The 'Streets of Gotham' Thread

Okay #1 was quite interesting. Firefly is getting the Paul Dini magical touch of awesomeness. He was making poison that made people burned and stuff, ouch. =O Oh and Damian spents time with Hush due to him looking like his old father and they were playing chest. Hush apparently has a television on his house and sees that its his time to get out of the jail and become the Bruce Wayne. >:] Manhunter was an interesting character but i wasn't really convinced yet since this was just the #1 gotta wait and see how she develops. :)

just read her solo series it's one of the best books DC had on the market before it was canned.

Great issue...just feel short...thanks to the Manhunter backup...man, how I hope there won't be any backup feature and we get the full length issue. A shame really

^ how does it feel short when the main story is still the standard 22 pages? I think some of you guys are too used to trade paperbacks and not the monthly serialized format.

Does anyone know how long Dini's run will last as I don't get unless his run is not gonna be a long one why they wouldn't let him carry on his story in Detective comics and let Batwoman get her own comic book.

because Batwoman is not a brand name and risking a new title on her could be a waste of money when you can just have her carry one of the franchise books (Detective Comics) for a while to get fleshed out better.

Oh shes not a new character? I think i'll take a quick look at DCWikia then. =) Thanks Cain!:brucebat:

Good point

The $3.99 price tag makes it feel short to me. :)

Isn't anybody going to complain about Damians costume looking different to Quitelys version?

Dinis magical touch on Firefly....have to agree. I also like Nguyens style more than I did in Detective for some reason...it's different

Art was great in this issue, I didn't care that Robin's costume was a little different. I've delt with Tim's and Dick's hairstyles and length changing panel-by-panel in some issues, so I can get over a few costume changes.

Story was fantastic, I really like that Dick doesn't seem to be taking a "softer" approach and doesn't seem to mind Damian at least acting pretty violent. [BLACKOUT]"Can I cut out her tounge Batman." "Maybe next time Robin."[/BLACKOUT]

It did seem short, but I really enjoyed the Manhunter backup in the issue as well.

I think overall this is going to be a good book. I had a darker and and quieter feel to it. I can see this replacing Detective as my favorite book especially considering Paul Dini is working on it.

As a side note, I'm hoping that they start moving Damian farther away from this book. The fact that he is in Batman and Robin is a given, but he doens't need to be in every batbook. I want to see Dick solo as Batman.

I really enjoyed the issue, however it did feel like Dick Grayson's personality was the same as Bruce's this issue. I hope Dini can find the right voice for Grayson soon.

The Manhunter back up was awesome. It's great to see Kate back. I enjoyed her series up to pretty much the end, when the supporting cast was getting a little nutty (and it was pretty much a showcase book for guests to try and boost sales). I'm glad a lot of that stuff has been stripped away and we're back to just Kate kicking butt.

If you feel that way you could always just wait for the trade :yay:

unlike Marvel it's great that DC at least gives you an extra bang for your buck when they hike up books by an extra buck. I was furious that manhunter got canned that was one of my favorite books so I get the further adventures of Kate even if it's not in a proper full issue. Works for me and I still get to pay $2.99 for the majority of everything else I read. So I don't mind paying the extra buck in this case.

Though I could see how this could irritate those who don't care beyond Batman. Like in the case of Booster Gold though since I never cared for the new Blue Beetle comic it is annoying to pay the extra buck but that books is far too entertaining and well written for me to just drop it now.

I was very suprised at this title. I liked it, so Ill be picking this one up monthly.

I'd wish they would let Damian take over the Robin series. Some solo adventures would probably be intriging and even present some character growth.

It worked for Tim, after all.

Except the problem with Damian is that hes a murderer who _needs_ suirveilence for years now until Richard would ever allow him to go soloventure anywhere.

Yeah Damian is too much of a loose cannon.

Did you guys just love how Damian actually visits Hush for the simple fact he resembles his father by looks? I gotta say its an awesome psychological touch by Dini. :)

I really enjoyed this issue as well, even the Manhunter backup story. I can't wait for more, the only problem I had with this was that Robin-Damian resembled Robin-Tim Drake way too much for me, otherwise it was a great issue. I loved how, as big of a b**** Damian can be fled from Elliot's cell immediately to help the victims of Firefly. It showed a great amount of maturity that I've been waiting to see.

Dick might have done what Bruce did when Jason took over as Robin and purposefully make the new Robin look like the old Robin so that people wouldn't notice the change.

That makes a lot of sense actually. I guess I was just used to the Quitely Robin-Damian with the buzzed short hair.

I loved how he yanked Harley off the street. My favorite part for sure.

I'm not so sure about the art yet, but the story is neat. I do agree it might be cool to see Batman get some alone time.

it seems like everyone draws the Dick Grayson Batman different but Dustin is drawing the same Batman he used to draw. Couldnt he at least have changed it up a little?

Finally got around to reading the first issue today and I love it. Almost all the bat books are pretty much top notch.

I sadly agree, but mostly I just want to see Dick drawn a little slimmer in the suit which better recognizes his high flying fighting style.

I think the point is that he's just drawing "Batman", the legend way he is and always was, much like Dini is writing him like Bruce Wayne as well. To outsiders such as citizens, villains and police it shouldn't be immediately perceivable that someone else is in the costume.
