Hey all! Even though I do have my own fan art thread, I felt this project was too big and required it's own place. Now to set things up:

As birthday gifts for my family, I conceptualize and create pieces of 2D pencilled artwork. Doing so makes the gift more personal and having it come from hand gives it a very (and literally) tangible sense of caring for both the piece and the given family member at the time.

Anyway, I've finished a similar project for one of my three Uncles, who's birthday is this month...a 4 ft tall by 18 ft long "Indiana Jones" Mural...and I'm now working on one for another Uncle, who's birthday is in June.

And now for the piece itself:

What I have decided to create is, to date, the largest piece of artwork I've ever attempted aside from the aforementioned work.

Titled "The STAR WARS," the piece is an 18 in tall by a monstrous 60 ft long to chronicle all 6 theatrical "Star Wars" motion pictures, from "The Phantom Menace" to "Return of the Jedi."

Each "Episode" will be composed of 5 pieces of 18 x 24 Canson Drawing Paper positioned horizontally. Each mural will then be drawn in #2 pencil, inked in Staedtler Pigment Liner and colored in an assortment of colored pencils.

Numerous pictures will be taken as we go along.

I've chosen to make this project public out of the mere fact that doing the project will be an incredible journey both of skill and of odds nearly as gargantuan as the piece itself...a journey I'd be delighted to share with those who would like to watch the conceptualization, progression and completion.

Hopefully, the Force will be with me lol!

I'll have pictures of the work I've done for the "Episode I" portion in a little while...

:yay:

You've already gotten farther than I would have gotten before getting burned out and just buying my uncle a wal-mart gift card or something. Are you going to pencil the whole thing then ink it and then color it, or go one episode at a time, penciling inking and coloring one episode then moving on to the next? If I were doing this I would just do one a year and spread it out over 6 years. Of course like I said i lack the commitment necessary to ever finish a project like this in the first place.

Anyways, it looks great.

Well I took the first approach with the four "Indiana Jones" ones...pencilled all, then inked all and so on.

I was telling myself how surprised I'd be if I had the prequel trilogy pencilled before I had to go back to school (next week)...but I'll be happy if I can at least have all of "TPM" and a good chunk of "AOTC" done.

cool man...it's coming along great! great idea for a thread too.

nice! im loving the progress so far!

Your really improving too theis latest stuff is great! Please take full on digital pictures or scans of the inked versions because as i've stated with some of your stuff in the past your color pencils don't do it justice at all. Some of the fine digital colorist here might want to take a shot or you might want to digitally try it you know. The color pencils just end up looking faded and I can already tell this is going to be GREAT!

Where is your uncle going to put it by the way?

With the exception of my January Art entry lol, yeah I'll be taking pictures of it in inked form for digital artists to take a crack at.

And I have no idea where he could put it. Most likely it'll be folded up and put away...which is a funny thing to think about since it's 60 feet.

Did you know that the Hollywood sign only stands 45 feet tall? Meaning if you put this thing vertically next to it, the mural's taller by a whole 15 ft!!!

crazy I once stole a spiderman movie poster (first spiderman before ti came out what can I say I was young and stupid and it was a dare) from a theatre that was bigger than my bed and the only place I could put was my ceiling:D

That's awesome. Not necessarily the stealing part, but we've all been there I suppose.

I took a small break to step back from the piece so I didn't get burnt out (the best advice for doing art I've ever been given) but I'll be getting back to it in a few days.

When I saw the midnight showing of The Dark Knight here in Halifax, the reel melted in the last 15 minutes. Nobody in the packed theatre got to see the end, and they weren't willing to shuffle us into another cinema and put on another copy to finish it. the 300 or so people stripped the place clean. There was a 20 foot Joker poster hanging in the auditorium. I was soo pissed I was planning to take it. By the time I got around the corner, it was already gone. Along with Iron Man, Hulk and Hellboy 2 cardboard standies. It was brutal.

Mad  for what goin on up in this thread CFE!
