i had a funny idea that if, like in the Stand something wiped out most of the world, what would you do? Then i thought what if only people on the hype were left? I'm not sure if this has been done before, but i figured most people on the internet are recluses so nothing would really change. What do you think?:o

There would be intense fighting over the women. Any trolls would be killed and eaten by musclesforsupes.

When I first read the Stand way back in the early 90's I often thought of what I would do and it's basically the same thing I would do if Zombies were real. Head to the local Costco for water, food and necessities and Bass Pro for guns and camping gear and head for the hills or the nearest military base.

Prisons are actually an ideal location, assuming the prisoners aren't still there. Or warehouses.

The Stand will happen soon, remember bird flu is still out there and it's about to kill us all!

Nothing would really change if most of the world died huh?

Do you know how to run a power plant to keep the electricity going? If you do, can you provide the material that is needed to run it? They come from somewhere.

Do you know how to treat water to make it safe to drink? If you do, can you provide the chemicals that are required to do that? They come from somewhere.

Do you have the medical skills to take care of people who are sick, need operations, or bones reset? If you do, do you have the medicines and material needed to perform these duties? They come from somewhere.

Who's going to take care of the millions of dead bodies that are rotting in the streets...fouling the air and spreading diseases?

Who's going to put out all the fires? Repair the roads and bridges that get damaged from natural disasters?

It's been shown that the world can barely take care of these things with plenty of knowlegeable people around to do it...what do you think will happen if 99% of the world died off?

Speak for yourself C.Lee. I live in a metropolitan area now, but I was raised in the country and I could rely on myself for food, hunting(even though I'm a vegan now, I used to hunt and fish a lot growing up), and overall survival. I still have my old bow and arrow collection. (the bow is only 40lb pressure, but it gets the job done.)

I would let the rest worry about their own problems and I would disappear permanently.

I was speaking for myself....I am a country boy too (fishing and bow hunting is no problem)...I also was a water treatment operator for over 20 years (so I know about making safe drinking water)....the original poster made it sound like there would be no interruption to his life if an event like the Stand happened...I was trying to point out to him that it would.

I SO wouldn't go to Vegas:( .

Heh, while we're stock-piling ammo and fuel he'll be busting into Toys R Us to amass the grandest. action figure. collection. EVAR!

You're definitely right about how drastic the changes would be. It would almost be night/day for a lot of my generation. Most people have no clue of how to function w/out technology; that would serve as the least of problems. Basic needs would become the large hurdles of every day life.

I don't think I like this thread anymore.:(

I could live in and/or w/ the wild, but I definitely wouldn't choose to. Camping is great for me, but as a way of life, the comfort level would greatly reduce itself.

Yep....I grew up without having a cell phone to my ear all day long. Didn't get a computer until 4 years ago. As a kid, I had to walk or ride my bike if I wanted to go anywhere (there was no public transportation, and my parents didn't chaufeur me everywhere). I grew up in rural Kentucky....every time the wind blew hard the electricity went out. There were many times, that what I caught fishing or shot while hunting, was what we had for dinner later.

It would be rough going back to that and worse....but it wouldn't be as big of a kick in the groin to me as it would to many of todays techno-dependent kids out there.

If that's how you were raised, the initial transition would seem difficult, but you would adapt quickly. Like you said, I don't think that would happen for most of my generation.

A lot of my friends are confused when it comes to simple things like changing tires, oil matinence, checking tire pressure, etc. . . simple things. Most are looking for the nearest Midas or Service Center.

This is just an example, but I couldn't see them and a lot of other people (under 30 like myself) functioning w/out grocery stores(any other major food resource center), benefits derived from tech(like electricity, things that use electricity), and covering(home, hotel, etc. . .).

If it was me, I'd probably take around 50-75lbs of canned goods(if I had access to them), an extensive medical kit w/ a few antibiotics, pain relievers, bandages, etc. . ., matches, can-opener, my hunting knife, my bow, and my katana.

I'm not sure if I'd take a gun of some sort w/ me. A lot of my extended family is in to hunting w/ live ammo, but I always preferred a bow and arrow. I've only taken out small game w/ that instrument though. On second thought, I might actually need a rifle to eat frequently.:O Other than that, I'd take some of my novels for some kind of ent., and attempt to survive w/ little or no incident.

but for how long :/ the medicine can only last for so long :/ that would be my only concern.. medicines... vitamins and such that I take.

I take vitamins (C, overall daily one, Calcium) and some other supplements, but I guess I'd have to eventually eliminate that and try to continue w/ out those things.

Medecine: I rarely get sick, but in an open environment, things would probably fare differently.

Yeah.. I don't get sick that often anymore... But I have had bad asthma in the past :/ I would fear panic attacks for the most part

There aren't too many real men in the world. It makes me sick to see a man that can't change a tire . Good luck building a fire :(

Like C Lee I'm a country boy and knows the ways of farm life and such and do know my way around weapons :) I pity the fool that mess with me. If something like the Stand happen I would move to kentucky and go back to farming, after finding any survivors(especially if Elisha one of them :D ) and I do know something about medicine, my sister was a paramedic and used to read her those books of hers as for drugs if you know the old remedys(go to a good library) you can find alot plants that can also help you

I've had a similar thought as of late  But instead of the world dying, it's more like every hype poster is stalked by the hype illumanti, captured by them, and forced to fight in tournaments while they all bet on us like roosters in cock fights :csad: That and them playing the Running Man game with us all

I'm bad at fully describing my dreams. I figured everyone would jsut be onthe hype and that would be it. As for the above I know how to fish, hunt can read about enough about medicines and treatments. Know how to purify water all i would have to do is move out to the country and eat peaches:o
