The Amazing Spider-Man 2 The Rhino: Suit Vs. Cross-Species

Which version of The Rhino should they use?

  • A Cross-Species

  • A robotic suit, ala USM

  • A mixture of genetic and cybernetic enhancements ala 616

  • If possible, a brand new interpretation

I prefer the suit if Rhino is a mobster. Rhino goes to deal with someone; they get belligerent. Rhino suits up, makes examples for his contemporaries and leaves. If Alexei is dangerous as his tattoos indicate, I would be alright with him leading the Sinister Six.

hate to break it to you, but it looks like he's the same angry dufus as he is in the comics. He's dangerous, but a complete block head. (hell that much is evident with spidey de-pantsing him and his Rhino Boxers......

he's not a leader. Never was, and never should be. That's not who the character is.

He's a blockhead because of his choice of underwear? Not saying he's the Brain, but it's not like there are no smart or regular people with weird fashion senses.

Based off the expressions that we have in the set pics, he looks like a very violent, very clueless man.

Violent, indeed. I never get the clueless part though. Heck, the uber nerd Max Dillon looks more clueless. Giamatti delivers some great intensity and I never get the impression that he's the same clueless idiot from the comics. I would actually prefer if this is a new interpretation. He's an idiot in 616, a egghead in Ultimate, let's find a nice middle ground. I'd like to see him to be a force to be reckoned with, and don't fall for silly tricks like running into walls.

You have a point but I wanna see Rhino/Aleksei still have that unbright quality to him. It's not who he is 100% of the time but he's kind of known for that.
So I hope Webb keeps that quality somehow, but I see what you're saying as well. He should be dangerous and since Webb is trying to ground this universe, I think he'll handle that aspect fine. We'll see.

i suspect spidey trolls him big time if judging by recent pictures, which angers him so when he becomes rhino he is out to crush spiderman

Haha yeah most definitely. #1 target. Have you seen those facial expressions?? Haha

His face work is priceless already just from the photos. "Giamatti rage" is a beauty to behold.

it's not his choice in underwear, but the composition of the scene... you seriously going to tell me he's going to be viewed as a major threat when spider-man just depants'd him and he's got brightly colored underwear? that's an ole slapstick gag. it's never used on a "serious" villain.

I imagine Spider-Man will make a fool of Aleksei. That YT video about his tattoos got me thinking that Aleksei might retaliate and live up to the reputation of those tattoos. That is what my whole idea hinges on. If it don't happen, then we've got a mook with an interesting background.

I think Rhino can work just fine on the big screen. I think its best for him to wear armor though, rather than be transformative. A rhino costume would look pretty awesome. If they can make Bane work on the big screen, who is kind of a big thuggy character, I'm sure they can make Rhino work.

you mean like Whiplash lived up to his tattoos?

Tattoos often enough are also just to make someone look more intimidating. Don't suspect their honestly to be much more detail than that.

Rhino leading the Sinister Six is beyond rediculous

... that comparison doesn't work considering Bane "hardly" looked like Bane

I'd like something like this suit-wise for Rhino, although it would appear cross-species is more likely...

I don't even care how well the cross-species would fit in the story, I'm sure that a competent screen-writer could make it work great with a suit

depends if it works in webbs universe or if they want the villians connected to peters parents, and obviously the serum would be, because its cross species and peters dad was working on something spider related, and most likely one of these spiders are what gave peter his powers which is pretty much cross species in some way or another and richard parker was working with dr connors and he was trying to find a cure for osborn

we know the Rhino will be huge and the serum made lizard big so im sure it could make rhino huge, otherwise it has to be a slightly smaller iron monger suit

at the moment i'm suspecting its likely to be this approach

Hmm let's see. Have Rhino, who will be a SIDE villian, be cross species, allowing for him to be better connected to the story and spend less time crafting an origin for him, allowing for more room for the movie as a whole to breathe or have a suit just because, and have to introduce an entirely new thing, possibly making the story more convulated and left-field. Simplicity is the key to writing, they seem to be juggling with enough as is to worry about some whiny fanboys who want a suit, when it makes NO difference at all. If the suit is permanent then they can make the serum permanent. If the suit wouldn't be permanent, then the serum could work like how it did with Dr. Connors, Rhino could change back to human form. It's not "lazy", if Rhino was the main villian then I'd understand, but he isn't. He's a side villian.

What if we see something like Aleksei stealing a rhino serum, but spidey thwarting him before he takes it. Kidof as a nod to Rhino without having to deal with him looking rediculous or actually being anything.

Agreed. It just makes more sense and goes well with the series theme... Rather than placing PG in a rubber suit with a horn.

Who said anything about putting Paul G in a rubber suit? Don't belittle people's desire for a mech suit simply because you want to see cross-species Rhino.

I'd prefer not to go the cross species, but admit it does make sense for this universe. After The lizard's plan was thwarted, the cat is pretty much out of the bag at Oscorp - people have a good idea of the kinds if things the company does, and naturally, shady characters would want a piece of that, hiring Paul G to steal it.

They could even go a step further and have Norman secretly hire him to steal under those pretenses; in an attempt to stage a confrontation between Spidey and this new serum.
