So ok, those of us who have read the sides know what's going down. If you don't, now is about the time u wanna head to the non-spoilers sections.

The ideas of the Brian scene and the "Vigilante" got discussed slightly in the Sides thread. But now I'm starting to notice that The Sons of Batman, The Joker, the title, all that stuff. A lot of it is stemming from TDKR. I've only read it once as I find it such a piss in the face to Batfans, but what other things do u think/want from TDKR?

The helicopter thing might be pretty badass IMO.

I loved the helicopter scene in :

THE MAN WHO LAUGHS by Ed Brubaker and Doug Mahnke. A perfect hardcore Batman / Joker story.
There is a helicopter scene on page 33 ! Great scene, the SWAT unit shootin the copter down followed by Batman kickin Joker, Gordon and the SWAT units around. A fight between Joker and Batman, Joker with two guns, in fight with Batman....Joker jumps out of a window, rescued by a helicopter...WOW

Please read it ..a great action packed story.

The S.O.B.S. were one of the great things about TDKR and if they are add in TDK movie then I'm all for that of course with BAtman acting to put a stop to there overly agressive style of vigilantism.

by the way in DKR no. 1 there is a cool helicopter scened at the end between 2-face and Batman.

i think the nuclear bomb arch will be involved with arms deal:

when the USSR launches a nuclear warhead called Coldbringer in response to Superman's presence in Corto Maltese. Superman manages to divert the missile to an uninhabited desert area before it detonates, but damage is done nonetheless. The warhead was designed to disrupt all electronics and communications in the Western Hemisphere as well as throw millions of tons of dust and debris into the atmosphere. Deprived of the sunlight that gives him his powers, Superman is nearly consumed by his own hypermetabolism. Gotham descends almost immediately into chaos as the blackout hits, with rioting and looting rocking the city. An airplane crippled by the electromagnetic pulse crashes into a building, feeding the panic. A few citizens, including Jim Gordon, pull together to fight the fires and retain some semblance of civilization until the power is restored.

but leave out Superman.

Actually, this being in the film could be important title wise. Like a reporter sees Batman on the horse and comes up the nickname: The Dark Knight!

eh, sons of batman? it could work, they'd have to be damn careful about it though. its one of those things that'd be so easy to do wrong, but if done right then it can be cool. i do hope though that its done in a way so its actually necessary for the story, and not just a cool comic reference for the fans.

Have you read the sides? From what we have, I don’t think you have to worry about that, it seems to be a part of the story.

Isn't there some copyright legalities with the DKR storyline?
Wouldn't Miller have to be credited and compensated if they used too much of his story?
I'm not a lawyer but it seems that if they used a huge story elements like the nuke/bats on a horse/sotb that Miller would be due.

Frank Miller does not own the copyright to DKR. DC comics does. And Warner Bros. owns DC comics.

In other words... no copyright issues. :o

yes i have. and its very little to go on, in regards to the actual story and how the sons of batman fall into the story. the vigilante/avenger rooftop scene i actually thought was kinda lame, but i'll have to see it in proper context to properly judge it. everything else seemed fine....nothing really blew my mind.

I actually thought of that old LOTDK story, where a band of vigilantes sets up after Bats saves their leader, ran in LOTDK 25 - 27 I think. I loved the side with the Avenger/Vigilante dialogue, not at all lame, and if the rest of the screenplay is in this vein we are in for a treat.

I meant it doesn't look like it is just thrown in there for fanboys. It seems to be an actual part of the story. I wasn’t debating the merits.

SOB's make Batman larger than life, imo, and were one of the best parts of DKR.

obviously, they want to show that batman's making an impact on gotham, and these untrained, wild vigilantes will show that

I think a version of the Jokers white suit would be awesome in TDK. Also the TV reporters commentary and more public reactions to Batman, which I guess we saw a snippet of in the sides.

I used to hold out hope for a glider vehicle like the remote controlled thingy he uses to escape from Yindel. But I guess a boat will be fine.

dont get me wrong, i do believe they can make it work, as risky as it may seem to me. im just saying, from what the sides show, theres not nearly enough to go by to be able to make that judgement right now. in fact, i dont think we'll be able to tell until the movie is seen.

It could work...anything could work. But its more a question of do you think it will. I am very skeptical. I think it may come off as artificial. As in, not a natural progression of the escalation. In TDKR and other comics, it made sense, because bats had been around for ages and was ingrained into the psyche of Gotham and its citizens. Im just not sure whether it has been long enough. It may come off like Spiderman 2 where Peter is conflicted between his two identities and his commitment to fighting crime etc. It came off as too soon in his career to be having that sort of conflict, he had only just thwarted his first major villain. I just dont want batman to be resorting to story possibilities now, which would much better suited further down the line.

Your Right itsthebatman. It reminds me of the "Faith" storyline. It was in Legends of the Dark Knight #21-23. Right after the awesome Venom story.

It was a solid story with a gang trying to help Batman but lacking his discipline and drive they are sloppy and Batman has to stop them.

If handled well, the idea of Joker torturing one maybe making an example of him, could be incredible.
