The State of the Hype.

THIS is the state of the Hype.
The ownwership/management seems to be getting more and more petty and childish, with an accurate, but nonetheless ignoble "Hey, I have the power. There's nothing you can say or do, so if you don't like it, go to another site." - Attitude.

I've been told that I'll be banned just for even making an observation about a certain person, not even insults, I can't even talk about him. You can talk about any other poster, people can say that I'm "a ******", that I'm "overrated", that I'm arrogant, that I'm going to Hell, that I'm a deviant, that I'm clueless, whatever.
You can talk about the president of the united states, or make observations about Stan Lee, or Bendis, or JAL, but you can't talk about this person.

And the ellesspee thing has now escalated to comical proportions...
First they censor it.........then they uncensor it but say you can't post links to it..........then they censor it again.........then they uncensor it, BUT, yeah, you can post the name of it, BUT, if you do, you're banned.

Why not just uncensor the F word, since you're obviously just waiting to ban people for saying something that they are allowed to say?

Meanwhile, there's a whole thread about other sites where Hypesters post, and lo and behold, there are sites named that have just as much "adult" content as this one that's been singled out.

Vindictive, petty children. :whatever:

People act like Louis XIV here, it's really pathetic. It's like centuries ago where you'd be flayed for drawing a caricature of the King.
They should just grow up and everyone would enjoy the site more.
There's such a sour "Us vs. You" tone and that doesn't just appear spontaneously in a vacuum.

You don't see such criticism at The Site That Must Not Be Named, if anything you see gushing love-fests, and respect for the decisions that are made.

This "using your Mod power to delete any criticism" is pathetic. :o

Not saying anything that hasn't been said before but....

Also after a while you'll get apathetic about it and not really care. :yay: It's amazing how good you'll feel about it.

You can't. You're one of the better posters here and besides... you can't abandon Survivor when it's in its early stage of conception.

I don't immiedietly plan to (though in all honesty, it will happen sooner or later). If I do get banned or leave, the game will be held on the unnamed site. I've already been offered to but I turned them down in order to make it accessible to the many new players who signed up for this game. If I do get banned, each one of those players will recieve a PM with a link to the forbidden site and a gauranteed spot in the game.

Matt will be a martyr. :csad:

I've had my altercations with C.Lee and Morg and sometimes I wonder if the only reason I'm not banned is because I will be seen that way. If so, its a pretty stupid reason not to ban me. I mean, how much of an uprising can you have on an internet message board?

BANNED! :csad:

But seriously, I get your point.

He probably will be. Maybe not today or for that specific post, but eventually Wil, will say something like that when Mirko or Morg or C. Lee are having a bad day and they will see it and instead of just deleting it, ban him. And that is sad because everything he said is absolutely true.

We have them. They are called Drakon, Hunter Rider, Immortalfire, and Dog Lips.

The best moderators are the type you never see moderate. The type who will just send a PM and say "hey, can you please stop it?". Unfortunately, certain moderators would rather flaunt their power than handle things in a mature way.

Dude, I'll just back stab you at some point and take over the game.

Those are upstanding people that you mentioned there, Matt. I think if it weren't for them, there will be NO voice at all here. I have the utmost respect for them for the fairness they show in their moderating. Very reasonable individuals.

My thoughts exactly. I can understand them not tolerating trolling but your post was nothing of that sort.

I don't think Wilhelm cares if he's banned or not (do you, Wil?), which is why he's outspoken about it. As I mentioned before, I can totally see his point.

C. Lee used to be on that list.

The problem with him is, I think he is just geniunely burnt out. No one said being a moderator is an easy job. I think he is sick of the crap so he just shows up at any trouble spot and probates any name he sees on the page. He probated The Incredible Hulk (an upstanding poster who has never caused any trouble) a few weeks ago for making a joke. (Said something along the lines of "I only come to the Superman forums to bash Brandon Routh"). He was being sarcastic, people got the joke. Thought it was funny. Lee probated him because he was there with the people fighting. Lee has really taken on a shoot first, ask questions later approach. However, if he doesn't enjoy doing it any more he should quit. That is what Kev did, that is what Cyke did, that is what Superman did. No one is holding anyone at gun point, which is why I don't buy the "I'm sick of you people/you drove me to act like this" excuse.

I talk with Hunter Rider on and off in the Squared Cirlce thread and HR has always seemed pretty laid back and really only stepping in when its required. Drakon and Immortal the same......

I sure hope you don't get banned or leave.

I shall try to avoid it :yay:

It really wasn't. It would be one thing if I came in and said something like "HAHA! MORG IS TEH STUPID!" or "C.Lee suxxors!!!"

I was polite, I was articulate. I do not see why it was deleted.

I don't think Wilhelm cares if he's banned or not (do you, Wil?), which is why he's outspoken about it. As I mentioned before, I can totally see his point.

He doesn't care, which is exactly why he will be banned.

I find this problem really started with two events:

1) Bakerboy and Mr. Parker's bannings. I know not many remember them or liked them, but the fact is, they were banned not because of their actions but because the majority disliked what they were saying. They weren't trolls. They just had an unpopular opinion (which actually resulted in people insulting and harrassing them). When they were banned for having an unpopular opinion, the mods began up their very slippery slope.

2) When Malice left. Malice was fair, and did to an extent hold the moderators liable for their actions. Mirko on the other hand simply says "Its my site, they're the moderators and can do what they want. If you don't like it, leave."

I don't want to be banned 'cause I like to interact with the cool people of the Hype. It's just too bad you can't enjoy the cool people of the Hype without having to deal with the childish moderation.
Maybe, someday, if enough people confront the people in charge with all of this stuff, they'll drop the ego-trips and start to take pride in the Hype again and try to improve it instead of behaving as if they're infallible and above scrutiny. *shrug*

Matt I'm trying to find your posts what page are they on ?

As for Lesoft, since when did saying it's name become a banable offense ? I know there is the while mess of it being censored and then just the link being prohibited but Ive never heard of someone being banned for just mentioning the site.

The posts I made yesterday were on one of the earlier pages. I believe page 3 or 4. Apparently someone deleted them.

As for Lesoft, Toven was put on probated yesterday for saying the name.

I actually wasn't here for this, these 2 ppl weren't Freddie ?

I think is a case by case situation at least for me, If i make a probation or something i talk it through with the person in PM's and have discussed calls in threads with posters when they felt it was an unfair or odd call.

No they weren't. They were two posters from when the site was much smaller. They had very unpopular opinions on the Spider-Man movies which often led to them being verbally assaulted, which of course would put them on the defensive from time to time. One day, they were just banned. The people who antagonized them (myself included...cause it was fun) were never disciplined.

And that is really the way to handle it. I think if Mirko was more willing to discuss issues and encouraged his mods (especifically Lee and Morg, as I find they are the most resistant to discussing anything) to do the same, a lot of this wouldn't be going on. Hell, the forbidden site may not even be in exisitance.

I saw those posts. Frankly there was nothing in them that warranted deletion.

If that is true it is horribly pathetic.

Were my posts in this thread seriously deleted?

Way to prove my point Mods

I said nothing inflammatory about C. Lee or Morg. I did not insult them on a personal level. I simply critiqued their moderating. If the moderators are so above criticism that they feel the need to delete any post slightly critical of a moderator we can see what a big problem there is on this site.

Yeah, my post agreeing with you in an equally respectful manner got deleted as well. This is getting really ridiculous.

Ive looked right through your profile for the last 10 pages of posts you've made and they aren't there in normal deleted mode so it looks like they were hard deleted which baffles me, I'll ask about it and see what is up.

There was a misunderstanding over Toven and that was lifted

Ah i see, well things may have changed a little since then since you and me got out the SR section alive:woot:

For me personally ive always preferred just to be a poster first still, with any call Ive found 90% of posters to be reasonable if you tackle the issue head on with them, that way even if they don't agree they have gotten an explanation, It's truly a case of not being able to please everyone but you can give your side and air it out.

See I'm hard-headed about stuff like banning and probation....I wouldn't be handling it in PM land....if the Mod wanted to address an issue with me, I would demand it be addressed in the thread.....I have nothing to hide....

I think it's done more in the favor of efficiency and the ability to keep track of the conversation, not privacy.

I get that....but, and I'm not trying to come off as having any kind of bravado here, if you're going to take any action, have the fortitude to do it in front of everyone....

9/10 times the reason for any action taken becomes public knowledge, and petitions to re-instate banned members have worked. Personally, I think that any bannings should be up to a public poll, but leave probation in the hands of the mods.

Why would a moderator delete them? At best just ingnore them instead of lighting the fire that comes with deletion.

There was a misunderstanding over Toven and that was lifted

Ah, glad to hear it.

I still have nightmares of that horrible place :csad:

And that is why most posters respect you. In a way, its not what a mod is saying, but how they say it that matters.
