The RPG Concept Thread

It wouldn't last. My suggestion? Hope that a VG RPG reemerges, and pick up a MK character in there.

I figured as much, but my reasoning is that since Get Violent was so flawed, that there would be no way to remake it with a concept that makes sense, but with an RPG focusing on a single games universe (i.e. MK), then it would be much simpler and the concept would make sense since it's a pre-established world.

...except that I think you'll be hard-pressed to find enough people who give a damn about the MK Universe exclusively.

I'd join an MK RPG for the record.

I'd much rather see a Metal Gear RPG done well but that's not going to happen any time soon.

This I understand, and if it weren't for this statement being true, I'd probably make an application, but instead, I think I'll use this thread to ask how we can make a new Video Game RPG that makes sense and would end up being less flawed. I.E. How would you make it? What would be your premise for it? Rules? Applications? Because I think if we all worked together to create it, it would A) have a greater to survive longer, and B) might inspire more interest in players who didn't play it before to take part in playing the new version.

Base it around MK then. Outworld begins to merge with the various video game worlds causing them to roll into one and the inhabitants have to enter the tournament to save their respective worlds. It's an idea for Season I's plot anyway, not a great one but an idea all the same.

I've never liked the prospect of the Video Game RPG, or the TV and Movies RPG. Seeing stuff like Darth Vader fighting the Mask and Happy Gilmore, or stuff along those lines, just never appealed to me.

Vader can't be in the RPG. There's a Star Wars one already.

I'm working on a concept for the Multi-Media type RPG. Should have a thread up on it soon.

Okay, but you get my drift. To take another example, reading about Solid Snake fighting alongside Pikachu and Crash Bandicoot, or things like that, is something I just find kind of weird and foolish.

BTW, the Mutli-Media discussion thread is up.

Okay, I have a proposition for those who would be interested. Fantasy is the one genre that RPGs should always have a foothold in, given fantasy is what started the whole RPG movement. However, we were unable to keep Gods & Men running. Some of that fault lies with all of us, except for Johnny. I had trouble posting some times, as did everyone else in that game. Part of the problem in my part was that with Fantasy RPGs I'm more used to the traditional DM guided storyline. For that I have a solution.

I am willing to DM a structured Dungeons & Dragons Campaign for anyone who is interested. Most likely we would be running under 3.5 Edition rules, as two of the people I'm hoping will go in for this have yet to try 4th Edition.

The biggest problems we had with G&M were that we had very few people who posted. That will be reversed with this RPG. There will be a limit to the number of players that can be in a campaign at once. Would anyone be interested in this?

I don't know, I like the concept, but how would you deal with all the ability checks, attacks, and general rolls of the dice?

Wasn't it already clear that only like...3 posters here (you, JB, and SF) are big D&D buffs? Making another Fantasy RPG where you have to be even more aware with the D&D world may not be a good idea.

I know that two out of those three are VERY willing to teach new players. I'm sure the third is as well. No one can get into a game without learning and having three well experienced players and resources is a very good introduction. I have PDFs I can send to anyone wanting to learn the rules, and I'm availible to help anyone who wants to try. Its not going to be epic level multi-classed rulebook crunching. It will be a beginner friendly FUN campaign.

Make that four.

I'll think about a D&D type game. Depends on my free time.

Also, is G&M dead? I always meant to look into it.

Glad to see some interest. The PDFs I have that would help are The Player's Handbook and D&D for Dummies.
