The Amazing Spider-Man 2 The Rhino: Suit Vs. Cross-Species

Which version of The Rhino should they use?

  • A Cross-Species

  • A robotic suit, ala USM

  • A mixture of genetic and cybernetic enhancements ala 616

  • If possible, a brand new interpretation

he told conan in an interview before tasm1 came out that he always wanted to play the rhino and had been a fan of the character since he was young. i think it might be up on youtube somewhere, albeit in poor quality.

That's cool, not just a "fan" once he'd gotten the role.

You're not saying you still expect cross-species are you?

I'm thinking it would look a little different if they were going for that. And we'd probably see some sort of makeup and prosthetic in conjunction. Unless you're just saying, the suit will look cooler than styrofoam, in which case i agree.

I have a HINT that we'll be seeing cross-species again. Why do I have a hint? Because we already had a cross-species in the first film. BUT how can I be sure? I can't.

All that I KNOW is that the reference shape is not exactly a preview of the CGI finished product.

Man I need to spend more time on the boards, I keep missing things like this! Yes mechanical all the way!!!

I fear that he will look like a guy in some mech suit like this and not Rhino at all

I hope he will have the horn at least.

Whatever he is, he is going to be huge. My word.

A full shot of the setup. Rhino is going to be huge. I'm curious as to why Giamatti doesn't have his forehead tattoo....clearly we're gonna see his face based on the expressions he's making.

Now I'm pretty sure He will be mech.

These boards continue to fascinate me.
You would think after the slate of superhero movies from the last 10-12 years, we would have learned our lesson about wild speculation based on public set pics.
We (and I have been as guilty of this as anyone else here) even forget things from "Movie Making 101" like the fact that most movies are not filmed in anything resembling chronological order...
Even with this latest picture set, we know nothing other than it shows PG inside some "possibly-could-be" vaguely mechanical shell.
That's all we know.
A poster commented on the dialogue from Spider-Man, referencing a "hippo".
We've also seen PG's character in a fight for some sort of liquid in a high-tech vial.
Possibly some sort of genetic serum? Who knows.

So I did my best guess work...
The "mech" scenes are earlier in the movie than the scenes of PG driving the truck, and the scenes of him holding the gun and vial (the scene where he gets pantsed by SM). So at one point PG's character, who is a criminal, has a mech suit he uses to commit whatever crime(s). I can see this being very early in the first act. Spider-Man stops him, saves the day.
(At this point, I'm simply going to refer to PG's character as Rhino.)
So Rhino sits in jail, but is visited by the same mysterious figure that visited Dr. Connors in ASM. The mysterious figure offers to help Rhino in exchange for him taking SM out, as SM is getting closer to discovering the truth about his parents, and this mysterious person has something to do with their disappearance. (This is where Rhino gets the forehead tattoo, btw, in jail)
Rhino agrees. The mysterious figure asks him if he liked the power he had in the mech suit, asks him if wants it for real, ect.He is either busted out of jail, or escapes himself, goes to wherever the serum is located, steals it. He is stopped by SM again, with the added humiliation of the dropped pants.
Rhino manages to get his hands on the serum again, drinks it/snorts it/injects it/puts in an enema of mild soapy water. He is then transformed into the organic Rhino.

BTW, the Wikipedia entry for ASM2 says the villain for this movie was teased in ASM.
Could anyone enlighten me as to what specifically the entry refers to?

Oh we do have a certain insider information on this, which basically says it's gonna be mech-suit, with organic elements to it.

1.) It's Wikipedia, so yeah.
2.) They teased Norman Osborn and they teased the "man in the shadows."

We don't KNOW anything other than that's what the insider said.
How much insider info has to be proven wrong before we learn to to take it with a metric ton of salt?

There are like little hints Marc threw in here and there. For example, in Dr. Connor's office, you can see a frames photo of a lightning strike. It's pretty clear in shots of him talking with Dr. Rathe about using the serum.

That's what I've been fearing as well. We just have to wait. At least spidey calls him a hippo, so we know it at least resembles a rhino. I'm pretty sure there'll be a horn.

I wouldn't be surprised if the "main villain" is actually Norman.

we don´t know if his forehead will /won´t be covered because we havn´t seen the design

He's full on acting in the black suit and he has no forehead tattoo. Maybe they are different points in time. This suit could be earlier in the film.

no electro is the main villian, there is no point norman being the main villian in this film if he ends up being the villian for TASM3

I think you misunderstand. Norman probably really is "the main villain" of this film even if we don't find out till the end of it or not until the third. Over all i think he will be the "main villain" or "big bad" of the entire trilogy.

Electro will just be the central villain "show-cased" villain if you will, of this film.

I don't know, it looks like Rhino gets a pretty big part in the movie as well. I'm betting Rhino and Electro will both act as "central villains" with Norman being the real main villain.

Speaking of which, I hope we get scenes of Rhino and Electro together teaming up to beat Spidey towards the end of the film.

Other way I could see it working is - it seems Max and Spidey kinda team up. Max thinks they do anyway.

Perhaps gets his powers, helps Spidey take down Rhino but goes too far - Spidey stops him killing him, embarrassing him in front of loads and from there the villany starts.

We'll see.

Really looking forward to how it all pans out!

Keep in mind we only really know two scenes Rhino is in.... His rampage and the car chase.

There doesn't appear to be any personal side information for rhino like electro has... With his apartment and what not. I think its pretty clear electro is more of a focus than rhino so far
