs portion (beneath the chapel) went on far to long (not to mention the structures existence in the middle of America was hard to believe as we'll). That portion definately got grating.

Plane was a nice return to form.

Content isn't the problem, with those who scored the game lowly. It's pretty much everything else that tries to hold the game together. Controls, camera, bad gameplay additions, QTE's, story and explosions, explosions, explosions.

Still haven't played it myself, but those are the points reviewers agree on. Even reviews that gave the game good scores mention some of these points.

I get what you're saying here, but I think they're making much ado about nothing. There aren't really much QTEs or explosions like I've been hearing. That might change with Chris and Jake's campaigns, but with Leon's campaign the controls and camera are much better than the demo. Plus there's really a sense of **** hitting the fan. Have you ever played Left 4 Dead? You know how all those zombies hit when they play that horn? lol There have been many moments so far like that on Leon's campaign, but not as a rip off of L4D. They managed to make it their own style. Pretty scary stuff too. I haven't played online yet because I'm waiting for a headset I ordered, but with a friend this game will be really fun.

Well the reason I say that is, if you would honestly give ORC a 6 or 7, then you'd probably end up giving RE 6 an 8 or a 9.

The action part is something I'll have to check out for myself when I get to the other two campaigns. Leon's campaign is like a love letter to all the fans asking to bring the zombies back and survival horror. Chris' demo seemed to be more action oriented like RE5 while Jake's was kinda in the middle. Since RE5 wasn't that bad I won't complain much if only one third of the game is like it when Leon's third is freaking great. If Jake's campaign is a little scary then I'm all good on the horror part of things.

Without spoilers, how is the storyline? Back in 09 I was planning to abandon the series after getting resolution on Lord Spencer and Wesker.

Is Resident Evil:Anthology worth getting? I also wonder if the games included are quality ports in graphics, gameplay, etc. Thoughts?

RE1-3 arent ports. They are the PS1 originals. RE 4 is the HD remaster that was released last year and 5 and 6 of course are the newer ones from this gen

Ok. I stand corrected, but is the set worth buying?

I dont have it as I already own RE1-4 on PSN, but if you are a fan of the series and dont own the games, then yeah. Its only $30 more than RE6. Be warned that I personally dont think RE 1-3 hold up as well today. Controls are pretty bad and graphics dont look that great on an HDTV. But if you can get past that, then go for it
