I like the fixed FX. I never realized how much they changed in the Hoth battle. I also like how most of the garbage mattes were removed.

I hate the added scenes, though. The new Emperor scene makes no sense and Vader going to his shuttle is so unnecessary. I also hate the fact that Temura Morrison re-recorded Fett's dialogue!

The new Cloud City is fine. I like how they opened it up more.

The outside appartment now matches the interior. Much better!

I like that, too. Seeing Fett's ship from the window and such...

Awful. Looks nothing like ROTJ emperor. The lines make no sense either!

Not that he looked at all like ROTJ Emperor in the 1980 version either. :o

And he looked like ROTJ emperor before?:o

Five year old: Jinx. :D

:(

In any case, I do like the 2004 changes as well. That's really all Lucas should've done in the 97 versions.

No, but if they want to improve it, do it right!

I think part of it has to do simply with the fact of how McDiarmid himself has aged and changed facially over the years.

Granted, with how much he loves CGI, you'd think Lucas would've been able to replicate the ROTJ Emperor somehow...

The obvious problem is the hood. In RotJ, the hood was smaller and straighter. All they needed to do with the 2004 update was give him the original hood and pull it down over his face so we couldn't tell the make up was any different.

The problem is the mask. The ROTJ mask should have been replicated for it. Instead they used the "younger" ROTS version.

But the dialogue really kills it. It makes no sense.

which actually looks older, and cheaper.

funnily enough, looks even less like ROTJ-Ian than Clive Revill.

can some one post what lines were changed? i don't remember them being redone.

The Clive Revill Emperor was a more impressive villain than the Ian McDiarmid Emperor.

The only change that really bugged me in ESB was how they changed Boba Fett's voice for the recent release. I mean c'mon, WTF? His dad died when he was like 8 years old, so where the heck would he have picked up an accent that keeps him sounding like the Croc Hunter? He old voice was way better and despite what George Lucas might believe, it would not create any continuity errors if he'd left it un-changed.

Return of the Jedi didn't have too many changes that got me too irritated, except that in the newest version Lucas decided to eff it up by changing Anakin's Jedi spirit at the end to Hayden Christensen. Once again, WTF? In an attempt to fix what he percieved as a logic gap (which wasn't there to begin with), Lucas only messed it up and the logic he used to justify it is so convoluted I can't even repeat it without tripping over my own words. And really, seeing Sebastian Shaw as the reformed Anakin was one of the defining moments of seeing Return of the Jedi when I was growing up, and to see it removed and replaced with something else made me feel violated.

So basically, if I had to pick one change that irritates me in each of the three special editions, it would be as so:

IV: Greedo/Han shoots first
V: Boba Fett's voice
VI: Sebastian Shaw vs. Hayden Christensen

If Lucas would just change those three things back to the way they were pre-special edition, the only complaints I'd have with the SEs would be petty and mundane.

I really hate these annoying changes to the first three movies. Hope I can buy the original three movies untouched on DVD before Christmas.

You better hurry. They are only around for a "limited time".

Did they really dub over Boba Fett's voice with Temuera Morrison? Good God, where does it end?

if you hate the changes on the special editions so much dont buy them.

i guess lucas is trying to fill anyloose ends or gaps to connect the movies perfectly.

right. his eyes look weird. I'll give you that. doesn't mean that:

a) the rest doesn't look close enough to Ian

b) that the new one isn't weird and COMPLETELY different from ROTJ not only in the eyes, but all over.

ian looks like ian......

quarter guy doesnt......

PERIOD...lol

Well said Vision. Well said :)

Yeah, because there are the originals out there on DVD right now to buy.

Ok, end sarcasm. I know the originals are coming, but from what I understand the audio and video quality will be substandard, which is extremely disappointing.

all the OT dvds are going to be is laser disc rips essentially, which I already have :o
