If you find a copy of the TSSM Blu ray on a store shelf, consider yourself lucky. Once stores sold out of the initial batch when it was first released, they never back stocked the set. All my local stores were out within the first month and then you had to order it online. It's still readily available online at places like Amazon, Best Buy, etc.

Note: It won't have a slipcover. If you're interested in purchasing one with a slip, you gotta find a copy on Ebay or other similar outlet. New copies from Amazon, for example, come slip-less.

The initial 65 episodes over 5-season plan was to take Peter from the start of his junior year through his HS graduation. This is according to Weisman. There were no time jumps planned or mentioned. After graduation, they were going to do direct to DVD releases that started with Peter attending college.

Honestly, I think they should bring the show back on Netflix. It's not like no one would watch it, everyone would. Put the first 2 seasons up, then bring us the 3rd season and such.

Trust me when I say that almost nothing would give me as much pleasure to see TSSM get a 3rd and more seasons. But...it's almost impossible for that to happen. Disney and Sony would have to work together to share the rights--not an impossibility as seen from their shared movie rights agreement, however...according to Weisman, none of the people from Sony that were involved with TSSM are still there. He stated he wouldn't even know who to talk to about the show. He's also talked to Marvel about continuing the show in CB form but has been shot down. Pretty much all of the cast and crew have stated a desire to return to working on the show so that really would not be an issue. Ok, so maybe it's not impossible. There are some big hurdles to jump over to make it happen and although the show has a very dedicated fan base, here is the underlying major question, why would Disney, who currently holds the animation rights for Spider-Man, with a very successful show in USM, want to go about creating another animated show that would possibly draw away from the success of their current one? Now maybe if USM was tanking and not doing well in sales of merchandise and what not, yeah, I could see a possible resurgence of TSSM. But as long as USM is doing well, I don't forsee that happening. Sucks.

Sucks soooo bad. Especially considering how bad a show USM is imo. Oh well. 2 seasons of SSM are better than none I suppose. And atleast we got a blu-ray release of it, which was completely unexpected!

For a while I thought USM show has my favorite version of Ock.
Then I saw the episode Group Therapy again.
Made me on my previous thought, TSSM version is easily better.

And I saw the last couple of episodes again, USM series (although I enjoy the show) sometimes make me think Spider-Man is a mediocre idiot, the few episodes I saw of Spectacular -and older shows- again made me reevaluate that sentiment.

I like the idea that Ock in USM is a quadraplegic. It's a neat twist on the reasoning for him having his mechanical arms. However, Ock in TSSM is definitely better represented, imo, both as a character and the stories they covered, i.e. Sinister 6, Master Planner, and Gang War.

I feel like that's really the only way we can get more TSSM at this point, though we'd be missing big chunks of Peter's journey in high school to get there. Dunno if Weisman would be willing to try that or run it by the folks at Disney/Sony though.

Eh, don't hold your breath. In the last response I saw Weisman give in regards to being questioned about a possible continuation of the series, he said, there isn't anyone still working in the animation division for Sony that was involved in TSSM back when it was airing/being produced. Weisman has said he's approached executives with the idea of making the show again but he's not had any known progress. And, if you're familiar with Weisman you'd know he produced the Disney Gargoyles show back in the 90's and after its tv episode run had ended, Disney gave him the go-ahead to continue the show in comic book form. Weisman has stated that he went to Marvel/Disney to continue TSSM in comic book form but was denied.

Many of the shows creators and voice talents have stated they'd return to making TSSM in a heartbeat, both Weisman and Cook included. However, Weisman is plenty busy these days...he's got his new line of books, Rain of the Ghosts.

It's pretty much a death sentence for TSSM. Highly doubt the show will ever be continued. My best hope now is that they utilize the creators and voice talents from TSSM into the new Spidey animated movie.

That was my hope when Sony said they were making an animated Spidey film. It would be cool if they could continue SSM, maybe make the film Pete's senior year in high school or freshman year of college. But I doubt it, as the new directors probably have their own ideas.

My hope is that Feige, Marvel Studios, and Sony bring Weisman in to help layout the MCU Spider-Man franchise. He did a great job of taking the comics, plus what worked outside of 616 and updated it. SSM would be the perfect guide for the new live action movies.

What I love most about Weisman is that he is not only a great writer/producer but he also has great respect for the character of Spider-Man and his mythos. Especially when you compare him to the likes of Webb, Orci and Kurtzman, Arad, Tolmach and just about every other fool working for Sony, there's really no comparison to be made.

Whomever is in charge of the animated movie, Lord and Miller, and even the live action films would be doing themselves a great justice by hiring Weisman in some regard. Whether it be as a writer, producer, consultant, whatever it doesn't matter--his insight and planning are excellent.

I really think TSSM has been the only truly successful Spider-Man adaptation. It's ability to portray the characters, do justice to the classic stories, make updates and bring about some of the best ideas from various sources is how it was able to be so successful and in part much of the credit needs to go to Weisman and Cook. They did a fantastic job. Other adaptations, such as the Raimi films for example, did some things well but missed out on some things too. From top to bottom, TSSM is simply the best.

I listened to the "Reaction" podcast episode last night. Here's some highlights:

* Weisman enjoyed Ultron and stated he's been impressed with Marvel's ability to set up their cinematic universe.

* Director Jennifer Coyle is the one who designed the actual visual for Gwen's "the look" for this episode.

* Weisman praised Peter MacNicol's performance as Doc Ock. He stated Peter gave both Otto and Dr Octopus a great deal of humanity and was able to give them their own unique voices.

* Greg also talked about some of the ideas he had for other episodes, i.e. wanting to use Kingpin, having Torch and Spidey team-up, etc. but was unable to do so because of the relationship between Marvel and Sony back in 2008/09. He said they were very much at odds with one another and is pleased to see them cooperating these days with their partnership in the film universe.

* Greg was asked about the new animated movie that Sony is producing. He said, he hasn't received any calls about it but that Sony knows where he is if they need to get a hold of him. He also mentioned that he is looking for work and would love to be a part of the animated film for sure. Weisman said that it would be great to get his production staff back together along with all the voice talents from TSSM to help produce the animated film and said that everyone from TSSM would jump at the chance to do it.

* Weisman stated that he used the idea from the USM comics of having Otto work at Oscorp under Norman Osborn and used the 616 books for the characterization of Otto/Doc Ock. Greg said that their idea of being cohesive was to take some of the best ideas from any iteration and bring them together.

* They also talked about the obscure character reference of Dr Twaki. Greg said they decided from before making episode one that they would not create any original characters for TSSM. All characters used are taken directly from Spider-Man's continuity...comics, previous animated shows and/or the Raimi movies.

One of my favourite episodes. I will listen to that for sure.
