Does this start them off as infants? I know the movie made it impossible for them to do a sequel with the same characters in the epilogue but how do you do a prequel to this movie? And why?

20th Century Fox is reportedly at work on a prequel to the iconic 1990s baseball film “The Sandlot” with the film’s original director and writer, David Mickey Evans and Austin Reynolds respectively, returning to pen it.
The original followed the antics of a crew of kids who accidentally sacrifice a Babe Ruth-signed baseball to the neighborhood dog. Plans come on the heels of the original’s 25th anniversary with the project is said to be in advanced development.

No word on the storyline or if any of the original actors like Tom Guiry, Chauncey Leopardi, Brandon Quintin Adams, Shane Obedzinski, Victor DiMattia, Marty York and Grant Gelt will return in some capacity.
Dark Horizons

The only "prequel" I can see coming out of The Sandlot is the story of James Earl Jones's character when he was a young baseball player before he went blind.

Jesus Christ. Now we're getting into 90's nostalgia.

If I hear one more kid talk about how Smalls is killing them....

They haven't made a new good baseball movie in a while. I'd rather they create something from scratch, even if hits the same notes as every other sports underdog movie.

That's pretty much the only way to go with this but it's still completely unnecessary.

That's nothing new, '90s nostalgia has been going on since the beginning of this decade.

Maybe it's a story about the kids before the other kid showed up? That's the only thing that makes any sort of sense of me.

But then you'd be recasting anyways, so what's the point?
