If that's how you were raised, the initial transition would seem difficult, but you would adapt quickly. Like you said, I don't think that would happen for most of my generation.
A lot of my friends are confused when it comes to simple things like changing tires, oil matinence, checking tire pressure, etc. . . simple things. Most are looking for the nearest Midas or Service Center.
This is just an example, but I couldn't see them and a lot of other people (under 30 like myself) functioning w/out grocery stores(any other major food resource center), benefits derived from tech(like electricity, things that use electricity), and covering(home, hotel, etc. . .).
If it was me, I'd probably take around 50-75lbs of canned goods(if I had access to them), an extensive medical kit w/ a few antibiotics, pain relievers, bandages, etc. . ., matches, can-opener, my hunting knife, my bow, and my katana.
I'm not sure if I'd take a gun of some sort w/ me. A lot of my extended family is in to hunting w/ live ammo, but I always preferred a bow and arrow. I've only taken out small game w/ that instrument though. On second thought, I might actually need a rifle to eat frequently.
Other than that, I'd take some of my novels for some kind of ent., and attempt to survive w/ little or no incident.
