Last, but not least!

The new song in ROTJ is bad, but it's not as bad as Lapti Nek. I think Sy Snootles' CGI should be updated, and that this guy should be removed completely:

STUPID! I hate when he comes right to the camera and you see inside his mouth. It just sucks.

A completely pointless addition was showing Oola falling into the pit... Seriously, WTF was the point?

The Rancor scene always looked fake, so I was glad they fixed it. It's still not perfect, but the change was worthwhile.

I never liked the living beak thing inside the pit. It's very poor CGI, but aside from that, I like the idea of it being a living pit, not something living in the pit... Whatever, I just don't like the change that much.

The ending celebration is cool since you can see how everyone responded to the fall of the empire, but having Tatooine shown in jubilation makes no sense. Tatooine is controlled by the Hutts and the Empire had no interest in the planet "farthest from the bright center of the universe".

And gungans in the OT DOESN'T WORK!!!!!! I have no problem seeing Naboo, though. Wish it looked slightly different.

And finally...

Ugh... If he HAD to be there, did he have to look so dark and creepy?!

In the end, I wish they just cleaned up the old FX. All of the additions are completely unnecessary.

I think people should start getting banned for starting topics like this. You damn well what is going to happen in here.

Exactly. Plus, why couldn't you have put all of the changes in one thread? Rather than making a separate one for each film?

is that hayden as anakin as the spirit on the last picture?

Yeah. I think they also added him to the unmasking of Vader. So lame.

there goes me ever buying the dvd's

I hate all of the changes and think they suck.

Who cares if the sand pit didn't look all that great. That's part of why it's awesome!

Movies like this don't have to be totally flawless in that way. Haven't you guys ever heard of the expression "warts and all?" Or "love you for your flaws?"

The fact that they are so unnecessary depresses me.

^ I agree with that to an extent, because let's face it we all know the OT special effect are rubbish compared to now days standards, but with the incredible technology we do have today why not improve on things that NEED improving. By need i mean, not replace characters with their prequel counterparts, thats not needed at all, but why not make the sand pit to what Lucas may have imagined when originally creating it, and was unable to fufill due to costs, I think something like that can only add to the movie.

But yes, i agree, star wars timeless charm has nothing to do with it's special effects,it's all about the heart and characters

I don't think ANYTHING should be changed, besides the quality of the picture or sound.

They're films, not toys. Once they're finished, stop playing with them and let them be what they're meant to be.

You have to remember the whole special edition thing is pretty much for lucus. He was never competely happy with how some of the effects turned out mostly attributed to the lack of money at the time and technology. All those years later he suddenly has the tools and resources to enhance what he originally had to settle for. I'm not saying he should have done it but I really can't blame him for wanting to flesh out the movie to match what he originally imagined in his head.

^ bunk, your right lucas did make them for himself, but if that wouldn't of been his intention than we may of got a decent PT

No, he did it to make money. Sure, maybe he wanted to add some more things to his originals, but he's been adding things for years! I have a VHS set with added effects and such from the 90s.

He has to realize that he did something right with these movies, since they are some of the most famous films ever made. While they do have many flaws, the flaws are nothing that CGI can fix.

If he wanted to go CGI crazy some more, he should've made the few humans in the prequels completely CGI, to make the movies full cartoons. But leave your old babies alone already, George.

The other f*** up is the fact they basically used the special editions to test ILM cg in preparation for the prequels, rendering them completely obsolete in the process.

CG Sarlacc = tentacles OK, minus the beak

Removal of "Yub-Yub" = Fine with me

Scenes of various planets celebrating the destruction of the Death Star II = Pretty cool, minus the later addition of Naboo and the Gungans

Every other ROTJ Special Edition change can get flushed, IMO. :down

This isn't Soviet Russia :o

Because these movies are a product of their times.

There's no point in changing them.

Should Merian Cooper's estate go back and make the doll in King Kong a CG one?

When I was watching Jedi as a kid or when Jedi came out, I don't think people were *****ing about the Sarlacc pit.

Replacing Sebastian Shaw's ghost with a ghost of Hayden Christensen was an insult.

The stuff that becomes a more obvious error when transferred to DVD, like black matte lines that in a theater back in the 80s wouldn't be that noticable but on a digital display today is an eye-sore, those I don't mind them fixing. It's more of a restoration thing I guess. But yeah, adding a bunch of cgi this and that, and replacing an actor is truly unnecessary. But I like the new john williams score for the end, always have. It's a cool song for that scene.

But I think the point was that Anakin always had good in him and when he threw the emperor away he finally earned his right to become a force ghost like Obi-wan and Yoda did. So then he comes back looking like a fresh pimptastic jedi as he would have been if he never went to the dark side. Not reversing back to that angst ridden child killer version of himself... he should have come back as a midichlorian instead.

It's strange though, seeing Luke finally redeem his father - who returns in spirit form as a young man. Luke has just been talking to his dad as a middle-aged man on the Death Star, then he sees him (his ghost form) on Endor, no older than Luke himself is.

I think Lucas has actually messed up the Joseph Campbell rules there slightly.

how would luke even know that was his father??

True, but who else would it be with Yoda and Obi-Wan? I think it's reasonable that Luke would recognise him, or just realise it was him.

It's stupid crap to me.

Why didn't they just put in CG Yoda and Ewan McGregor Obi-Wan, as well as Qui Gonn Jinn?

Maybe he saved those so he can put them in later dvds and blue rays and HD dvds so he can make even more money from stupid star wars fans who don't know when to quit.

...........

And on a lighter note, Return of the Jedi is actually my favourite Star Wars film.
