Marvel Studios was a thing by that time and they likely wanted the movie and television rights to Sony, which the latter owned at the time. Not to mention this type of relationship has been seen between companies under the same umbrella, like Cartoon Network not getting along with Warner Bros. and DC comics.

Honestly, I'm more interested by the spin-off from multiple Spidey characters (Flint, Hobie, Felicia, likely Sable, etc.) than the other general team-ups. It sounds a lot like a Redemption Squad situation, but that's just me.
Man, if only TSSM had come out around this time instead of 2009.

I'm kind of split on this. On one hand, I would've really liked to see the show receive the attention it deserved, and even run on 100 episodes. On the other hand, I would've really hated to see its integrity destroyed by mandates to shill the MCU and current Marvel projects down our throats, team-ups with Disney Channel sitcoms like Jesse, etc.

Just started rewatching the series and man, how much I miss this show. I know we all wish it could have run a little longer as I've been digging the early introductions with Miles Warren and Roderick Kingsley for example. What Greg Weisman and Co. did with the series was most admirable, bringing in as many characters from Spidey lore as possible and more.

If only they could resurrect the series and scrap that mediocre USM.

Cheers for the podcasts too - I'll take a listen very soon. :)

I was thinking about this just the other day. TSSM, had it been produced today, more than likely would have a seen a much different version considering how Disney/Marvel treats their animated shows. I have strong doubts that many of the adult-type thematic elements would have made it so far. Not to mention, as you stated Gamer, we'd probably be getting the 'team-ups' we wanted or maybe didn't, but it would be an effort to market anything that was going on within the movie-verse, other tv shows, etc. Much like a cash-grab tactic. I'm not saying for definite this would have been the case, but, when you look at how things are currently being produced, it for sure makes you wonder. So, while most of us wish there was more than just the two seasons produced, in a way, it's nice knowing that the brilliant two seasons we did get are locked away in an untouchable void, safe and protected.

If you're a fan of the show, you'll enjoy the podcasts. It's a great insight to the thought process of those involved and illuminates just how the creative forces behind the show were able to be so successful.

Yeah, this is pretty much why I think it would have been better if it had started around 2006 rather than after the Disney/Marvel buyout. This way it most likely would have gotten at least two more seasons as well as not having to through the issues you just stated.

One is an example, Two is a coincidence, Three is a trend.

I suppose if they'd gotten at least one more season to prove once again the show was more than capable, it probably would consistently rank on the 'best of' lists. Though it's still pretty impressive that even after only two seasons it already makes plenty of those lists as it is.

If I were making the list Spectacular would definitely be on it, along with EMH and W&TXM, which to me is the best X-Men series with only 26 episodes.

But there was already a Spidey series on the list and only 10 spots to fill....Wouldn't have stopped me from putting it on the list, but it is what it is. It may have even made it if it had the episode count of the second Batman entry Batman Beyond, but that's just speculation. Either way, it's miles better then Spawn and some of the other entries on that list.

They had three Batman shows. I honestly would've put only B:TAS in it. Batman Beyond was neat, but I wouldn't consider it Top 10 material. Same with Brave and the Bold, even though that was honestly more of a DC Universe cartoon.

I also would've added Avengers: Earth's Mightiest Heroes.

Agreed. Love the Return of the Joker DTV though.

I'm actually quite surprised it wasn't there.

The fight in this episode was probably the best one in the series. The way the black suit took out the Sinister Six was brilliant. Especially what he did to Sandman.
