The seven films considered for Oscar F/X nominations!

So?

It looks the best out of the nominees.

But it was nothing special. Look at Davy Jones in Pirates 2. Now, that deserves an Oscar!

The effects on Saphira in Eragon were good and the best part of the movie but its D.M.C all the way. Davy Jones is a lock in for this. Superman Returns does not come close for me. In my opinion the best film of the year is Blood Diamond thats in the race. Borat yuck. Babel Ok. Departed good as well. I hope the oscars put Blood Diamond in where the Globes did not.

Pirates of the Carribean 2 will probably get it. Didn't notice any SFX in Casino Royale when I went to see it though

DMC, anyone could do an earthquake or a ship sinking...but what they did with Davy Jones and his crew...it is the first time I forgot CGI was CGI.

I guess POTC2, SR and X3 will get nominated.

POTC2 is going to win this award

Pirates wins.

runner-up: Superman

I think the de-aging of Stewart and McKellen is in with a shot. Not an overwhelming effect, but it was something new, and was well done.

X3 and POTC2 both deserve it...... DAVY JONES and the youth program for X3 were incredibly revolutionary.

SR effects dont deserve ****

X3's SFX were great but SR's wasn't?? Yeah, wonderful logic as always. You could practically see the cable when Wolverine is powerballed into the poor excuse for a Sentinel.

X3 doesn't deserve ****.

The plane sequence in SR alone pretty much b***hslaps any effect from X3.

Pirates 2: DMC FTW, by the way.

It doesn't matter which movie anybody liked better. Pirates 2 was, and still is judging by it's DVD sales, way too popular to pass up for this type of award just like Spider-Man 2 was. And yes the Matrix beat StarWars episode 1 even though it was far more popular but this seniro is a different story, because the Matrix was a Surprise hit turn classic with SFX that hadn't been seen in a film before and even if you love SR, it was a way underperforming movie that bearly had any eye poping effect shots. People who did VFX didn't even know rather Davy Jones was a complete CGI creation until ILM said so. It is the most ground breaking effect of the year and should easily win because of that and the billion dollars and the 10.5million DVD's sold in it's first week.

The oscars like to throw movie goers a bone and this will be that bone. I also suspect it will garner a nom for lead actor, costume design, cinematograthy and anyother little award I'm forgetting.

LOL. Sorry, but DVD sales has NOTHING to do with Oscars. How can you even bring that up? :whatever: Once more, you demonstrate your lack of knowledge on anything. Looks like another attempt by you to insert some jab at SR.

it was a way underperforming movie that bearly had any eye poping effect shots.

You're insane.

I was using the DVD sales to point out how popular the movie was, ofcourse when it comes too awards like best picture and major acting noms the oscars rarely go for anything with big boxoffice no matter how good it is but VFX effects are something completely different and I think I explained myself pretty well, you just disagree because you can't stand the fact that SR wasn't be all and end all for moviegoers and that it did underpreform be time.

I look at the oscars as a fun little thing to predict and in the case of the VFX winner this year, I just gave great reasons why Pirates is a virtual lock to win unless Night at the Musem breaks out.

I'd hardly go as far as saying that Worthy. The SR plane sequence was great but so too was the Golden Gate Bridge sequence, Phoenix vs. Xavier, Phoenix destruction in Alcatraz, Xavier and Magneto de-aging among others in X3! I think X3, SR and POTC 2 all deserve to be nominated but POTC 2 will most likely win.

Well, last time I checked, this was a discussion about awards, not popularity, and you couldn't resist your usual bit of negativity. It was out of left field and totally useless to the discussion.

Besides, SR made its goal and we get a sequel, which will hopefully be a lot better than SR and get closer to the vision of a true Superman movie that I think Singer has on the tip of his mind. He needs to ditch the writers though.

I know it's going to get it, and I know it was "breakthrough" but it still looked fake as hell. I prefer my effects unnoticable, and still believe the best of the CGI to be in, say, Jurassic Park.

No Fountain? That's pretty f**ked.

In wasn't easy fx, it took more ingenuity, rather than more money, and it was utterly beautiful.

Don't blame the academy. If I'm not mistaken, the film makers turn the movies in for consideration so the makers of The Fountain do not want it considered for best special effects.

I thought X3 had the only one good CGI-scene, bridge sequence.

What about SR, are you really sure that you saw this movie it? There was plane scene and earthquake. But also the best one was with Superman holding land.

Did it not get turned in?

Either way, I'd have to agree, if we are judging effects on their "breakthroughs" then The Fountain definately deserved it. It was an entirely new effect, much like the original "bullet time" in the Matrix.
