I'm telling you, as a game, it's not bad. Too many reviewers have their RE 2 tinted glasses on. RE hasn't been that way for a long time now. This is a fun, enjoyable co-op game and if you're a long time RE fan, the story and character cross over stuff is great.
Its not just IGN. RE6 has a current Metacritic score of 68 compared to RE5's 84. Across the board its doing worse on average. Heck IGN's "high" score of 79 seems suspect in comparison to all else who are giving it much worse
Hmm, thank you Havok I 'll keep that in mind. I've said all I have to say on this for now. Well till the last video reviews are up and other wise. hmm but yeah it's as I said it's time to Give this franchise out to another studio. Capcom can still publish it and still have say in some parts of the story. But over all it's time to give it out to some Dev studio that's been been successful in the survival horror genre of late.
f they continue with the same universe that will be more then fine. But other thing's they need to take a serious look at and re think things over.
Wait, I thought of a good way to describe this game. It's like The Avengers of Resident Evil. You might not get as long a, prolonged story or game experience with each character but on the other hand, its a big time, RE team up, cross over game with a cool story. So what the game lacks in the slow boil pacing of RE 4, it makes up for in fun and variety
That part with the crossing over of characters is fine. It wasn't a bad idea. But I think over all the fact that people are still missing the Horror is affecting this series for others.(gamers and reviewers) and they need that back.
I think the other elements are doable. But they shouldn't be forced up on. like the co-op it should be an option you choose to do. If I want to play solo, I'll do so and if i want to play with my buddy/ buddies I should be able to do so on the selection screen before I start the game by chose. That's how you do it right. If the people that made Dead space picked up on this the people at Capcom should have picked up on this along time ago among other things. That should a have been done by them. they just have to re think things that's all.
Did they shift the controls back to RE4 style (closer to the classic)?
Kept it RE5 style?
New system?
The change of control scheme is one of the two things that made RE5 my least favorite, second thing is Shiva getting in the way of my shooting at times and the need of one of us for the other at critical state

The reviews I have read and watched aren't saying anything about RE 2. They are complaining about how the game plays and how little you actually get to play it. That it is a bad action game.
I didn't like RE 5 all that much, but I did enjoy playing it with my brother. That might happen here as well, but that is only because there aren't many games that allow that. That doesn't make it good imo, it is just the only thing available.
ahhhh The quick time events . I heard those were playable to a point though. But to certain people still they are still trailers and seem to be turned off by it when it happens . Well at least their not blaming MGS4 for it. I remember how many people were always saying that was more animated movie then game, then it finally died down. oh and there's Asura wrath.
MGS4 is one of my biggest disappointments in gaming. That it came after the best game in the series just made it worse. How do you go from Snake Eater to that?
In RE6 apparently the camera just does what it wants, paying no mind to what you are doing.
I don't know what they mean by 'how little you get to play it'. That doesn't make sense to me. I spent 8 hours on the Leon campaign and now I'm surprised by how much I'm enjoying the Chris campaign.
People get funny when assessing the RE franchise because everyone has a different idea of what it SHOULD be, but if you're talking about the horror stuff, so far the Leon campaign was definitely cooler horror than RE 5. Classic zombies and a new version of the 'regenerator' from RE 4 were much scarier than a giant mutant Bat and african dudes with predator faces.
As far as the Action goes, that too is much better than RE 5. The freedom of movement, ability to dodge away from zombies, easy, one button tap melee, is SO much better than RE 5. Having to press a button to ready your knife and then another to slash in RE 5 was so tedious and I'm glad you can easily melee in RE 6.
The biggest complaint I've read is just the lack of 'focus' across the game, how all 3 stories are so different they don't necessarily meld together well, but I can tell you, from my experience, it's not a problem. It's something I was worried about, that instead of one big game, you'd get 3, shallow campaigns that don't add up well, but the Leon campaign felt very substantial. Some of the chapters seriously go for like 2 hours. Some of the boss fights are epic and crazy. And there is still plenty of awesome atmosphere. And I know people hate it, but some of the quick time events are REALLY thrilling.
There was one scene (not a huge spoiler but just in case you don't want to know anything
where you're on a jet that is crashing, and the person playing Leon has to land the plane with a series of really fast quicktimes, then pull up on the controls, all the while you have a metre ticking down telling you how many feet to go until you crash, Meanwhile, the person playing Helena has to defend the cockpit from dozens and dozens of zombies storming into the cabin. That was awesome
Stuff like that, I don't care if it's not the classic survival horror or if people think quicktime events are lame, THAT felt totally fun and unique to a video game and it was tense as hell. It like a scene STRAIGHT out of a fun action movie.
The best comparison I can give this is Gears of War, and i don't mean that in a bad way, but there is a lot of attention to detail paid, especially when it comes to making the co-op experience enjoyable. Each character handles and feels unique. Leon can dual wield pistols and he and Helena are faster than say Chris and Pierce. Leon gets a knife as a starting weapon but Helena gets a cool Hydra shotgun. Chris might be slower than Leon but he has a better stamina gauge. Pierce has a cool sniper rifle with 2 firing modes whereas Chris has a machine gun. Every character has a cool, unique fighting style, it's sometimes ridiculous but always fun (Like when Chris will pick up a zombie and throw it into the ground so it's head explodes.)
But it does that Gears of War 3 thing really well when, you don't just feel like 'Player 1' and 'Player 2', you feel like real characters going through an experience together.
Another cool touch is, not every character gets the same cut scene. If you split up (which happens a lot in this game for the 2 characters), one character might get a cutscene, say in a boss fight, where the boss is towering over them, taunting them or something, while the other character is watching the whole thing but in real time, from a rooftop with a sniper rifle or something.
I know it's tempting to be disappointed by lame review scores, but trust me, I have played through many co-op action games and action shooters, ranging from good to average to terrible. I've played Kane and Lynch, Army of Two, Gears of War. I am ALWAYS looking for a good co-op game, and i would say this game is a very, very strong co op game.
If you're looking for survival horror, you'll be disappointed. If you want a fun game and you like the RE fiction and universe, you will like this game.
Very, very rarely, and when it does, it's not for long. It's no different to all the games that say 'Press Y to see place of interest' or something, except it just does it for you.
Wolvie could you do me a favor and watch the Gamespot review? That is the one that I feel really put across the lack of gameplay. Could you possibly answer some of those complaints about the gameplay themselves?
Personally not big on QTEs. Button mashing and during a vehicle segment that doesn't feel like you are doing what you are doing doesn't really do it for me.

That is why I am asking Wolvie. Apparently it isn't just the press a button to look at the point of interest. The camera changes your line of sight throughout the game. I am curious if the Gamespot review is being over dramatic in that regard.
Their not all lame review score's. After all GI gave it an high 8 But the person wasn't really in the full know of all things Res as in he didn't play all of them as he admitted.(I don't see any hing wrong with it, though others might ) I'm just waiting on the final reviews, then I'll make up my own mind.
But still they still need to rethink some things and hand it off to another dev studio. cause I think it has indeed lost alot of what made it what it was. They can keep "some of the add on's" but they need some one that will make that work better and better game play mechanic's. The dodgy camera has to go and that can only be done with in another studio. As to the Horror I guess people(gamers and reviewers alike) want it to be overwhelming to them. So it'll be memorable them again . The same can apply it's just time that another Dev studio took over. It seems they don't trust Capcom anymore. So just let them(capcom) be the publishers, they'll still own it any way.
That's not when it happens, usually it's when you enter a new area or after you've cleared an area of enemies, the camera will make you look up at a building that you've got to make your way to or a helicopter that's gonna crash or something like that.
And even then, I can only think of like 2 instances where that has happened for me.
Also, I'll watch that review but i've already half written my own review for my radio show next week and i can guarantee, it will not be as negative as some of these reviews have been.
Okay, I just watched that Gamestop review and i think it's pretty unfair.
The one point I will concede, is there do seem to be a lot more of those 'co-op' doors to open, in between areas, but I guess that's the trade-off with some of these areas being so big and technically demanding.
But the rest of his complaints are ridiculous. The cutscenes are no where near as frequent as he makes them out to be. It hasn't felt any different than any other resident evil game ever has for me in that regard.
Also, his definition of a 'quick time event' seems to be anytime he is prompted to press a button, which is just stupid. Complaining about having to press 'a' to leap over a gap, take cover or having to wiggle the stick in order to shake a zombie off you is just stupid. That isn't interrupting the gameplay, that IS gameplay and if he has a problem with that, I don't know how he enjoys many other games either.
Also, his complaints about 'scripted events interrupting gameplay' is just equally stupid because those segments are the ones that can be most exciting. Sure, if they were hand holding scripted moments that you had no control over, I could understand him having problems with them, but this is resident evil and it does not hold your hand. If you screw up or don't react fast enough, you get treated to a nice, gory cutscene of yourself getting cut in half, decapitated, eaten, turned into a zombie, spider eggs planted in your mouth, etc. There always feels like a consquence is there for failing so I would say, most of those QTE segments end up being more exciting, especially if you play in co-op. It's really thrilling to share those QTE moments. In Leon's campaign, there are moments when one player has to wiggle the stick to throw a zombie off them while the other has to aim the gun at the zombie and pull the trigger without shooting their team mate and it's both tense and very fun.
So yeah, I think that Gamespot reviewer is very jaded and cynical. I mean, has he played Modern Warfare 3? Has he played Gears of War? When he calls this a goofy attempt at imitating an action game, i wonder what action games he is actually referring to, because I think it's quite good.
Now, there might be little things certain people don't like. You might not like co-op or you might hate QTE's, but that doesn't matter, the main thing is, I would say this game gets more right than it gets wrong and that Gamespot review definitely doesn't reflect that.
That's the reason i don't always post game spot reviews any more. IGN a close second depending on the reviewer on it but I have to look carefully at who's reviewing and even then it's rare i put them up. But the latter's more likely of the two.

There are different kinds of scripted bits. The most common one is almost like on the rails shooting or something, in a jeep shooting at a boss from the back or, my personal favourite, sliding backwards down a water pipe while shooting at a mutated zombie shark.
As for the QTE's, I think they're really slickly integrated in with the rest of the action. You've got to be on your guard because they can happen at any time.
Mainly though, they're for any time you have to either dodge attacks, interact with a control panel or something (one example is you frantically trying to hack a door while your partner protects you) or for the things that SUDDENLY happen... Like, walking along and the floor gives out or something like that.
But it doesn't really like it really gets in the way. I mean, first of all, would you complain that the Mass Effect cutscenes get in the way of the game? No, because they're a part of the game. The way they're integrated, it makes dialogue and story on an equal level with any of the combat or walking/running gameplay.
For the most part, RE 6 is exactly the same. So far, the only QTE that annoyed me was in Leon's final boss, towards the end, there's a bit where you have to tap A with super human speed. That was tough on my hand, but at the same time, I kinda liked it too because he was MEANT to be really tough, and I'm pretty sure you can still beat him without the succeeding the QTE, it just takes longer.
So yeah, like I said, if you enjoy co-op action games and you actually give a crap about the RE story, then you'll like this. I mean, I'm an RE fan and I got a huge kick over Leon and Chris interacting, the reference to Claire, Wesker, all that stuff. It's really cool.
And there's one bit, towards the end of Leon's campaign, where i was actually on the edge of my seat. It was really cool. I won't say any more than that, but I really liked the story and all that, and the QTE's and the cinematics help combine that cool, cinematic feel to the action. It never really feels like 'cutscene....action.....cutscene.....action'. It's more like "Oh my god, something could happen at any momen-AH A ZOMBIE SHARK'

You can change your RE5 controls to RE4 controls (Control Type A). That's the only way I play RE5...
Also, people, these aren't the "classic zombies." They're not the T-virus zombies that are slow, shambling, dead, and stupid. These are C-Virus zombies who are more angry, can leap, use weapons, and even aimlessly fire guns. If a zombie is slow, moans, and is emotionless, that's classic. If it's looks angry and screams, leaps five feet, and uses weapons, that's some other kind of zombie.
Then of course there's the J'avo, a different kind of Plagas enemy really.

I wouldn't be surprised if there are some Zombies, who are still holding onto a gun and use them. After all, they use axes and other stuff. If they are smart enough to try and hit you, I'd assume they are smart enough to just pull a trigger.
