Transformers The Reviews Thread

I still can't believe that bay is finally doing a genre film with fantasy comicbooky elements

instead of whining about how unreal martin lawrence is when he jumps through a building...
with Optimus doing it, it's "awesome"

I read all my comic books with a "golden lit" atmosphere
(cept for batman...that's all fincher)

I hope singer sees this

Abyss is generally regarded as his worst film though I've nevah seen it.

actually, i thought The Abyss was pretty decent, the ending just left you hanging. It's safe to say Camerons worst film is Pirahna 2, with the mutant pirahna/flying fish crossbreeds that was shot for 3-d. Its bad, but 80's cheeze bad.

''In terms of sheer spectacle, "Transformers" is a hard film to beat and certainly it looks like every single dollar of its $200 million budget is up there on screen and spent well. Combined with so many cars in display it'll satiate any auto-fetishist or toy-collecting child, a blaring soundtrack and some silly but at times effective light humor - it certainly feels as if it's one of the few movies this Summer that is actually worth the ticket price.''

great review
with plenty of unbiased negatives and positives

I think it's great how he marks the plot and story flaws and places the blame squarely where it's needs to be...often even referring to it as such and such's script!
and then he goes on to say, intsead of creating a lush and new mythology they give us the thin one based on and 80's cartoon show...gotta love the fans

the actions good?
he blame that on the right person as well

ILM has done sh1t in the past...
and the budget on Pirates was double that of Transformers (give or take)

Who's watching the world premiere on webcarpetlive.com?
A poster named bumblebear showed it and I'm onboard of watching it at 7:30 tonight.
Hopefully it's the whole dang, two hours and twenty minutes movie, and not just some "exclusive" preview or clip.

Not that much different than alot of the religions on our planet. People say God created us in his image. In the movie, the Allspark transforms, right? Who's to say whether the Allspark has a will of it's own or is just a discarded artifact from another civilization. Was the creation of the Autobots predetermined or just a random occurance? I think the mystery adds to the allure of the Allspark, at least the movie version.

Meh... I think this is why I'll be quite happy to remain atheist about it, then.

I just don't buy the mysterious element. I like the idea that these things truly are advanced robots that have evolved over millions of years from what may have been an organic race in the early times. You know... like traditional A.I. that gains sentience.

I just think that would work a lot better for the mainstream and free the writers up to more quality, believable stories.

I can only hope this part is completely ignored for part two and they do something more grounded in reality - like stealing Earth's resources to power the war. If done well, that opens the story up to a more humanly-relatable story without necessarily needing a huge cast of humans.

wow this guys review is far more insightful than typical "omg teh sposions teh rulez!!!!1!" reviews.

As a non-Transformers fan he exposes in the film what most "negatrons" feared.

"It's a tough task adapting an 80's children's show into a workable film, yet a real chance to invent a rich and compelling mythology is never even attempted - rather cheap tricks and only a semblance of story to try and link the action sequences together."

"Whereas truly great Summer films get more rewarding on subsequent glances, this packs all its power on the initial viewing and that viewing will please most everyone from fanboys to casual cinemagoers. It's not a movie that you need to see again however, and whilst it'll probably be one of the better films of the season - it ultimately doesn't have the weight let alone staying power to sit fondly in retrospect."

This lack of a strong foundation will hurt the franchise in the long run. The "omg giant robots fighting" novelty will wear off right after people leave the theater. You need more to get the masses to support the franchise like they do other big franchises. FF2 made less than FF1 despite the fact that it's a far superior movie. People just lost interest after the first one. As a result the franchise is now in limbo.

Just looking for dissapointment, aint ya?

I think Bay may have finally turned over a new leaf with this film, well if it's good that is.

Transformers won't make Shia a star nor will it change the minds of Bay's many detractors, but there's no denying that both have delivered something of value here. Granted, "value" is a debased term in the middle of the summer movie season - especially this summer, which has thus far been a steady succession of high-profile disappointments. But Transformers is the event moviegoers have been waiting for.

7.1 out of 10

and you say I have low standards...

catwoman was far superior to the first fantastic four. that movie was pure garbage on top of a pile of dog ****.

Pretty cool webcarpetlive.com broadcast. Michael Bay said this when asked what are the fans who were against you saying now, "Oh, they're saying we're sorry, we're sorry, we're sorry".

as stated before, that's what happens when a flim looks to a shallow 80's cartoon for it's story and foundation elements

if anything it's the non negatrons worst nightmare

pirates 2 did better than the first what's ur point?

Man, I don't know. Catwoman vs FF. I can't rate quality because I DO think both are not very good. I think I would rather rewatch FF if I had to than Catwoman...but that's not saying very much. I don't think you could ever get me to watch Elektra again.

They didn't have to base it off of just the cartoon. They could researched the comics and gotten a lot of personality traits from that seeing as how the bots are more fleshed out. But seeing as how it seems the reviews are stating that only 2 or 3 bots in this movie have any sort of character development, I guess that wasn't really a priority of theirs. And as far as story and settings, there's lots they could have done...they just chose to KISS (keep it simple stupid).

Oh but it had a great script.

Brigman: So raise your hand if you think that was a Russian water-tentacle.

Well cameron's god of sci fi movies... not so sure about his drama and romance.

titanic made all that money because it had boobs in it, probably.

Not to mention at that time all the teeny boppers were drooling and spazzing over Leonardo Decaprio. Oh yeah! It also had a single from whats her face.........Celion Dion I think. I have 3 younger sisters. :woot: One of my sisters saw it like 4-5 times, and a friend of mines sister saw it around 7-8 if you can believe that.:ninja:

wow. you missed the point completely.

It didn't matter if FF2 was far better than FF1.

It still did worse than FF1 at the box office because FF1 was shallow.

TF2 could do worse because TF1 is shallow.

But you guys don't really care if the franchise has legs, right? Just as long as you get 2 hours of explosions with Tyrese in the mix your happy, even if it means the franchise will suffer an early demise.

Can't remember which topic it was in but I basically said the same thing, about where the hell are they going to take the franchise in a sequel.

I am looking forward to this movie, and yes mainly to see the Transformers tear **** up. I'm not as hard core as you and Cflash, but I do know in my head that they better pull some wild and great ideas out of their asses for a sequel to be better and have more depth to it than this one. Otherwise it will just be more of the same but with a few new Transformers involved.

The replies I got were basically people completely missing the point saying things like...they can introduce new characters.

What about the comics? You think they were more shallow than a boy trying to get laid while Megatron looks for magical glasses?

Even the most adamant Bay apologist can't be that stubborn.

no, the dark horizons review confirms what we feared the most.

Most people loved the first POTC. Based on the above review "[Transformer] ultimately doesn't have the weight let alone staying power to sit fondly in retrospect."

But you don't care if the franchise suffers an early death because the first one was a big giant spectacle without anything else. Do you?

Just looking for dissapointment, aint ya?

yeah we covered this already. I stated:

"I simply pointed out the part of the review that worried me. I'm not here just to be a Bay cheerleader. I'm a skeptic who demands more from a TF movie than explosions and flashy effects. Of course I'm going to analyze what the movie is lacking and how it can be improved upon."
