I listened to Joyland not too long ago. Really loved the story and the guy reading it fit the narrator perfectly. Other short novels I'd recommend for King would be The Long Walk and The Running Man and of course The Gunslinger.

The Girl who Loved Tom Gordon is another one of his short novels that's supposed to be good.

^^ I loved it. It was one of favorites. Short and sweet, uncluttered. :)

Thanks for the suggestions I just finished Joyland today and thought it was quite a nice story, thought it would be more mystery but was quite glad that it wasn't.

Will listen to Cell next as I've already read the first 1-2 chapters.

List of Short Stories Set

Looks like the list of short stories that will be in the upcoming collection has been set…but not yet released. Here is the confirmation from the moderator on King’s official board:

The list has already been set but I can't reveal yet which ones made the cut.

And on a question about if it would just contain stories or also poems and essays the answer was:

Yes, but not anything I can share publicly yet, or long story short

I read Carrie for the first time and finished it the other day, probably my favorite King novel after It, (though I've only read 4 of his novels so far). Started Doctor Sleep today.

I finished the Dark Tower series two months ago. I really love it! The end is like:wow:
Roland doing the same journey over and over, its really disturbing

I am currenly reading 11/22/63 or as it is in Holland called 22/11/63:woot:. I'am in the middle and I'am really liking it. Did you guys like it? Please no spoilers, or at least in spolier tags.

yeah but he finally remembered to hang onto the Horn of Eld this time. So he's learning. Things will work out for him eventually.

Agreed. Doctor Sleep is aces. It has a lot of heart.

It really does. I can't even call it a horror story. It's a thriller for sure, but the focus on Dan and things going on around him, the people involved - it's all moving.

It was such a great story and definitely one of King's best.

The part that got me was
Jack's ghost saving Dan and him reflecting on the good times he had with his dad as a boy, that despite everything that happened, he was a good dad to him and that's what Dan has been trying to ignore to himself

Yes but eventually could be a reaaaallly long time. About 11/22/1963: I'am loving the way king is portraying the 50's and 60's and the way people lived back then. Its awesome.

Is it best to read The Shinning before Doctor Sleep?

King makes a note at the start to come into Doctor Sleep, reading the The Shining first and not the be thinking of the film.

But I don't think it's dead necessary to read the book. It will help you know about certain elements in DS, but if you've seen the film, you'll know what they mean already.

And having not read The Shining book, I was more surprised about what you find out later on. If I had read it, my mind would've probably clicked onto something, which probably would've lessened the experience and surprise that happens later on.

I absolutely loved it. It's one of my favorite King books to this date. It was just so bittersweet.

I'm split on which one to listen to first

Trying to listen to Cell but not sure if the reader or the book itself but it's just not drawing me in.

My friend hated the Cell but I thought it was okay. I am biased, I haven't read a King book I didn't like. :)
