The Stephen King Thread - Part 1

Not really but it's also a bit excessive to ride someone for not doing so over a nearly 4 year old book.

Sure, if it was just a random statement. But he was directly quoting and responding to someone who clearly hasn't read it yet.

oh well, whoo whoo whoo here come the thread police. Bottom line be cautious on the internet and expect spoilers everywhere. Even though that particular one isn't much of a spoiler anyway.

Finally someone rational enters the thread. Thanks Whiskey Tango.

I think you get kickbacks from the spoiler trolls.

I've been reminded of how much I love The Talisman. A great blend of fantasy and a road trip.

I used to like Stephen King. I just find myself unable to get into his newer work. Tried to read "Duma Key" and "Under the Dome". Gave up on both after 50 pages.

"The Long Walk" is still the best thing he has ever written. Or was ist Bachmann? Or...was it Stark?

I can't get into most of his new stuff either, though Wind in the Keyhole is pretty good.

I don't think he'll ever get better than Bachman, the early Dark Tower multiverse stuff (Eyes of the Dragon, Gunslinger, Talisman, etc), and the early collections and first few novels.

Settle down, chief. No need to get all snippy.

A Face in the Crowd
A New Story Coming August 21, 2012

http://www.liljas-library.com/img/other/afaceinthecrowd.jpgScribner and Simon & Schuster Audio have announced a chilling new story titled A Face in The Crowd. Set for release on August 21st, the original ebook marks the second baseball-themed collaboration between Stephen and Stewart O'Nan. (Faithful)

Dean Evers, an elderly widower, sits in front of the television with nothing better to do than waste his leftover evenings watching baseball. It’s Rays/Mariners, and David Price is breezing through the line-up. Suddenly, in a seat a few rows up beyond the batter, Evers sees the face of someone from decades past, someone who shouldn’t be at the ballgame, shouldn’t be on the planet. And so begins a parade of people from Evers’s past, all of them occupying that seat behind home plate. Until one day Dean Evers sees someone even eerier...

A Face in the Crowd will be available on Kindle, Nook, eReader, iBooks, Android Play and more. The audiobook read by Craig Wasson will be available in both Mp3 and CD Mp3 formats from Amazon, iTunes and more.

Under the Dome is a pretty good novel. I hated Big Jim Rennie , the main antagonist , so much. I couldn't wait till his death scene.

I am looking forward to read it. My father in law read it and was actually telling me the whole story. But it is still exciting :yay:

I've been a fan of Stephen King for many years. I like most of his novels, buy my favorites are his short fiction collections like Skeleton Crew and Night Shift.

"The Woman in the Room" and "The Last Rung on the Ladder" from Night Shift and "The Reach" from Skeleton Crew may still be the best things he's ever published.

You know, I think it would be great someone made an anthology film based on some of King's short stories.

You know, I think it would be great someone made an anthology film based on some of King's short stories.

Earlier this year we reported on Mark (The Night Flier) Pavia's new anthology film based on several Stephen King tales, and now we know which stories are being included as well as what the film will be titled. Read on for the details.
The Fire Wire confirms that the film will be named Stephen King's The Reaper's Image after one of the stories (The Reaper's Image) and along with that tale will include Mile 81, N., and The Monkey. Two were chosen by Pavia with King himself picking the other two. Descriptions of all four follow below:
The Reaper’s Image:
This story was first published in Startling Mystery Stories in 1969 and collected in Skeleton Crew in 1985. The story is about an antique mirror haunted by the visage of the Grim Reaper, who appears to those who gaze into it. This was King’s second professional sale and commercially published story.
Mile 81:
A novella by Stephen King, released exclusively as an e-book on September 1, 2011. With the heart of Stand By Me and the genius horror of Christine, Mile 81 is the chilling story of an insatiable car and a heroic kid whose worlds collide at an abandoned rest stop on the Maine Turnpike.
N.:
The story of a psychiatrist who falls victim to the same deadly obsession as his patient — an obsession that just might save the world! N. was published in King’s collection Just After Sunset in 2008. In March 2010 Marvel Comics published the first issue of a comic book adaptation of N., a four-issue limited series.
The Monkey:
A short story first published in Gallery magazine in 1980 in the form of a small removable booklet. It was significantly revised and published in King’s collection Skeleton Crew in 1985. The story centers on a cymbal-banging monkey toy that is possessed by an evil spirit. Every time the monkey claps its little cymbals together, a nearby living thing dies. The monkey is found in a family’s attic in an old toy chest by two young brothers, unknowing that their father had been tormented by the monkey years ago, when it worked its lethal enchantment on his family and friends.
Stay tuned to Mark Pavia's Facebook page for updates.

Very interesting! Thanks for sharing. I'll be following this for sure.

I'm about half way through the first Dark Tower book, The Gunslinger. About time I read this series! So far I'm finding the flashbacks drag a little but I'm enjoying it so far.

I have not read The Dark Tower series or The Colorado Kid (yet), but in the interest of finding my way into this thread, I will list my top five King books:
1. 'Salem's Lot
2. The Green Mile
3. Pet Sematary
4. Christine
5. Bag of Bones

I know this thread technically is for books and music, but I will also list (at no extra charge) the Stephen King books or stories which, in my opinion, have been adapted the best to movies or mini series:
1. The Green Mile
2. The Shawshank Redemption
3. The Mist
4. Salem's Lot
5. The Shining & Christine (Tie)

Batman and Robin have an Altercation: new story by King

Posted: August 21, 2012, 09:19:27
More and more info about Batman and Robin have an Altercation is now popping up. Nothing on the official site though and why that is I have no idea. Anyhow, from what I have heard the story, yes, it is fiction, is about a man with Alzheimer's, his adult son, and an unexpected event on the highway. The story is quite short, 4 pages and it’s King writing in a more "realistic" vein. Quite poignant at times, with an end that's disturbing, amusing, and unexpected all at once.

Description of Batman and Robin have an altercation

Here is a description of Batman and Robin have an altercation and if you are a subscriber (which I'm not :-( ) you can read it online here.

Sanderson sees his father twice a week. On Wednesday evenings, after he closes the jewelry store his parents opened long ago, he drives the three miles to Crackerjack Manor and sees Pop there, usually in the common room. In his “suite,” if Pop is having a bad day. On most Sundays, Sanderson takes him out to lunch. The facility where Pop is living out his final foggy years is actually called the Harvest Hills Special Care Unit, but to Sanderson, Crackerjack Manor seems more accurate.

Just finished 'Salems lot and Carrie. Loved them both. I'm thinking of starting either It, or Pet Sematary. Any opinions would be greatly appreciated

Just read Under the Dome. Amazing book. Damn this guy gets me every time. Love his writing style, I literally could think of nothing else til the book was done, and then was sad that it was over.
