It's been set that the roster in the first film is

-Cap
-Iron Man
-Thor
-Hulk
-Widow
-Hawkeye

w/ Fury leading the charge behind the scenes with SHIELD.

The best part of the film is that its not so overly crowded that you get lost and get to have these moments with everyone and it not feeling like a clusterf--k.

Ok...so sequel time, are we looking at only adding ONE new name (Ant-Man if it ever gets done in time) or would you be good to see the original line up stay for the sequel and thats it, nobody new but villians.

Add Dr.Pym. He doesn't even need to have a code name.

I would like to see another hero added to the list. Who? Don't know because my Avengers knowledge goes as far and is deep as Captain America shows up in issue #3.

I think The Avengers was pretty close to the limit of how many characters you can include and still have them be featured. I'd be disappointed if any of the current heroes got less time to shine than in the first movie. If anything I would have liked to see a couple more scenes with a few of them.

The only one I can see leaving is BW due to her being a "spy" and all, people seem to forget that when discussing the roster.

But if that happens we're probably "stuck" with getting another female character. Whedon wouldn't be OK with doing the Avengers without a female hero.

If there were to be another addition I think Ant-Man would be my preferred choice. Black Panther is also a candidate. Both are of course male so it's unlikely to see them included through a switch.

You do know than Hank and Jan come as a pair right, that's a simple solution for the female problem.

Yes, but then we get into the problem of having more characters than before. Not that I think it's impossible to do, but it will be harder to maintain the quality.

If they can get it to work, I'll be happy to see more good characters. I just feel that if anything I'd want a scene or two more for Cap and Thor in the first movie and less would disappoint me.

I'd add the pyms and maybe Black Panther. The roster from the current cartoon is pretty perfect.

There will be no Selvig or Coulson and you can have BW's role lessened while introducing Jan and Hank.

As I said in another thread despite liking both characters, Black Widow and Hawkeye really didn't add anything to the movie, so I would be totally fine if they didn't even return in the next movie. Plus I don't really care for ScarJo as Black Widow.

I think it would be a total home run if they added the Vision and Scarlet Witch with them replacing Black Widow and Hawkeye.

No additions IMO. Go with this roster for 3 movies.

Get rid of Hulk and Thor for the next film, bring in Ant-man, Wasp and Spider-woman (played by Summer Glau).
Banner can move over to the Iron Man series, and Thor can be pre-occupied with the events of Thor 2. Don't bring any heavy-hitters into the series this time, and don't bring in Thanos quite yet. Whedon said it will be smaller, more personal. I'd like to see Ultron, and his rebellion against his "father".

The Avengers III can bring Thor and Hulk back, with Captain Marvel and Ms. Marvel appearing. If a new Fantastic Four film is released before then, bring them in too, and maybe Spider-man if possible. They can be extended cameos. It's the end of a trilogy, and this is where Thanos should attack with the Skrulls, and the Kree come to aid the Earth.

I want these films to feel like the event comics, like Secret Invasion or Civil War. Huge crossover events that change the status quo of the film universe.

That's....really bad. Getting rid of half the team that audience love to bring in newcomers? Not gonna happen.

I say keep the roster as is for next movie, introduce Pym with Coulson/Selvig's screentime.

That's all.

The roster for the Avengers changes all the time in the comics, why not in the films?

I'll add 2 characters out of these people; Doctor Strange, Ant-Man, Black Panther and Wasp.

In Avengers 2, you don't need to waste time on backstory for the six carryover characters at all. You can easily introduce 2-3 new Avengers --- and if they debut in solo films before Avengers 2 releases, there's even less backstory to plow through --- so there's plenty of opportunity for a bigger roster to work just fine. The Dirty Dozen and Ocean's Eleven (and Twelve....and Thirteen....) doubled that size and still did an awesome job of building up their respective teams. Wouldn't hurt the storyline or characterization a bit to throw in 2-3 new recruits.

Hank Pym's obvious; but if you add him, you *need* to add Wasp as well. Like someone said above, Hank and Janet are a package deal, period. Then you could add one more.....say, Black Panther or Ms. (Capt.) Marvel.

Sounds about right.

The no brainer is Hank Pym. Hank doesn't need an origin movie. Just quickly introduce him and be done with it. Janet needs to come with though but that's really pushing the limit of necessary characters though.
I'd like Ms. Marvel but too many characters now.

I would have Hank Pym come in, but in the role of Rhodes from Iron Man 1 (aka very limited + no fighting). Maybe work with Banner on a some type of science crap, lol.

Keep the movies like the comics -- aka 7 Avengers maximum. :)

I think they could add two new superhero characters, one at the beginning of the film and one at the end. But they would need to kill off one or two Avengers to keep the 'weight' of the film so it's not just cartoon happy time with no consequences.

Hank, afaik, isn't available for Avengers. I would add Black Panther at the beginning, assuming he's had a solo movie, and Vision at the end, assuming the villain is Ultron. I would kill off Hawkeye and Thor because they died in the comics for a while recently... and Thor can come back, at least to finish his trilogy, through some other realm or whatever, theoretically.

I don't think anyone should be a movie Avenger unless a) they have a solo movie or b) They have no powers. Avengers movies have too many characters to service to waste any time explaining someone's powers.

Killing off Thor after one Avengers film?....no, just no I'd walk out of the theater and never support another MS film again.
