When we were first shown the Superman costume, while enjoying the trunks return very much, I had some mixed feelings.
Unlike many people, I had no problem with the slightly baggy look; on the contrary, I'm not a fan of superheroes in armor or who look like bodypainters. What bothered me were the MCU-style lines... but at the same time, with the rest of the suit, its form and materials, the whole thing reminded me a bit of old-school sci-fi uniforms, and that's something I quite like.
After watching the movie, I have to admit that the lines are fairly easy to forget. And what's left is a very sleek costume that, in action, is frankly almost identical to the iconic look of the comic book.
So I don't really have any wishes for changes to the costume.
But out of curiosity
(as usual), I tried a little experiment that incorporates some of the most frequently requested modifications :
Here we have :
- A removal of the collar to open up the neckline.
- A removal of certain lines on the suit. I didn't remove everything because I think some of them help to
dynamize the silhouette.
- A shortening of the cape.
- An enlarged chest logo
(I admit that I naturally tend to imagine it bigger than it was in the movie).
- A switch to a round belt buckle
(just because it looks even more retro and I like it)
