I would have preferred Norrid but I'm a sucker for female superheroes/supervillains in Marvel movies. So I'm interested to see her.

And I'm wondering how is the Silver Surfer to going to look like compare to the Fox version. Fox nailed the look in the 2007 movie. I think they would look the same, visual effects wise but I can see Marvel Studios doing something unexpected to differentiate it to the Fox version.

I almost forgot that was still happening... hasn't been much updates/ or rumors about it in a while

so, it was easy to think of it as just a false scoop of that time

I'll be intersted to see the first actual image or footage of what they have instored for this character

It could be a smaller role compare to the 2007 Silver Surfer. :ss:

Plenty of major characters to introduce in First Steps.

Her reveal in the trailer is going to stir up the fandom.

I'd rather get Norrin Radd over Shalla-Bal for the MCU. Norrin's sacrifice is huge and compelling, but as long as they leave room or explain he was it first I'll be ok. There's going to be a really loud group of people who complain simply because she's female though. . . .

I'm not happy about the change, but there's no use getting angry about it. I'm assuming it was changed because they want to do something different with this version. Also, Shalla Bal typically gets pushed into the background in Silver Surfer stories, so I imagine they wanted to expand her character and give her more agency.

Garner's version looked OK. She has big silver curly hair. She also says, "Your planet is marked for death."

I haven't seen what she looks like as Silver Surfer, so I'm hoping she's included in the 2nd trailer.

Silver Surfer looks okay. Its always going to be hard to make it look so much better than the 2007 SS.

Ms. Silver looks fierce though.

Hard almost 20 years later? She should at least be looking ON PAR

She seemed a bit meh but I guess it was a short trailer. Anyway we’ll see

Fox perfected the look. Even with time, its not something that they could easily top or at least look on par. Marvel Studios can bit a miss sometimes. Its not amazing but without the 2007 comparison, its still alright.

No idea how good her character will be. But wow...that visual is bad. We're 20 years out from Rise of the Silver Surfer. I don't care if Fox had the greatest digital artists in human history working for them. This is not good. If they thought this was good enough for the trailer I can't imagine how bad she was looking before now.

Best of luck to the actress. Hopefully the voice work will overshadow the visuals. I guess we'll see what happens with her character. Not expecting any nod or mention of Norrin Radd. They've got a lot to tackle in this movie after all.

I’m sure that by the time the movie opens, her look will be much improved. And it won’t be the first time either.

Like many fans with only casual knowledge of the comics and past films from Marvel and Fox, she assumed the Silver Surfer was a male character—but then admitted, “I was just like, ‘Okay, well, I’ll play anything.'”

It helped that she was already a “big fan” of Fantastic Four director Matt Shakman. “There was already, in my mind, like, ‘I should probably meet with Matt Shakman because he’s a very smart director and I love his work.’ And then he was explaining to me that [the film’s Silver Surfer is] actually Shalla-Bal and that whole thing.”

Garner learned more about this version of the Silver Surfer after reading the script for the film, though she couldn’t reveal too much. “It’s going to be really interesting … it was described as, there’s this mystery about her, and there’s this sense of this ambiguous energy going on of whether she’s good or not. She is the herald of Galactus, so she works for Galactus, but you’re not sure where she stands. Does she stand with her boss, or is she just doing what she’s told? She has this mysterious energy about her, and slowly that mystery will get solved with the audience throughout watching it.”

Diving into the comic-book history of Shalla-Bal was important for Garner—though in Marvel Studios latest, things get switched up a bit for the character. “What makes this version different is that the movie is just different. First of all, I’m a woman, so that’s already different, and that hasn’t been told before. This Silver Surfer feels more mysterious in a way, even how it was written, than the other ones. Also, just the world feels so different with the 1960s retro futurism going on. The audience is going to get a completely different experience with this movie, so they’ll have a clean palette.”

She continued, deliberately vaguely: “All I can say is that she works for Galactus and that she’s mysterious, and the character will unfold more towards the end of the movie. That’s all I can say. I know it’s a very Marvel tease, but also it’s like a real tease. I haven’t seen the movie myself!”
