9/10 times the reason for any action taken becomes public knowledge, and petitions to re-instate banned members have worked. Personally, I think that any bannings should be up to a public poll, but leave probation in the hands of the mods.

I don't think thats a good idea. Say Wilhelm posts hardcore porn on the site in a thread titled "The 13 and under thread! All young Hypsters come here!"...do you think people would vote to ban him? Of course not. Say Memphis Slim/Celldog on the other hand, does a minor case of trolling. He'd be out and never let back. Moderator's discretion is needed. Certain mods just need to be fair about it.

Matt....I don't know you much at all....but seriously...what is with the avy?? is it some inside joke or something??

Sort of. Following the release of Spider-Man, way back in 2002 I spearheaded The I Kid You Not Guy Fan Club. We are united by our love for this over-actor :yay:

His performance was quite stirring....I almost thought he was talking to me...I then stopped my tomfoolery and paid full attention to the film

Why would a moderator delete them? At best just ingnore them instead of lighting the fire that comes with deletion.

I honestly don't know why Matt, ive asked the question though, personally like i said, i take the "can't please everybody" route so if i get critiqued so be it.

I still have nightmares of that horrible place :csad:

Man i was all ready for the sequel that never came:woot:

And that is why most posters respect you. In a way, its not what a mod is saying, but how they say it that matters.

Appreciated, I agree, it's like debate, delivery is the key, to many on here deliver points in a debate like they need to "own" instead of just get their view across, we both saw this in the aforementioned SR board.

 :woot: I'm glad to see he has touched another soul.

Exactly. Its bound to happen when you throw yourself out there as a mod. If you can't take criticism (constructive or otherwise, because they are both going to come...though the latter SHOULD be deleted) then you have no business being a moderator.

Hehe, even though Brandon Routh is now booked well through 2009, its still gonna happen! :cwink:

*shudder*...Its like Vietnam. The flash backs to that board never end :csad:

But yeah, its all about delivery. I really doubt that 75 % of the people on these boards who despise Morg would if he were just a bit more professional when he first started moderating. It seems like only recently he realized he shouldn't antagonize people he is disciplining.

You and Hunter only survived SR because I let you. :cmad:

I kind of mis-spoke. I think that depending on the transgression, the members should have some say. To take your examples: Wilhelm should be banned, but I still think that in the case of trolling, other posters should have a say in whether or not the person is banned. If you have the majority of posters around here against you, why would you even want to stay?

No, no, no. Disputes between mods and posters should be settled in the THUNDERDOME!!!! Two men enter! One man leave! Two men enter! One man leave!!!! :cmad:

This just struck me as funny because the good mods know th^t, but I instantly heard the response in my mind from the problem-mods, which would be something like,
"Who cares?", or "Shut Up, -banned-.", or "If you don't like the way I do things, leave. Stop complaining all the time." Hahaha

If it were me, I'd want to be one of the ones that people respect, not one of the ones people fear or quietly try to tolerate.
I don't get it.

*Smacks head* What was I thinking? It was so obvious!

C. Lee used to be on that list.

The problem with him is, I think he is just geniunely burnt out. No one said being a moderator is an easy job. I think he is sick of the crap so he just shows up at any trouble spot and probates any name he sees on the page. He probated The Incredible Hulk (an upstanding poster who has never caused any trouble) a few weeks ago for making a joke. (Said something along the lines of "I only come to the Superman forums to bash Brandon Routh"). He was being sarcastic, people got the joke. Thought it was funny. Lee probated him because he was there with the people fighting. Lee has really taken on a shoot first, ask questions later approach. However, if he doesn't enjoy doing it any more he should quit. That is what Kev did, that is what Cyke did, that is what Superman did. No one is holding anyone at gun point, which is why I don't buy the "I'm sick of you people/you drove me to act like this" excuse.

I don't know C.Lee at all. But I do know of him and seen his name pop out every now and then when I post. And you're right, no one said being a mod is easy which I why I don't ever want to be a mod and why I respect those who do it so well. I think Mods should not be too egoist and think that they are always right and should not be afraid to admit that they do make bad judgment calls sometimes. That said, I still have faith in quite a few of them.

I shall try to avoid it

Yay! :)

It really wasn't. It would be one thing if I came in and said something like "HAHA! MORG IS TEH STUPID!" or "C.Lee suxxors!!!"

I was polite, I was articulate. I do not see why it was deleted.

For as long as I've been here, I've not been a witness to such unfairness until now. But then again, I don't 'roam' much when I'm at the Hype.

I don't want to be banned 'cause I like to interact with the cool people of the Hype. It's just too bad you can't enjoy the cool people of the Hype without having to deal with the childish moderation.

Maybe, someday, if enough people confront the people in charge with all of this stuff, they'll drop the ego-trips and start to take pride in the Hype again and try to improve it instead of behaving as if they're infallible and above scrutiny. *shrug*

All hope is not yet lost, Wil. Good mods still exist here and they'll not let this place run to the ground. But the thing is... how much of a say do these good mods have? I hope those in charge will listen to their voices of reason and realize that not everyone complains for no reason.

The posts I made yesterday were on one of the earlier pages. I believe page 3 or 4. Apparently someone deleted them.

As for Lesoft, Toven was put on probated yesterday for saying the name.

I thought I saw someone said Holly was put on probation because she was messing with kakarot?

I think is a case by case situation at least for me, If i make a probation or something i talk it through with the person in PM's and have discussed calls in threads with posters when they felt it was an unfair or odd call.

The people's mod.

I'd just like to thank Hunter for his willingness to talk this out with us. I am sure this thread will get closed and deleted before long, so yeah, might as well say it now, thanks Hunter
