Do they explain how they all survive in Stand Land??? I mean.. odds are at least one of them should die from Captain Trips, right? or are they not susceptible because they are from another world???

Maybe the virus wasn't active anymore. Didn't they arrive there a long time after the disaster occured? I can't remember, it's been a while since I read the book.

I think they arrived a year later, but still... one of the babies that was born right before they all met up with mother Abigail died from it.

I never particularly cared for his full on novels.
I find them too long winded.
However, I loved his short stories.
There are two maybe three books that compile them:
Monkey Shines and Night Shift come to mind.
Great stories!

OMG! I am watching the first season of True Blood & My god the dude that plays Bill would be a perfect Roland.

I just found out last night (I was looking for DT info) that filming for a Dark Tower movie will start in 2011. I am excited! More excited when I read that Bale might play Roland. However, I think Stephen Moyer (aka True Blood's Bill) would make a great Roland, too.

It's going, I got busy the past week or so and didn't have much time for DT3, I finally finished it Saturday and started DT4 today, I'm on page 43 now, I like Blaine.

I also enjoyed the reference to Trashcan Man.. even though I hate Trashcan Man

I am very new to The Dark Tower world having only read the first 2 GNs, (not written by King but Robin Furth and Peter David, with King's blessings) but I've grown very fond of it. For those who have read the GNs and novels, I was wondering if there are much differences between the two? It seems to me that the GNs are prequels to the novels?

Anyway, I am quite hungry for more TDT and eager to go on a journey with Roland and his ka-tet so I'm going to be ordering the boxed set soon (books 1-4).

What do you think of some of the new words King had created for this series? I find "kennit" to be quite annoying and "thankee, sai" to be quite... childlike but they don't disrupt my enjoyment of the story.

Yeah, I suppose you can call them prequels.I've only read the first GN, and that one was practically a retelling of flashback events that you'll read about in the fourth novel, Wizard & Glass. And the following GN's are kind of new stories set between those events and the time when we first meet Roland in the first DT-novel

Are Bert and Alain in the novels? I found Book 2 when I was at the library earlier but I decided not to borrow it since I want to start from the beginning. Would I be lost if I start at Book 2?

Book 2 starts more or less where book 1 ends, so I'd suggest to start with book 1 (even if there are a few pages summary of what has happened so far before the actual story starts in each of the books after book one)

The GNs are really well done and true to the style of the books, including the occassional odd word usage. However, they are being produced in the chronological order of Roland's actual life, not the order of events King gave us in the books. Most of what was in the GNs were given to us in flashbacks much later in the book series. I still find the GN's amazing and really well done. I heard they have 31 arcs or books planned and I hope they keep the same creative team throughout. I am enjoying the Dark Tower GNs much better than the ones they are doing for the Stand.

In between your Tower reads, check out Insomnia and Black House.

Kennit and thankee sai didn't bother me so much as the Do ya's and thankya's. Some of the other stuff rolls off the tongue nicely though, like can-toi, taheen, Ram Aballah, Can-Tah Aballah.

I absolutely LOVE The Dark Tower GNs! I thought they're very well done and hoped that when I pick up the novels, I'll love them as much, at least. The images are awesome! I saw Book 3 of the GN (Treachery) at the bookstore yesterday and might pick it up when I am done with the 4 novels (2 from the Anita Blake series and 2 from Odd Thomas series). Do you know how many GNs are out so far and have you read them all?

I've read many of King's books but not those two. I'll look for them once I am done reading the books that I have now. Thanks. If I don't like 'em, I'll find you and hit you with those books.

There is a key character introduced in The Gunslinger. I'd say start with The Gunslinger, anyway, because there's a rise in quality between that and the others, so to go to it after reading the rest, or even The Drawing of the Three (Book 2), would be....well, not unfortunate, but you get the point.

Trust me, it's worth the wait. You'll find out what happens with Cuthbert and Alain at the end of the first book if I remember correctly. It's expanded upon in the fourth book.

The books, yeah. I've only read Gunslinger Born, but I want to read the others, even though I know how this'll end.

Well, since I've only read Gunslinger Born, I can only compare it to the text it was directly based on. It's a faithful adaptation, yeah, and it's art is beautiful. But what it comes down to is that, in most cases, I preferred Wizard and Glass to the GN, simply because I have my own image of events that's different from the way the artist chose to depict them.

But Drawing of the Three is still my favorite out of all the books, comic or not, bar none.

I'm pretty sure there are only three GN's currently available with Treachery being the last. I get both the GNs and the singles so I'm a bit ahead of you. The singles are currently in the fourth arc, called Fall of Gilead, only two issues in so far. Like I said earlier, I'm just eating these up like candy and I hope nothing happens at Marvel where they have to change creative teams. I love the art and the style of this adapation so much!

BTW I love Anita Blake! I've read about 7 of those! And I've read two of the Odd Thomas books, love those as well! I bet we share a very common taste in reading material.
